Nick Moran (Scabior) has commented on the Snatcher scenes in “Deathly Hallows”, saying that they got so intense that some parts had to be cut:

“The scenes I did were really, really dark, really, really dark, but
when I went to see them they cut some of the worst bits out, and I was
talking to producer David Heyman, saying, ‘Oh no, why’s that gone?’ He
said, apparently it was like watching Saw,” Nick told Absolute Radio DJ
Christian O’Connell.

Moran also spoke briefly about the efforts taken towards keeping the script secret:

“I
can’t really give too much away – it’s hilarious, because your script
has a watermark in it,” he recalled.

“It says a number, which is on every page, so that if you lose it, everyone knows it was you. So it’s all top secret.”

Avatar Imageazaadpotter says: Great. Why did they have to cut them? They could have made it less dark thenAvatar ImagePygmyPuffPia says: Oh no, cutting scenes is never good :(Avatar ImageNess95 says: but i hope they add them in the dvd for deleated scenes, i do not care wether it is horrible or wether it is not, but in the book it was dark, too, and when they think, we are too weak to watch it, they are wrong. and beside i#ve already watched saw and i'm 15!!!!! ;(Avatar ImageGryffindor_Girl_xx says: I wanna see the dark scenes!!! If they cutted the mudblood-carved-in-Hermione's-forearm bit I will make sure they regret it. And I like dark stuff!!! x( man, these people ...Avatar ImageLonewolf_ says: I don't like that they cut it, I don't like it at all :(Avatar ImageNot Slytherin says: Wow - it must have been pretty intense. Scary.Avatar Imagehallowman says: uh no im sure they didnt cut anything after the test screeningAvatar Imagejaiboi2 says: DEATHLY HALLOWS TRAILER TO DEBUT ON WEDNESDAY THE 22ND OF SEPTEMBER, JUST FOUND OUT ON MUGGLENET CANT WAIT FOR THAT ONE, I HOPE THERES LOADS OF STUFF IN IT. THE TRAILER IS JUST OVER 2 MINUTES LONG BUT A LITTLE SHORTER THAN THE TRAILER WE GOT BACK IN JUNE,Avatar ImageNess95 says: let's contact these people and say what we are thinking.... this really upsets me..... VERDAMMTAvatar Imagekatteven says: I don't hope they cut off to must, even if I don't like dark stuff. I don't like it in my real life or in movies (smiles), but it's a importance part of these stories, so ... But oh november come on, come now!Avatar ImagexxIBelieveInNarglesxx says: aah,why cutting scenes??:( i guess they're making sure it stays pg Avatar Imageblackhair says: I knew they would cut every dark scenes i the movie i mean whats the point of making the movie the movie is supposed to be dark. If u have read the book u would know that.Avatar Imagewhyalltheglitter says: Dang! I would have loved to see them anyway! Now, the question is, what scenes did they cut? I have a couple ideas.... Too bad, though. I would have wanted to see them in the movie! Hopefully they're in the deleted scenes...Avatar ImageBeksey_S says: i hope they put all cutted scenes and part scenes on the DVD! i would hate to think i missed anything! even if it is too dark for the younger fans!Avatar ImagePWilly says: Just a thought...it's possible that the interpretation of the scenes from the book were a bit too much for the audience and that the producers and directors felt it brought a different feel to the overall tone. I know we all envision certain scenes when we read the books, but if they've taken them too far (into the "Saw" and horror/gore genre), then they may have thought that cutting them was appropriate. I'm sure scenes are cut in all types of movies, it just doesn't get press the way certain movies do. If it makes it to the DVD, that's cool. If it doesn't, there must have been a reason for it.Avatar ImageLeper says: I can only hope that they cut for the better.Avatar Imageeccentricalice says: I think if the really gory stuff got in the way of the story and how it was spposed to come across, it's fine to cut. Just stick it in the deleted scenes.Avatar Imageweasleywannabe1997 says: "Dark" does not need to be graphic. I appreciate any gore or gratuitous violence being deleted. People do (for better or worse) bring kids to these movies. Likely the cuts were for ratings purposes. And IMHO "Saw" appears pornographic (I would never attend or pay to see such a movie.) That is just my opinion. Avatar Imagehallowman says: this was obviously b4 the test screening as thers no mention of this there we will get the smae movie that wa s test screened Avatar Imagedaldula says: dark or not we want to see them!Avatar ImageTraceymmm says: i hope they put all the deleted footage on the dvd! this sounds amazing!Avatar Imagemoglet says: I hope you all realise that the film makers have to get the WB seal of approval too, so some of the approach to these things will, I'm sure, have that in mind. If it's too gory it will not make the kind of certificate that will ensure the biggest audience possible, none of the makers would want it given a 15 certificate for instance. I think that they will be able to convey the horror of what is going on without being incredibly gory, it is possible to do that and sometimes it's even more effective, our imaginations can easily do the rest, I can't watch gory films, but I've seen films which can be very unsettling and even outright scary by being much more subtly threatening.Avatar Imageroller says: I hope the put the dark stuff on the DVD! Or I will be so very bumed OUT! Sorry about some of my spelling! Cheers allAvatar Imagehallowman says: this was obviously done b4 the test screeng cuz theres no mentiong of it in any of the reportsAvatar Imagehedwigrulz says: NOOOOOOOOOOO! The dark scenes are like THE BEST...Avatar ImagePhlegm De La Coeur says: I'm okay with them cutting the dark scenes, as long as they can include the cut scenes on the dvd, especially since we now know that some bloody scenes have been cut. i can understand cutting scenes that don't help to move the story forward, so maybe they were just indulgent bloody scenes that didn't really help move the story forward? it would be awesome if they release an un-cut version of DH that was like seven hours long....Avatar ImagePetra says: But we want scenes like that... it should be dark and scary... They better put this on DVD...Avatar ImageBookworm_Weasley says: As much as we would all love to see the darker scenes left in, we have to remember that these films are intended to be seen by people of all ages. Imagine how many parents would complain if they took their young child to see the film and they came out scared because some of the scenes were a bit graphic. We can only hope they include the scenes on the dvd.Avatar ImageSnapesRose says: Its supposed to be dark, its going to be gruesome, the book was. I don't see any reason to cut anything, considering its already made into 2 movies. I only HOPE for good Snape scenes, at least some good promo pics of him.Avatar Imagehallowman says: what am i chop liver THESE SCENES WE ARLEADY CUT THERE IS NO MENTION OF THEM IN THE TEST SCREENING REPORTS Avatar ImageCatherine says: uh-oh....cutting, i dont like hearing about cutting! they better have a brick-load of deleted scenes on the dvd!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! the scripts w/ the water marks are hilarious though!Avatar Imagedobby_rocks says: Hopefully what was cut will be in deleted or extended scenes better yet maybe have a directors cut where its included in a version of the movie. Avatar Imagemollywobbles23 says: I'm not worried. *shrugs* If they're too intense for this kind of movie, then they're too intense. They didn't say they cut the Snatcher scene completely, just parts of it. I think people are overreacting, tbh.Avatar Imagehallowman says: are people prusposly ignroing me? there was notlhing like it in the test screening anyway there was notlhing like it in the test watching saw then i can see why they got cut cause warner bros doesnt want the last two films to be rated R and by having them be to dark and explicit they would be. while i have no problem having them rated R since deathly hallows is the darkest book yet and not exactly kids reading, they do want their target audience to be able to see them and parents would protest and boycott if these got an R rating so the strongest they wanna go is a hard PG-13 bordering on R but defenatly not an R rating. so hopefully on the ultimate editions of DH 1 and 2 itll be the full unrated directors cut. Avatar Imagehallowman says: ima talk slow so everyone understands these scenes were cut along time ago there is nothing of that description in any of the test screening reports Avatar Imagemoglet says: @hallowman, I've often had the impression that people don't read all the comments before posting.Avatar Imagetrumpetgirly says: wait a minute.... @Gryffindor_Girl_xx {ROAR!!!}... what do you mean they cut the word mudblood into herminone's forarm??? I don't remember that in the book and I've read it 5 times...Avatar ImageMJBDE15 says: they did the water mark thing with Sex and the City 2 also. i think they should have kept it the way it was filmed in the first place. HP7 is SUPPOSED to be dark.....Avatar Imagemuggle..andproudofit says: scene cutting not good, makeing it less " Saw " like ...okay ,i guessAvatar Imagemystiqueminx says: @trumpetgirly[ROAR]-- it is not there in the book,,,it is just another unnecessary change they have made in the film...... i am not very happy with that, i prefer it the way in the book...Avatar ImageEeyore says: I was wondering the same thing about the mudblood thing and Hermione's arm. Huh? Since that wasn't in the book, I do hope it has been cut out of the movie. As for the snatcher scenes, they don't need to be gory, and if that's what's been cut out, then I'm happy. I don't like or watch movies like Saw and I would hate for the last two HP movies to turn into that genre. Hitchcock suspense-type movies, however, are a good thing and that kind of darkness I do like. It also usually stays within the PG13 rating, which as others have pointed out will be what WB wants.Avatar ImageSlyBones says: I hope the cut out stuff will be on the DVDs. I really want to see them! >_<Avatar ImageHermione Elizabeth says: I think the darker, then the more realistic it is. I hope they didn't cut too much of it. If it does, then as long as they put it on the DVD as extras, then I'm cool.Avatar ImageGraymayne says: It wouldn't make sense to have a minor character having such a high profile in the film. Fenrir Greyback was Jo's nasty character among the Death Eaters. It sounds as though someone got carried away by the all-action war-themed final film instead of sticking to the book. Jo gave us just enough pain and sorrow through the death and suffering of characters we held dear without over emphasizing the mayhem involved in a war scenario in detail.Avatar ImageCamWaller says: If those scenes are anything like Saw... I might just poop myself. (In a good way) It sucks that they cut them out though...Avatar ImageCamWaller says: If those scenes are anything like Saw... I might just poop myself. (In a good way) It sucks that they cut them out though...Avatar Imageharrypotterfreak101 says: If it's like Saw then it fits the theme perfectly! I mean if they had to delete those parts what's the point?!Avatar Imagebeckett19 says: Before everyone freaks out a whole lot more...They cut PARTS not whole scenes. They probably did takes and parts that they had in previous cuts (as in when they make films they will put together multiple sequences of the same scenes to show the director/producers/actors and then change them a lot over time) and what is most likely what happened was the actor saw the dailies (the rough footage of the day's takes) and then saw the sequence put together (and it was probably the umpteenth time it was edited together) and felt it was really edited down. And was all "whoa". But he said they cut bits out. Not all of it. And if they cut bits out because it was becoming to "Saw" like then there's a good reason. You can't have creepy slasher/hostel/torture film sequences in films that are for the most part tailored towards families and tweens. So before you flip out over three sentences lets all breathe and wait till the film comes out. Avatar Imageharrypotter1991 says: I hope that they didn't cut too much off the Bellatrix/Hermione torture scene in Malfoy Manor!Avatar Imagevicki_the_house_elf says: I love the fact that they filmed all the dark stuff, i think thats the best way to do it, go as far as you can while filming and then when you come to edit it together, you can either increase or decrease the dark stuff. And the reports from the test screening said the film was already very very dark, so THERES NO NEED TO PANIC!Avatar Imagebeckett19 says: @hallowman - you keep posting crap like that and people will fully and completely ignore you. And report you for abusing the comment section. Stop being a 12 year old. And if you are a 12 year old, grow up a little. Not everyone reads through 50 plus comments before putting in their two cents. Avatar ImageMJBDE15 says: I think "hallowman" is trying to tell us something, but I just can't figure out what it is... (HEAVY SARCASM)Avatar Imagesiriuslover15 says: why must they cut? why?Avatar ImageSusmita singh says: Oh no! Why they cut the scene. Its not fair:(Avatar ImageFleur-de- Lily says: Great. Why did they have to cut them? They could have made it less dark then.Avatar ImageFleur-de- Lily says: But cutting scenes is never good, what I meant is using fake blood for the seen!Avatar Imageksddancer says: I wonder how bad the scenes were?Avatar Imagechuzzle says: Can't wait!!!!! :DAvatar ImageTheGleek77 says: Awe really you have to cut scenes? Just make them less dark I hope they put them on deleted scenes then!Avatar Imagehallowman says: well sorry if i tihnk its retarded to bitch bout scenes we already knew werent in there b/c we already know everything that is in the film from the test screeningAvatar Imagesnunkiebrian says: oh wow will they be in deleted scenes? lets hope so. Thats pretty cool about the scripts having watermarks and stuff. heheAvatar Imageserenalupinx says: Even in the Muggle world deleting scenes is never a good sign..Avatar ImageGiant Squid says: Oh, I hope the dark scenes weren't that good! And if they were, I hope they have them on the DVD when it comes out!Avatar ImageWeenyOwl says: I have to disagree with the majority here. It's been decades since I had to worry about being too young to get into certain categories of movies, but I still would never willingly sit through a slasher film, even if the theater paid me and not vice versa. And although DH is certainly a dark book, I don't see how the story would be 'improved' by adding extra scenes unspecified by the author that make the atrocities of the Death Eathers more explicitly gruesome. I think that scenes like Snape's death will be hard enough to watch. Turning DH into a gratuitous gorefest would not make it better. However, I can understand the filmmakers perhaps wanting to put the Death Eater actors through certain actions as a way of getting more deeply into their awful characters. They may have intended those just as Stanislavsky Method exercises, but shot them anyway 'just in case' something came out usable. To those who argue that anything that makes the story darker would be an improvement, consider this: JKR very carefully avoided describing any actions of the Death Eaters that would cross the line into rape and sexual sadism. The only such reference in the whole series is the behavior of the Muggle boys who attacked Ariana, and it is very oblique; the details of what is presumably a gang-rape are left entirely to our imaginations. Yet many of those of us for whom the HP saga seems very real must have wondered what else the DEs were up to besides killing and maiming and extorting and intimidating. When one hears about totally warped, awful people in the real world, like that Austrian guy who kept his daughter captive in a secret room all those years, it's hard to imagine that the DEs were not capable of as bad behavior as any such Muggle. Surely their allegiance to Voldemort did not include monkish vows of chastity - although one might reasonably deduce that LV himself had left so much of his humanity behind that he no longer had a libido as such, having replaced it with an exaggerated lust for power and immortality. (If so, that makes Bellatrix's slavish devotion to him all the creepier, in a way - maybe it's her frustrated desire that inspires her pathological cruelty? You know, like the old joke about the masochist who begs, 'Beat me! Beat me!' and the sadist who replies, "Nooooo...') We are free to speculate all we like about the darkest corners of the Death Eater subculture, but who would argue that the movies would be improved by adding these elements that JKR made a point of not mentioning? Sure, it would make them darker; but gore, guts and kinkiness are not what this tale is about, and adding them except where absolutely necessary to the narrative would alienate huge segments of potential viewers, to no real purpose.Avatar ImageL. Ravenclaw says: i like to see HP movies go a bit darker than useally becouse in the books you see that it is getting darker. So i think it´s pitty that they cut the worst dark parts out..., unless it was tooo dark so my little sis can´t watch it ;)Avatar ImageHagrid 713 says: I hate the idea of cutting scenes but if it was just gratuitous horror then I'd rather they cut them - it's dark enoughAvatar Imagejoeys_mommy says: I am Personally Glad that they cut out any Saw-like scenes. I have never seen those movies and do not intend to since I have an extreme fear of Horror movies & Books. I don't mind how dark the film books have been because it hasn't gone past my Level of being frightened. Regarding WeenyOwl- I completely and totally agree with your post. I think there was a reason JK avoided gettign too explicit with the DE actions.Avatar ImageValeria-Johanna says: I agree with WeenyOwl and joeys_mommy. I think the films should keep to the same level of horror as the books, which will be quite dark in any case when it's shown on the big screen. I too wouldn't dream of going to a Saw-type film.Avatar Image2tal says: How many bits in DH were about snatchers? I didn't think there were but a couple anyway ... And, remember that these folks are making a film and - just occasionally - they depart from the book, just a teensy bit!;DAvatar ImageNumeroUnoFan says: i loved saw and snatchers sound like jigsaw brutal so that would have been perfect. THEY BETTER BE ON THE BLURAYAvatar ImageValeria-Johanna says: I think most of the Snatchers were petty thugs and bullies who were being used by the Death Eaters. Most of their work was grabbing children who were on the run from school. Avatar Imageblackhair says: Granted the scenes were a bit violent and scary but don't they realize that the true followers of book and the audience have grown with the series too it has taken 10 years for the series to complete if at average a boy at 9 has started with the series would be 17/18/19+ so don't they think he is mature enough to watch the capture scene uncutAvatar Imagebeckett19 says: Having worked in the industry, its just the way it works. They cut "some of the worse parts out" because it most likely doesn't fit with the rest of the film. I'm sure the film is dark enough but to have a scene that is really beyond and slasher film like, it's too much and jarring if it doesn't stay with the rest of the film's feeling. Again though they said "parts" not entire scenes. They can't cut the snatchers all together since that's how they get to Malfoy Mannor...however they can cut what they feel is necessary if it's just too much. Remember Greyback is in that scene and if it went to far with him, they it needs to be cut. Also, @hallowman they are called test screenings for a reason. Not final cut screenings, not premieres, but test screenings. They use those to test audience reactions to specific parts of the film that they aren't quite sure about and then go and make changes based on the audience reactions. And given that it's September, I can pretty much 99% guarantee that they are still making changes. They will be making changes into November until it is literately impossible for them to do any more because they have to ship out the film. Its how the industry works. Constant changes, constant viewings and several different ways to portray a single scene. Avatar ImagePolka Square says: ): Avatar ImageSindi says: oh no! hopefully they put them into an extended edition or something ...Avatar ImageMeggie the Goose says: Oh, wow, I'm getting more excited by the minute! Intense snatcher scenes!
