Recent JKR Edinburgh House Purchase Reports False
January 21, 2010, 12:45 PM
Over the past few days, reports have been circulating across various news outlets regarding Harry Potter author J. K. Rowling purchasing an Edinburgh house after viewing only two rooms, and after offering the current owners a sum of money to vacate in time for a Christmas party. Leaky has received word today directly from legal representatives of J. K. Rowling confirming these allegations to be FALSE.
The press release reads:
There have been a number of false reports published today concerning a recent property purchase by Harry Potter author JK Rowling. Usually Ms Rowling chooses not comment in any detail on allegations concerning private, family and home life.
Despite Ms Rowling’s stance on private matters, she feels that she has little choice but to comment on the false allegations circulating today in an attempt to quash them before they are spread any further. Therefore, allegations that Ms Rowling offered £300,000 on top of the purchase price in order for the seller to vacate the property within two weeks so that she could hold a Christmas Party, and, that Ms Rowling viewed only 2 rooms in the property before deciding to purchase it are all absolutely false.
Ms Rowling has asked her lawyers to write to the publishers concerned.
what kind a person makes something like this up? its really dumb.
Karen Carpenter sang “I can take all the badness the world has to give but I won’t last a day without you”. "You being first of all you husband, children, best friends and then your many Harry Potter admirers. You have so many of us on your side that these rumors even if they were true are so minute that it’s not worth even a sigh. If it were true we wouldn’t care. It’s your money to spend as you please. I think you should grab a funny movie with you family, and forget about rumors.
haha they shall rue the day when the PO the best writer of all time :D
You have to wonder why anyone wants to make up this sort of stuff, I can only assume that they have rather unfulfilled lives.
You bought a new house or not, You still the #1 and Best Author for me.
People can be so ridiculous. I’m sure they’re just jealous of Jo’s success, and that makes them think it would be fun to spread lies about her to make her look power-hungry or something. It’s like, get over it!
And if she did want to buy a house and rush the transaction, who cares? It’s not wrong. (If somebody offered me 300,000 pounds over the selling price of my house, I’d be so outta there!!!)
That doesn’t seem like very juicy gossip.
shes the best 2 me, i dont care what house she buys and if she does.
I think it’s her choice, what to do with her money. And what ever will happen she will always be the person, who wrote this amazing Harry Potter books.
poor jo! People need to leave her alone, and who cares even if she had bought the house.
Lol, Christmas Party? Seriously?
…too many people who have time to lose…
all man way to many people have time to start roomers about people
oh thank god! ive been tired of reading and rereading head lines that diss Jo about doing this! and i knew them to be false, and left thousands (exageration)of scolding comments about leaving Jo alone! looks like my job here is done!
plus its a private matter if she buys a house or not. if she moved, she’d still be Jo and we’d still love her. people at magazine’s have to much time to kill and overactive imaginations (in a bad way—cuz Jo has a perfectly wonderful over active imagination!)
