Recent JKR Edinburgh House Purchase Reports False
January 21, 2010, 12:45 PM
Over the past few days, reports have been circulating across various news outlets regarding Harry Potter author J. K. Rowling purchasing an Edinburgh house after viewing only two rooms, and after offering the current owners a sum of money to vacate in time for a Christmas party. Leaky has received word today directly from legal representatives of J. K. Rowling confirming these allegations to be FALSE.
The press release reads:
There have been a number of false reports published today concerning a recent property purchase by Harry Potter author JK Rowling. Usually Ms Rowling chooses not comment in any detail on allegations concerning private, family and home life.
Despite Ms Rowling’s stance on private matters, she feels that she has little choice but to comment on the false allegations circulating today in an attempt to quash them before they are spread any further. Therefore, allegations that Ms Rowling offered £300,000 on top of the purchase price in order for the seller to vacate the property within two weeks so that she could hold a Christmas Party, and, that Ms Rowling viewed only 2 rooms in the property before deciding to purchase it are all absolutely false.
Ms Rowling has asked her lawyers to write to the publishers concerned.
Of course it’s false! Jo would never be that rude (to ask someone to move out quickly) or wasteful with money (regardless of how much she has or does not have.) She is a class act and what ever she does is her own business, these people have nothing better to do with their spare time than make up nonsense. They should try donating some of that time to a charity.
People that make up these rumors are obviously nasty, vicious, small people that are jealous of J.K. Rowling’s success. She worked incredibly hard for what she has created and ought to be allowed to enjoy the fruit of her labor without having defend herself from such petty nonsense.
People ought to respect Jo’s wishes and grant her some privacy, particularly in regard to her family and personal decisions. It really isn’t anyone’s business what she pays for a new home. Frankly, I couldn’t care less about that sort of thing. I’d much rather hear news about the charities she is promoting or any other projects she is working on!
Wow…if the papers are reporting this it must be a slow news day. Not to sound mean, but come on, whether or not she purchases a new place or asks people to vacate soon isn’t newsworthy to me. I could be wrong, but that is my opinion.
Seriously, if this stupid rumor is what passes for news these days, well it’s no wonder circulation is down.
