3D Map of Wizarding World of Harry Potter in Thursday Issue of USA Today; Video Tutorial and Article Online (Updated)

Update:  We now have for you the USA Today map and video gallery version of the 'How-To' video available.

As readers will recall, USA Today will be including a 3D "augmented-reality" map of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter as part of their January 28th issue.  There is now a video online from the newspaper which shows how the 3D map is used and the different features included as part of this special feature.  Additionally, USA Today has published an article which speaks more to the developments at the park, as well as Universal Orlando Resort's aims for the attraction.  Relating that the Harry Potter attraction will be "taking the theme-park experience to the next level," Thierry Coup, Universal's vice president for creative development, goes on to say, "We're taking the most iconic and powerful moments of the stories in the books and putting it in an immersive environment."  The preview continues:
The centerpiece is Hogwarts castle, rising more than 150 feet and visible from beyond park boundaries. It houses Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey, a "dark ride" that uses robotic arms to move passengers in various ways as they pass through scenes from the movies, says Robert Niles of industry tracker Two other rides, Dragon Challenge, a twin high-speed roller coaster, and Flight of the Hippogriff, a tamer coaster, use the core of existing attractions that have been re-themed.
The majority of Harry's world consists of venues in which to eat, drink and shop.
But Universal Creative president Mark Woodbury assures that those outlets will be about more than mere consumption. Dining will be an "experience," and shopping will be "retail theater," he says.
At Ollivander's, for instance, a costumed "wandkeeper," with the aid of some questions and special effects, will help shoppers find which of the 10,000 wands in stock is destined for them.
"Everything is about immersing you into ... the stories of Harry Potter," Woodbury says. "It would be a real letdown to me if people just came and bought something."
That said, there will be plenty of Harry-themed merchandise to peruse, from Quidditch equipment to Spectrespecs. Ditto for distinctive food and drink. The fare at the Three Broomsticks and the Hog's Head pub will include the first J.K. Rowling-approved recipe for Butterbeer.

AAK! I just realized that I didn’t pick up my copy of the 3D Map in USA Today. I hope they have some left when I get off work tonight. :(

Will the map posted in Leaky’s Galleries also provide the same experience if it’s printed out and held up to the webcam? And what is the URL to get the download for the proper program to accomplish this. I am nowhere near any newstand that sells this paper.

I tried the map and it isn’t as user friendly as I hoped it would be. :( But it still is pretty cool when you actually get it to work!

The rides sound amazing! I’m not even going to try to rush to explore all the wonders of the park. I want to take my time and enjoy all the fantastic details. =)

I can’t hardly wait to see what kind of merchandise is going to be on sale! I am going to save up carefully between now and Spring so I can splurge on souvenirs. The total immersion in the HP world is going to be so much fun!

It’s so unfair !! I bought the newspaper yesterday (28 jan.). I especially went to the nearby city, because they don’t sell it in the village where I live, and it said the map will be included in NEXT Thursday’s newspaper ! So, I have to go again next week.
Just because I live in Europe instead of the US ? Hmmmph. So unfair.
And last week the European edition of the Daily Telegraph did not include the special DVD. I hate this ! :o(

And there’s nothing about the Wizarding World in any Dutch newspapers or magazines. I do hope there will be, when it opens, but that’s months away and I hope it will be something good. Not just a footnote that it has opened.
I can’t go to the US when it opens, but maybe I can be in the UK, so I can get my hands on some of the actual British newspapers, maybe even an American one.

There! My rant is over. I feel a bit better (a very tiny bit), now I’ve talked about it. Nobody in my environment would understand, but I know, you guys do. So, thanks for ‘listening’ to me (if you have :o) )
