I agree with Valeria-Johanna about the desk stampede scene – it made me laugh out loud. It would only chew up a couple of seconds of screentime, so there’s no excuse for them to leave it out of the film!
I also love, love, love all of McGonagall’s confrontations with Umbridge. She’s a great role model for a woman who does not suffer fools gladly – nor injustice of any sort. Wish I had her spine! And yet, stern as she may be, she also shows great compassion for those who suffer. In my book she’s one of JKR’s most wonderfully well-rounded, memorable characters. And how lucky that they got an actress as accomplished as Dame Maggie Smith to play her in the movies.
So here’s to you, Professor: a glass of gillywater, a box of ginger newts and a big thank-you for existing in my favorite alternative universe!
