Variety is reporting that the midnight box office results for “Deathly Hallows: Part 1″ are $24 million:

Warner Bros. kicked off what likely will be a boffo opening weekend for
“Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1,” launching the film at
3,700 midnight runs for a late-night take of $24 million.

Pic screened at a record-setting 238 domestic Imax screenings,
contributing $1.4 million, which surpassed the company’s previous $1
million midnight record holder “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse.”

Overall, “Hallows” fell short of catching “Eclipse’s” $30 million
late-night record, though that film benefited from a more rabid young
femme demo and a shorter runtime, as well as its less restrictive summer

Warner will screen “Hallows” this weekend at 4,125 U.S. locations.

Avatar ImageLeper says: AwesomeAvatar Imagehermy007 says: i really think that if it was during the summer, part 1 would have caught eclipse. and arent these stats just for the u.s? surely it did even better overseas? anyway, hp beats twilight anyway, no matter how much dough it makes. :DAvatar Imagegreenfire says: I am proud to say that every midnight show was sold out in the city of Boston...such a college town.Avatar Imagehermioneginnyluna says: OH MY GOSH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Just saw it. I cried and laughed so hard. I cannot wait to see Part 2!Avatar Imageabandonedboyjon says: Part II with IMAX 3-d will trump Twilight.Avatar ImagePotterParish says: Part 2 alone will be twilight...this is ONLY midnight... I See 400 million US dollars across the horizonAvatar Imagecrikeyhunter says: Just got back! Great movie. Pretty much stayed true to the book. My only criticism is there wasn't enough of the Harry Potter theme in the music....I thought they were going to correct that from the previous few movies...although the music was good...dark where it needed to be. Can't wait for Part 2!!! RIP Dobby..............Avatar Imagechuzzle says: It's an amazeing movie!Avatar ImageSindi says: I saw it in IMAX, it was packed! The shows were all sold out, lots of camping .. This is only midnight screenings, on a Thursday, in November... I think it is GREAT! and Twilight has nothing on Harry Potter, there is still so much more to come from this movie :D Avatar Imagemaimiaa says: a-mazing. A-MAZING movie !!Avatar ImageSohumdore says: I think the reason we lost was because its a school night. We'll do much better in July! Amazing movie I want to see it again!Avatar ImageJooooooolz says: great movie, seen it twice alreadyAvatar Imageblackhair says: Best in the series and will be No.i in HP series. Actors did really a good job, They lived upto the expectationAvatar Imagevoldemort07 says: its funny, I was certain the show would be sold out and bought my tickets really early, but the there were only about thirty of us in the theater.Avatar Image42fryguy says: Dobby. All I want in life is more of Dobby, but oh no he can't be there unless he is going to DIE in 5 seconds after he brightens my day.Avatar Imagefragilexstars says: It was fantastic! I agree with hermy007, if it was summer time or even Thanksgiving break during the midnight opening I think they would have pulled in more than Eclipse. Maybe the timing hurt a little with those numbers. The theater I was at, wasn't as packed as I thought it would have been. Never the less, the movie was amazing! The cast and crew did an amazing job! I can't wait until Part 2! :)Avatar ImageSlyBones says: Twilight can't compare to the HP series. There no competition there. HP slaughters Twilight. Our fandom is over a decade old and still going strong. I'd like to see were Twilight will be when they've gotten through their first decade. Avatar ImageSlyBones says: Oh and if you need proof of that check this out, USA Todays list of best-selling books of the last 15 years. #1 HP & SS. #4-9 was the rest of the HP series. Stephenie Meyer didn't make the list until #26. http://www.usatoday.com/life/books/news/2008-10-29-top-150-books_N.htm?loc=interstitialskipAvatar Imagejain says: to my knowledge there was no midnight showing in the uk. Or at least there wasn,t in Birmingham. I 'd have gone to go to one.Avatar Imagedevilskinn says: Well-done! Can't wait to see it :)Avatar ImageFilthyMudblood___ says: I've been twice already and the first one was sold out and the second one was nearly sold out. I'm so excited for Part Two!Avatar Imageacciohorcrux.hbp says: ABSOLUTELY PERFECT!!!!!!!!! :D :D.....I'm elated by the news!!!!!... ..........................." ' And now we wait for the finale....which will be one in History!!!' " ;) Avatar ImageSigourney1990 says: AMAZING :D I saw it last night and it really was fantastic, obviously it doesn't compare to the book but this film really was amazing.Avatar ImageTyqwando416 says: The Twilight comparison is irrelevant... the opening night numbers mean nothing. The last 2 movies of that franchise had bigger openings than HP, but neither made more money in the end. DH will be the same. It will again break the $300M mark like HBP and no Twilight movie can say that. And that's just the US take. DH is predicted to reach close to $1B worldwide...Avatar ImageIncarnadine Ibis says: it was supposed to be scheduled for 17 Nov in Egypt, it was a big blow when they delayed it, now i can't go until monday, i can hardly contain the excitement.Avatar Imagecrystal8es says: I am a newbie here and just wanna say Hi to everyone. I am Crystal from Louisiana, US. __________________ http://www.photoshop-garden.comAvatar ImageBlossom says: I am not surprised. It was such an awesome movie.Avatar ImageMaryMalfoy says: I've seen it twice, and both shows were almost sold out. I'm guessing these numbers are just for the US because when they count international ticket sales these numbers will be a lot higher, i'm guessing. Avatar Imagekimmybabii says: I think that is amazing to make that much just at the midnight showings, it doesn't include the over all showings does it? or include the rest of the world? wonder how much it will take in over the weekend. I can't wait to see it again and to see part 2 =DAvatar ImageGiant Squid says: I don't care how many people go to see Eclipse because I will always know that HARRY POTTER IS BETTER!Avatar Imagebeallgood01 says: We were at a midnight showing and the audience was largely under 18 and most said they were skipping school the next day. If it had been summer, there is no way we wouldn't have caught Twilight. The film came off the projector about 10 minutes before the end and we waited about 25 minutes to see the end. Manager gave everyone free passes to compensate for our time.Avatar Imagepigwey says: proud to say i helped make that happen!(:Avatar ImageSilvery Doe says: I don't think WB really expected a record breaking opening here. I really think they're banking on the final installment opening in the summer. I'm curious to see what will happen.Avatar Imagechanman says: How do you think someone who's not really a fan of the books would like the movie? Will it make sense to someone who hasn't read a single book?Avatar Imagejenbabe705 says: I feel like this film wasn't as heavily marketed as the others.. I agree that if it was a summer showing we would have beat Eclipse.Avatar ImageTheGleek77 says: Bloody Hell! Myoh my and I agreee if it hadn't been during the school year I'm sure it would have topped Eclipse!Avatar ImageCrucioImperioAvadaKedavra says: Amazing movie, went to the midnight showing :D just purely an Amazing movie :D Avatar Imageharrypotterfreak101 says: 24 Million with 3700 views! Thats fantastic! But why did Eclipse have to get in the way?!Avatar Imagedobbyis_free says: so glad i helped :)Avatar Imagebudgie says: I saw it, and am ready for part 2. I am glad to have seen Dobby, and found that part funny then sad. Bring kleenex.Avatar Imagerustyrulez2 says: Great movie! Absoultely amazing. I definitely intend on seeing it again and in IMAX!!Avatar Imagepolyjusposhun says: One thing I don't know if they are taking into account when calculating that total of Eclipse versus HP7 part 1 is that theaters were having a showing of all 3 Twilight movies and I think it cost $30 a pop for that (although they did give a $10 gift card for drinks and snacks). Some theaters were showing 3 HP movies, but it cost $20 and was not well advertised at all. I did not find out about it until a few days before and could not take off work to go. I personally think those movie numbers should be counted in tickets purchased rather than money made on tickets, as ticket prices vary depending on the area of the country you are in and by which type of show you see (Imax versus regular). I think that would be a more accurate picture of how popular a particular movie is. Loved the movie and will be going for repeating viewing next week. : ) Avatar Imageclpotter says: i loved it so much, it was so amazing. I really can't wait to see it again! Avatar ImageAirallia says: It was brilliant!!!!Avatar ImageAirallia says: yeah well i guess the timing was a little bit of a problem because I wouldn't have seen it if it hadn't been my long weekend off school.Avatar ImageRaytheforgottenWeasley says: I couldn't get there for the midnight show, but today I get to bolster the opening weekend numbersAvatar ImageMaryMalfoy says: DH Part 2 will do even better than this, I am sure. I knew so many people that wanted to go to the midnight show, but couldn't, because their parents didn't want them at the theatre at 12 o'clock at night. If it had been in the summer, they all would have been able to go. I was lucky that my parents are quite lenient, and let my skip school the next day. Avatar ImageProffesorGinevraJanePotter says: I'm a Twilight fan, and even I am ashamed that Harry Potter didn't beat Eclipse. The Harry Potter series is far better than the Twilight Saga. Part II will beat Twilight, since it will be in the summer, and the very end.Avatar ImageHermonie says: Pity I didn't make it at midnightAvatar ImageFresca says: Judging by the 7:30 pm show I attended, Deathly Hallows must have broken records in Canada! The place was sold out, and the people in line were all having a blast before the movie. I loved the film, and hope to see ti again soon.Avatar ImageFigment says: I am so glad I saw it at midnight. The movie was great and all the people there added to the atmosphere. I hope I get a chance to see it again soon.Avatar Imagemystiqueminx says: Let us wait for the worldwide gross,,that will beat twilight for sure..In my country,,twilight films dont make much money,,,it is only Harry Potter that is popular hereAvatar Imageazaadpotter says: I can bet my head that is DH1 was released in the summer twilight wouldn't stand a chance.
