Leaky's 2010 Year in Review: Part Three

Posted by: Mel
December 31, 2010, 09:10 PM

Here, now, is the third and final part of Leaky's 2010 Review of the year in Harry Potter news.  Parts one and two can be found below.  Enjoy!  ,

New previews of the "Deathly Hallows" film brought us to September, as did updates on the LEGO Harry Potter video game, new high res stills, and, you guessed it, even more photos from the film.  Hints at what were to come on the Oprah Winfrey show followed, along with the first TV spots for "Deathly Hallows: Part 1" and the first theatrical trailer.  A preview of Leaky's DH set report came soon after as new posters were released, featuring Harry, Ron, and Hermione, and the tagline: "Nowhere is Safe," The NYC premiere date, and the first of much about the Film Wizardry Book carried along the DH fever.  Handwritten Chamber of Secrets manuscripts went on display, while we got more stills from the DH film, including those of the Ministry, Dobby, and trailer screencaps.  It was then revealed that J. K. Rowling was to appear on the Oprah Winfrey Show, which was followed by the first images of the interview, quotes, and preview clips from the "Deathly Hallows: Part 1" film.  Finishing up the month came news of Darren Criss, from "A Very Potter Musical," being cast on "Glee," and, it goes without saying, quite a lot of new images from "Deathly Hallows: Part 1" were released.

October started as Oprah Winfrey brought out a side of Harry Potter author J. K. Rowling rarely seen during an hour long interview on the chat show.  Looks at a series of additional DH clips followed..  The end drew nearer for the Harry Potter films as Leaky released its full set report from the first part of the "Deathly Hallows" film.  New banners were released for the PG-13 film, along with the news that the first DH film would not be released in 3D.  WB then released a flood of images which showed Harry and the Snatchers, Luna, and Bellatrix.  The "Deathly Hallows" news continued with the release of the worldwide release dates and even more promo material for the film.  A series of LeakyCon announcements rolled out this month, including our wizard rock lineup and inclusion of the Potter Puppet Pals at the conference.  Emma Watson then gave us clues to a new scene added to the film, which got over eight different preview TV spots released this month. Jo Rowling then received the Hans Christian Andersen Literature Award as trailers for both the film and video game were released.  DH:1 tickets became available for pre-order, Dan Radcliffe voiced a character on "The Simpsons," and Kreacher was first seen as the month carried on.  The film news started to ramp up as the month closed out when word came of the film's running time, an adjustment to the MPAA rating, a track listing and preview of the soundtrack, as well as more TV spots and images.  Lastly, Leaky launched its newest feature: Leakypedia, our very own Harry Potter wiki.

News of the HPA's Deathly Hallows Campaign kicked off November, which saw even more exclusive clips from "Deathly Hallows: Part 1," reflections on the film series as it draws to a close, midnight showing sellouts across the country, and behind the scenes footage from filming.  DH Part 2 news was not far off, for we found out Alexandre Desplat would return to score the second half of the final film, Epilogue reshoots would take place over Christmas, and WB would open up tours of the Harry Potter sets in 2012.  At long last, it was time for the film to premiere in both London and New York City; Leaky was on the scene at both premieres.  LeakyCon news did not take a break this month, StarKid Potter ("A Very Potter Musical" will be performing live at our conference next summer in Orlando, Florida.  Fans also got together in New York City for the 4th Annual Quidditch World Cup as early reviews for the film started to roll in.  As the box office receipts started to roll in, the first part of the "Deathly Hallows" film took in $330 million worldwide its opening weekend.  To close out the month, Leaky updated its Wizarding World app and started a new Friday Fun feature.

Christmas cheer from Emma Watson brought us into December, along with USA Today profiles of the now adult Harry Potter actors, "For Your Consideration" ads, and "Tangled" bumped "Deathly Hallows: Part 1" out of the top box office spot.  The first photo of Emma Watson from her post-Potter project, "My Week With Marilyn," was released online, as well as a forty minute interview with producer David Heyman, who spoke about his work with the Potter films.  Casting news for "Deathly Hallows: Part 2" arrived with word that actress Kelly Macdonald would be portraying the Grey Lady, DH:1 was long listed for a Visual Effects Oscar, and a number of actors from the Harry Potter films received Golden Globe nominations.  Leaky was then excited to announce American Harry Potter editor Arthur Levine would be the Keynote speaker at LitDay for LeakyCon 2011.  As the month continued, additional "For Your Consideration" ads were released, as was information about the Epilogue reshoots which took place in London.  December closed out with Dan Radcliffe's appearance on "QI" and the release of PotterCast's interview with the team behind StarKid.

Meet you in 2011, folks!
