The Suffolk Free Press has a few more details on the filming that took place on the 29th of January in the mediæval village of Lavenham, Suffolk. No members of the cast were present for the scenes shot in the village in January, but the paper reports, “Harry Potter and Hermione Granger will be added through computer wizardry.” Jane Gosling, the manager of Lavenham Guildhall, commented on further digital adjustments such as editing out modern houses. The Guildhall itself (which is a National Trust building), says Gosling, was used as the house of Lily and James Potter. The article cites Lavenham’s “”ethereal” quality” as the reason why location managers chose the village “as the basis for Godric’s Hollow.”

Avatar ImageDiamondWings says: Awesome!!! 1st! XDAvatar ImageHermione_Granger_Weasley says: Can't wait to see Godric's Hallow, but I will be so sad when this movie comes out because the sereis is almost over.Avatar Imagehallows_or_horcruxes says: aaaaah this and the article before are getting me all excited this + malfoy manor are gonna be bombAvatar Imagecheeserpleaser says: What a fantastic location! I look forward to seeing it used in the movie!Avatar ImageI love my Spectra Specs says: This was one of my favourite parts of the book...I really hope they film it as close to the book as they possibly can!Avatar Imagemolly43 says: I'm really excited about DH and hope they don't make it so dark that scenes can't be made out. The place looks really interesting and I hope the mystical look will not be overrun by darkness. I especially hope that they don't make the fight scene btwn Mrs. Weasley and Bellatrix too dark. I really want to see her moves.Avatar ImageIceholic says: "Harry Potter and Hermione Granger will be added through computer wizardry." I wish they hadn't said that, it kind of ruins it for me :(Avatar Imagelazykitty says: That's not really the way I pictured the Potters' house. I thought it'd look more home-y. Oh well, I'm sure it'll look great in the film!Avatar ImageWizardRocker1 says: Interesting that Dan and Emma weren't on site for this scene - it's such an important part of the storyline. I will be curious how it turns out in the movie. Avatar ImageWizardRocker1 says: Interesting that Dan and Emma weren't on site for this scene - it's such an important part of the storyline. I will be curious how it turns out in the movie. Avatar Imagemommaweasley says: I agree molly43- I've noticed the poor lighting in a few of the past films- sometimes it's hard to see all of the wonderful details- maybe they are trying to set the mood, but I wish the films could feel darker without looking dark;-)Avatar ImageSeidenschnabel says: WizardRocker1 - If the scene is done properly, Dan and Emma wouldn't be there any way... My memory is a little fuzzy, but I believe Harry & Hermoine took polyjuice potion and were impersonating redheaded Muggles the whole time they were in Godric's Hollow. If my memory is correct, it seems they would get two other actors to play Harry & Hermoine for this scene.Avatar ImageDawna says: I definitely pictured a smaller cottage looking house...ah well!Avatar Imagejhangelgurl says: I agree with Iceholic. Ah I hate when they do stuff like that. Avatar Imageharrygetsme says: yeah it's a little different than i pictured it, too. but who knows what they'll change with the special effects and everything...Avatar Imagevespasian68967 says: I really, really hope they do these scenes well. There's so many great bits in DH that I'm cringing about thinking how they might translate to screen.Avatar Imageleigia says: Nice looking house. Since I didn't picture what the house would be like in my head while reading the books, any house would this one doesn't look too bad.Avatar ImageNumeroUnoFan says: this makes me even more stoked to see this movieAvatar Imagehallows_or_horcruxes says: everyone's gotta remember that when harry and hermionie see the house its all crumbled, the only other time we see it is with voldemort's memory Avatar ImageYodatheHobbit says: "I agree with Iceholic. Ah I hate when they do stuff like that." But they always do it. There are no hogwarts hill sides. Hogwarts hardly ever physically behind them during a scene outside. It's all done in post production so what's the big deal if they aren't actually at THIS set? Avatar ImageHermione Elizabeth says: Ooo Godric's Hollow! I also pictured a smaller house in my mind, but still can't wait to see James and Lily's place come to life finally.Avatar ImageIceholic says: It's not the fact that they weren't at this particular set, it's the fact that someone mentioned it and reminded it to me. I know it's all done on the green screen, but I prefer to believe it isn't. It keeps my fantasy world intact. Thinking of all the technicalities ruins the magic for me. That's why I never watch "making of's" and stuff like that. See it this way: we all know magic doesn't exist, but when we're reading the books it does exist. Actors don't exist, only the characters they play ;) Anyway, I wasn't really complaining, just sharing my feelings on that matter.Avatar ImageLunaLuver says: Omg I can't believe I'm seeing Lily and James house! It looks perfect just like I always though the Potter home would look. I'm so excited for the Godric Hollow part! Squee!!!! I can't wait!!Avatar ImageNicci Weasley says: The house is pretty different in my head.... But I can see this working as well....Avatar ImageEvagirl says: It looks just like I imagined it YAY!Avatar Imageforgetmenot_007 says: Yeah,I wonder if they will cast two different actors as Harry & Hermione, bcoz they took polyjuice potion and transformed into a muggle man and his wife....but there's also a chance that they might cut that polyjuice part out & keep them as Harry and Hermione,undisguised...probably under the Cloak?Avatar Imageswetahyd says: really this house looks more like a mansion than a cottage.....................................not vat i thoughtAvatar ImageFleur-de- Lily says: Awesome!!! Avatar ImageFilmGirl27 says: Cool. I don't mind, they have more than proven themselves with CGI. I hope they make the house look more damaged. Avatar ImageGraymayne says: This is the second building in Deathly Hallows that really jars for me. I loathed Shell Cottage as shown in the photographs in our news items, it was an architectural horror, far too Disneyesque. In the book Harry puts his hands on the garden gate of his parents' cottage, Lavenham Guildhall main door opens onto the street! I really question the taste of the people involved in this final production. Avatar ImagelittleL says: Wow, I've stayed in Lavenham at least a couple of times for a holiday and also visited that place! If only I'd known that I was in James and Lily's "house" at the time.. freakyAvatar Imagenwrosey says: I've read a lot of "anti" posts saying this is James/Lily's place. Did anyone think it is Bathilda Bagshot's house?Avatar ImageNot Slytherin says: Is that Lily and James' house? Hmmm .. not how I pictured it, but I'm sure it will be terrific in the film. OMG, so excited.Avatar ImageToNkS_rip says: i imagined it wuite different. but i cant complain, i guess ;pAvatar ImageJane_Potter says: Awesome. I want to see how it will look in the movie!!!Avatar ImageGiant Squid says: It looks great! I am so excited!Avatar ImageAll Was Well says: Is that the same house shown in the flashback in Sorcerer's Stone?Avatar ImageAndie21 says: I always had james and lily's home more of a cottage. I agree with nwrosey that it might be bathilda's rather than james and lily's. Can't wait for the movie.Avatar ImageWeetzie says: It looks very different from the house they used in the first film, which is more how i imagined it look like. But it will probably look better on the movie. And I think they've dropped the polyjuice potion, because in the trailer when harry and hermione visit a graveyard they are themselves, and I always thought that was supposed to be in Godric's Hollow. Besides the producers probably think the audience will prefer to see dan and emma than two old people..Avatar ImageWeetzie says: I hope it's supposed to be Bathilda's home!Avatar Imagealicia00 says: wow thats a big houseAvatar Imagebellaohbella says: cool cant waitAvatar ImageMoose_Starr says: Wow ... it looks kind of nice. Doesnt Stephen Fry live someplace near there? Maybe they'll give him a cameo role or something. I'm still hoping that he will be in the HP movies lolAvatar Imagegirlatty1 says: Yeah guys - it's different than what I thought but I think they will change the outside via computer graphics anyway. I think it's too white. Avatar ImageFilmGirl27 says: Just wondering, why aren't they using the house shown in Philosophers Stone? :SAvatar ImageIceholic says: @nwrosey, it says in the news clip: "The Guildhall itself (which is a National Trust building), says Gosling, was used as the house of Lily and James Potter."Avatar Imagejacket says: I can't wait to see Godric's Hollow I've been wondering what it would look like.Avatar Imagerumble_roar says: I pictured the Godric Hallow houses to be single story. I hope they make it snow because it was in the book! GO GODRICK'S HALLOW! I wonder how they will do the snake thing in Bathilda's house...Avatar Imageharrypotterfreak101 says: That sounds so exciting! I seriously can't control my excitement! Why don't the Deathly Hallows come out right now if everything is ready!Avatar Imagehewy says: They are really making the wait for the first installment extremely difficult!! Please hurry but get it right!Avatar Imageobiwancrazy says: Amazing! It's almost exactly like I imagined Godric's Hollow. @ seidenschnabel- Good observation, I'd almost forgotten they had Polyjuice in that scene. I hope they get that right.Avatar ImageLilMissLuna says: It's a bit different then I thought it would be.... Oh well. I'd like JK Rowling to make a Albus Potter series so that way our Potter love can continue.Avatar ImageAlice Weasley says: This sound like a cool place- I'd love to visit :)Avatar Imagedecarus says: Harry and Hermione will not be polyjuiced for the scenes at Godric's Hollow. I think it very unlikely that they will be under the cloak for any of the scenes at Godric's Hollow. We know that they are not under the cloak for the scene in the graveyard. There is going to be snow and a church with people going in, so i assume it will still be Christmas eve in the film. I am not getting where people are seeing that this house will be James and Lilly's house. I know it says it in the description on leaky, but it doesn't say that anywhere in the actual article if you click back on the link. I am not saying that this might not be the case. I just wonder what the source of this information is. Avatar ImageCatherine says: (singsongy voice) Awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i totally cant wait for part one!!!! but i think it is kind of a downer mentioning hte computer animations, and to add Seidenschnabel is right, they shouldnt be there, but in the minni trailer we have we see hermione wiping snow off the head they are gong to be there as harry and hermione....hope they dont change much more!Avatar ImageIceholic says: @decarus, it is on the article: "Jane Gosling, manager of the National Trust-run Lavenham Guildhall, spoke to the Free Press about the film crew's visit in January. She said: "It was all very exciting. What the film-makers are going to do is turn parts of Lavenham into Godric's Hollow (a village featured in the book and film series) and the Guildhall will be Harry Potter's parents' house."Avatar ImageInformal says: “Most of the cottage was still standing, though mostly covered in dark ivy and snow, but the right side of the top floor had been blown apart...” HPatDH, Ch. 17Avatar Imagemoglet says: Hi everyone, the word is (from Leavesden) that the potter house is a homely cottage, my source thinks the Guildhall may be the building across the street from it. They had a large Godric's Hollow set built at Pinewood which was filmed quite a while ago and they have rebuilt just a small part of it including the Potter's house at Leavesden for further filming, I imagine that the technical Wizardry may be to do with digitally stitching the sets into the larger setting of the actual town.Avatar Imagelurking_llama says: This looks quite good, I thought that the cottage was meant to be quite small but I'm sure that it will turn out fine..or at least I hope, it's such an iconic an important scene.Avatar Imagedecarus says: I see now where it says it in the article. I must have misread the article ten times. I was wondering if it is possible that this house is the house that the muggles see and then when Harry and Hermione get close they see the cottage with part of itself blown away. I could deal with that. I did like the house in PS/SS better, but this isn't an end all. We don't know enough. Avatar Imagejhangelgurl says: @YodatheHobbit: What I ment by my comment was that they were going to add them by computer. Telling me kind of ruins the moment for me believing they actually filmed there and i see the scene differently thats all. Avatar ImageFresca says: Special Effects can create wonderful scenes in movies these days!Avatar Imagebella vita says: Technically the top right-hand side of the Potters house is supposed to be in ruins when Harry and Hermione visit Godric's Hollow polyjuiced as a muggle couple. Remember it was left in its ruined state in tribute to the Potters. I'm thinking this is actually for the part right after Harry and Hermione disapparate and Harry is unconscious thinking he is Voldemort who has just watched them escape and is seeing Voldemort's memory of everything that happened the night he killed the Potters and attacked Harry because the house would be fully intact for that memory. I'm sure they'll just go back and CG all of the damage to the house caused by Voldemort's backfired killing curse when Harry and Hermione visit.Avatar Imageimaginemagic says: I really hope they do well on the Godric's Hollow scene and don't try too hard to make it more PG . I understand when they do that, but sometimes it's necessary to capture the emotional aspect of it to add some mature contentAvatar Imagemaimiaa says: hmm.Avatar Imagedecarus says: I think they will go PG-13 for this film though they have changed rating standards in the last few years, so i am not completely sure about this. That is one thing that is good about everyone dying by magic, they don't have to be too bloody about it. Avatar ImageTheRebekinator says: I can NOT wait for this scene ! It will be so sad. especially becase when Harry visits his parents grave for the very first time, he isn;t himself exactly.Avatar Imagedecarus says: Harry and Hermione are not going to be polyjuiced for this scene. Avatar ImageLoveTomRiddle says: Cool! I wonder if they're going to use Adrian and Gereldine again, or are they going to use new actors to play Lily and James. But I do hope they'll change the house. It looks quite odd.Avatar ImageJTEL99 says: I hate when they just map actors into locations that they've never been to, but I guess they do that quite often in movies, don't they? :o(Avatar Imagemoglet says: @LoveTomRiddle, they are using Adrian and Geraldine, don't worry about that! Also as I said previously the Potters House which is currently part of a small section of Godric's Hollow built at Leavesden is described as a homely cottage, having seen the picture of the Guild Hall my source said, that is not the Potter's house but may be the building opposite.Avatar ImagePollytomat says: They actually can change everything with special effects! In some years it will be possible to shoot Emma directly form Brown and Daniel from NYC or London and then insert them in a landscape/scene... Advantage: a big economy on plane tickets! :)
