Video has made its way online from the special features on the forthcoming “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2″ Blu-ray DVD showing a moment from the Dan Radcliffe (Harry Potter) and J.K. Rowling sit down interview where the author talks about the possibility of killing the character of Ron while writing the series. Ms. Rowling explains that during a not so “very happy place” mid way through writing the series, she “started thinking [she] might punish one of them off.” In explaining her choice of character, she adds:

“In my absolute heart of hearts of hearts ’ although I did seriously consider Ron. Anyway, I can tell you it’s a real relief to talk about it.”

The full fifty-seven second video clip from the interview can be watched right here:

That would be so sad! I'm glad she didn't!Avatar Imagehewy says: OMG not Ron!!! So glad she had a change of heart!!!Avatar Imagespelljinxcursehexcharm says: It doesn't sound like she took the prospect of killing Ron seriously. I think it would've made Deathly Hallows much more powerful, sadder, and ultimately a better book. Lots of people would be so sad about it, but people liked Sirius, Dobby, Hedwig too, and their deaths made Harry's experience all the more dramatic. If she did make Ron die, maybe then Fred wouldn't have. But throughout Deathly Hallows, I thought that Ginny Weasley was going to die, for the ultimate "Harry-loses-everything" ending. Although if one of the "Trio" had to die, I think it should've been Harry. But whatever.Avatar Imagesparkle9 says: I'm glad she didn't kill Ron! Avatar ImageLivi22 says: Ronnie? My Ronnie? I'm sooooo glad that didn't happen!Avatar Imagegexpert says: But, what would Hermione do if Ron died? She can't end up with Viktor Krum can she?Avatar Imageforgetmenot_007 says: Ah,what a relief that it didn't actually happen!!Avatar Imagetibby71 says: Oh my gosh, I'm so very glad she didn't actually do it. Avatar ImageFleur-de- Lily says: I’m glad she didn’t kill Ron in the end !Avatar ImageLuce_depp says: Yeah i guess out of them all I thought Harry would die. I think killing Ron would be an odd choice, he's not my favourite character, but I think he holds a lot of people together.Avatar ImageGoldenGem says: Well she killed off three of my favourites: Sirius, Snape and Dobby so I suppose I should be grateful she didn't kill Ron.Avatar Imagegirlatty1 says: Glad she changed her mind.Avatar Imageilovequiddichsofi says: Ron!!!!! NOOOOOOO! he's one of my fav charactersAvatar ImageHarryPotterGirl (Hermione) says: Killing Ron? Well good think she change her mind lol because I don't think I would like Harry Potter anymore if that happen lol just kidding I will be just sad cause he my 3th favorite characher I love the trio.Avatar ImageBlame The Nargles says: I'm super glad she didn't kill Ron! But, throughout the last books, I thought if one of the main characters died, it would be Hermione. I mean, it's always like 'Let's ask Hermione, she knows everything!' so it would be a real shock to Harry and Ron if she went, and they'd have to make their own way without relying on her. It really would have changed the story.Avatar Imageharrypotter4258 says: good thing she didn't. xDAvatar ImageMatea says: I was so scared for the life of someone from the trio, and I'm glad they made it through. I must agree, killing Ron would definitely change the story radically and the book would have a bigger and stronger impact. In the end, whatever and however she writes, it's always the perfect way. That's her beauty. Avatar Imagedragonfrog says: I'm pretty sure she is saying "polish one of them off", not "punish".Avatar ImageWON_TWO says: Kill RON???? Geeze, I'm still not over Hedwig or Dobby!!! O.OAvatar Imagehermioneginnyluna says: It would've made for a made for a much more beautiful story if he had gotten killed after The Kiss, but I am so glad she decided otherwise.Avatar Imagesiskiou says: Sounds to me like she was thinking of killing him far earlier than DH (mid-series, it says). Seeing how Harry and Hermione generally interact when Ron is not around, I'm sure glad she changed her mind! What would Harry have done without his best mate? And Hermione? It's too sad to think about.Avatar Imagekyrstalkris says: No! She can never kill Ron! I'm just extremely glad that she didn't kill ANYONE of the trio, for that matter! They're the Golden Trio -- always will be. :')Avatar Imagekyrstalkris says: Oh, and I should say, I really ADORE the relationship between Jo and Daniel! It's adorable, and I'm glad it's this strong after a decade! <33Avatar ImageHermioneGranger2 says: I wonder what the books would have been like if Ron woulkd have died........ not that I wanted hime to!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Avatar ImageWeenyOwl says: Agreed, dragonfrog: She's definitely saying 'polish one of them off.' 'Punish one off' makes no sense.Avatar Imagewandmastercalum says: I'm not going to lie thats a little shock tbh :OAvatar ImageLunaLuver says: If she had killed Ron then Hermione could ended up with Draco! Tempting! For a while I was affraid Hermione would die in DH, so happy she didnt. =DAvatar ImageValeria-Johanna says: Why on earth would Hermione even look at Draco? He's treated her with nothing but contempt throughout the stories.Avatar ImageMagixian says: Not tempting at all. Hermione with Draco would ... nah..Avatar Imagej@m says: If you think that Hermione would ever look at Draco in a romantic light, or in any positive way at all, you've clearly horribly misunderstood the books. Anyway, so good she didn't kill off Ron or any other member of trio, I would have stopped reading the books right there.Avatar Imageblessedb28 says: SO ironic... when JK came out & said that one of the main characters would die, I thought it would be Ron. I thought we'd get to the final book (or close) & he would die trying to save Hermione's life as a chivarlous & selfless act of love for her. I was peeing my pants reading her torture scene with Bellatrix for the first time, thinking that was it. SO ironic that she considered it. But it wouldn't have been OK in the end if the trio had been broken so I'm glad that didn't happen. Avatar Imagemencia says: Kill Ron?????????? Am I glad that didn't happen that would have broken the hearts of many potterheads.Avatar ImageCarinaPotter says: Thank GOD she changed her mind! Honestly, if she had seriously killed him, not only would it not made any sense with the plot, but it would have just made me overall extremely unhappy with the entire series. I probably wouldn't be as big a fan; to watch Ron grow up throughout the books and then suddenly die? That's harsh. It also just wouldn't have done any characters any good, obviously, especially not Harry. I feel that, if Ron had been killed off, Harry wouldn't be as good of heart anymore. He would have gone into that battle with Voldemort ready to seriously murder him for purely personal reasons, not just get rid of him for all of the wizarding world. He would have become like the DEs. He wouldn't be afraid to use the Unforgivable Curses and such; he used Unforgivables when Sirius and Dumbledore died, imagine how he'd react when his absolute best friend died? It would have completely corrupted and destroyed him. It would hang over him completely until the day he died and I don't think he'd ever truly reach that happy ending that he needed. And don't even get me started on how utterly devastated and destroyed Hermione would be. I don't want to go there. That's too heart-wrenching.Avatar Imagehandhrfan18 says: omg i wonder why she would consider that? that is gob smacking. i loved ron as a character because he always brought the humor! i am glad she didn't though because then who would hermione marry? XDAvatar Imagejacket says: Yeah she must have just been killing herself not being able to talk to anyone about what was happening! I hate that feeling when you know something about a book and you just HAVE to talk about it but you can't because it would be full of spoilers and that would just ruin the book for everyone else! I'm really glad she didn't kill Ron, I'd have been so depressed I think I'd probably cry for hours afterwards.Avatar Imagelubnadreamsbig says: wow i'd never think one of the main characters would die..i didnt think she could do that, hahahahahaAvatar Imagesessionka says: I don't know if I would have finished reading the series if Ron or Hermione had been killed off.Avatar Imageazaadpotter says: no that would have been too bad
