In March our Contest Team invited you to take part in their Snape and Draco Story Contest, which asked you to write a story about where Snape and Draco Apparated to at the end of Half-Blood Prince and what happened when they got there. After receiving many great entries, the judges have now picked the winners as follows:
First Place: Brendan Collins
Second Place: LadyBlack
Third Place: Shannon Adams
Honourable Mention: Valeria-Johanna
Honourable Mention: shawkes1
The first place winner will receive a handcrafted wand donated by Wizard Wood Wands (changes monthly) and 200 MyLeaky points. Well done to the winners and everyone else who entered!

Congratulations to the winners & honorable mentions! Well done, all of you! Have to say, my favorites are Brendan’s & Ladyblack’s. I thought it was very interesting how 1 focused on Draco, the other, Snape – both capturing the deep emotions that were racing through the characters. Really like how you took them to a house across from Snape’s initially, Brendan. Very clever :)

It looks to me like Valeria-Johanna’s entry got disqualified from winning First Place on a technicality, because one or more of the judges was uncomfortable with awarding it for poetry instead of prose. It is far and away the best entry. Brava, V-J!

Wow, those were amazing, I loved them all! Valeria-Johanna, your poem was awesome, very clever to think of doing it that way instead of the usual story-telling way! I’m rather glad I’m not on the panel, I’d never have been able to chose who should win….

WeenyOwl I totally agree. I can only assume too that Valeria-Johanna missed out on the First Prize because of the format she chose …. the other entries are not even remotely close to the impact of her skillfully crafted lament.

Siena I quite disagree with you, the lament copied by Valeria-Johanna was not skillfully crafted at all. If you read the original lyrics you will see that the only difference between the two is that names of people and locations were changed. Thats something a two year old could do. In addition it was repettitive (it wasn’t long before I started to read just the 1st and 3rd lines) it offered far less plot information than the other beautifully writ entries, and Valeria-Johanna’s entry contrasted with actual events since in the book Narcissa Malfoy knew where her son was and what he was doing. Lastly I think that because of the unique way in which Valeria-Johanna wrote her entry as a ballad instead of a story as was requested in the contest rules was why the judges felt inclined to give her 1st Honorable Mention.
