Ask Your Pottermore Questions

Hi all!

We know that a lot of you have questions about Pottermore, J.K. Rowling’s new and recently announced Web site. We’ve seen questions about how it will work, what it will look like, what it will contain, and more.

The team at Pottermore have asked us to help collect your questions so they can answer some things for you. Not everything (for instance, about exactly what will happen on July 31, or more details about J.K. Rowling’s involvement) can be answered, but if you want some more detail about the site, how to compete for the house cup, how to progress through the story, etc., then this is the opportunity.

Just TWEET your question to @leaky using the hashtag #pottermore starting right now. Leaky’s team will sort through them and send the most-asked questions to Pottermore by the end of this week.

Thanks, everyone!

Avatar ImagePatronus 27 says: Sad, I didn't have twitter..... :-((Avatar Imagemencia says: first to comment yeeppy, I want to know what do they mean by giving fans the chance to write the books? how will that work? what kinds of games will be there? how long will the registration process last? Avatar Imagelivvylynn77 says: I am so lost. I just found out abput pottermore today and i am tryin to catch up on it.Avatar ImageAceba says: sounds cool! can't wait until october!!!Avatar ImageSPSipal says: Wonderful opportunity! I have a question on what types of questions can be answered. I've been collections questions from readers on my blog for several days regarding what new info they most want to see on Pottermore -- backstory, JKR's thoughts and resources, etc. Can we ask these types of questions through you to Pottermore? Or just how the site will work?Avatar Imagedobbyisfreee says: WHAT IS IT????? Avatar Imagesboyer06 says: dont have twitter and refuse to get itAvatar ImageLivi22 says: Don't have twitter so won't be able to ask any questions but I'm looking forward to finding out what they are and the answers to them.Avatar ImageGwynogs_rabbit says: oh good, because it still refuses to acknowledge that my email is an actual email address! Panicking here!Avatar ImageRubeusHagrid says: Dont have tweeter <.< Parents wont let me..Really Leaky, people, (basically everyone whos commented) doesnt have a Twitter! I have an important question.. When will the books be each put on the site? I know PS/SS is in October, the opening, and CS is in Spring 2012..Avatar ImageRubeusHagrid says: By the way, sorry for sounding cranky :) I love Pottermore and JK Rowling <3 You're my childhood!Avatar ImageLily Evans30 says: Grrr I don't have a twitter :( Avatar ImageGwynogs_rabbit says: ok, I must be a Twitter idiot because I cannot find where I replied to the Leaky tweet about this. But it says we can respond here about it so: Pottermore won't accept my email, it says it doesn't look like a valid email, and I THINK it may be because it ends with, which may look strange according to their preset parameters for emails, maybe? Please help! Thank you so much for taking questions!Avatar ImageLauraKeaton says: I don't have twitter. So I'm going to ask the question here. Can they tell us what time on July 31st will begin the challenge to be one of the million? Like will it be U.S. or British time? Will it be a midnight release? Or will we just have to check throughout that day?Avatar ImageRubeusHagrid says: I agree @Laura Keaton- Will it open at midnight and if so what time zone? British, US, or..?Avatar Imagehermy007 says: dont have one either, but maybe i should get one...hmmAvatar ImageEeyore says: @ Gwynog'srabbit: that is an unusual email but you could just sign up for a yahoo account. It's free and I'm sure pottermore would recognize it as valid. I sometimes use my yahoo email when I don't really want someone to have access to my regular one. I have twitter but don't use it often. I'll have to think about a question. For the moment, I'm willing to just wait and see what happens.Avatar ImageWant to be a Weasley says: Maybe someone who does have a twitter account, could collect some of the questions posted on here and send them in. Just by reading the article, I don't think they are going to collect the questions that are posted in the comments section of the news article. I could be wrong and Leaky may surprise me!Avatar Imageroonwit says: I don't have a twitter account but my question would be whether we will find out what other common rooms look like and what information (such as the history of that house etc.) is given in them? It doesn't have to be the full experience - it could for example be in a book in the library (if we get to see the library) - but it would be nice to find out the new information about the other house as well.Avatar ImageLunaLuver says: Darn it I dont have a twitter, yet. I'm planning on opening one soon though, mainly to keep up with the HP actors. My question would be is are the usernames going to be like here on Leaky, anything we want, or do that have to be a certain way? And if you are lucky enough on July 31st, what will we have access to?Avatar ImageRubeusHagrid says: @roonwit-- Um it was already said we'd know all of what you just asked..Are you joking? :PAvatar Imagekyrstalkris says: Ugh, I don't have a twitter. . . . D;Avatar ImageSproutMdme says: Not everyone has Twitter. But I do have a few questions: Will this be a linear experience or will we be able to roam freely though all of the online books as we wish? Also, will we learn anything more about Filch’s attachment to Mrs. Norris?Avatar ImageMad But Happy says: Is it really going to be totally free? Or will it only be free until a certain point/book? Forgive me for being skeptical, but I've been raised under the notion that there is no such thing as free lunch! It seems too good to be true!Avatar Imagetim_2006 says: What is all this nonsense about a challenge? I thought it was the first million to register. Has a challenge been officially announced by either JK Rowling or Pottermore?Avatar Imageroonwit says: tim_2006: read the press release which says "From today, 23rd June, fans can submit their email addresses on in order to be contacted by the site following the opening of registration on 31st July, Harry’s birthday. Also on that date, an online challenge will be launched, whereby the first million people to complete their registration will gain early entry into the website, and help put final touches to the experience." which sounds to me as if there is more to it than just being the first to give your name.Avatar Imageroonwit says: Mad But Happy: I believe Jo when she says it will be free and it is to give something back to the fans, though if you happen to be inspired to buy an e-book (available from the site) I am sure they won't complain.Avatar ImageEmilyDeibert says: Too bad I don't have Twitter. :( AND too bad we can't ask how to get on early! Silly people. But I agree, the whole when will it start on the 31st thing.... And I guess more it works? Is it a game, is it a social networking thing, is it just an interactive way of reading the books? Avatar ImageWON_TWO says: I am not a TWIT... & do not have any plans to ever be a TWIT... Ask your own questions!Avatar ImageGwynogs_rabbit says: @Eeyore thanks! I thought of doing something like that but was worried how hackable those kind of emails may be. But if it comes down to the wire I'm getting one - probably yahoo like you suggested. Thanks!Avatar Imageginny_weasley1998 says: Umm no twitter, can't we just ask here!?!I am... In the intro video it says the most imoortant thing is "you" how much of the story is about you if any?Avatar ImageGiant Squid says: Ok, time to think up some questions!Avatar ImageDavidTheUnready says: I code websites, that email address will fail on most of them. Most email addresses are in the format yourid then @ then the domain a single period and the top level domain (.com or .net etc). If you have an email with more than one period after the @ then yes, there is a very good chance it will fail. Open a free gmail account, its free and will be acceptable for pottermore. Avatar Imageroonwit says: DavidTheUnready: It isn't that simple. I have an email address with more than one period after the @ (though not a .com or .net) and it registered successfully.Avatar Imageizziewitch says: *RubeusHagrid, that wasn't a stupid question that roonwit asked. From what I had read, we'll learn more about the house we're sorted into (if it's not Griffindor), but not that everyone else will. Although, I hope we can have access to that info. Hope Leaky will post answers to the questions asked via Twitter, because I don't have an account either--and don't want to get one.Avatar ImageTheOtherHorcrux says: I have a Twitter ... but why do you need to ask the questions via Twitter? Why couldn't you ask them on Leaky instead of Twitter. Confusing.... But my question(s) would have to be: What exactly does Jo mean by a "reading experience" for Pottermore? Do you have to unlock new content or will it just show up? Avatar Imagejoeys_mommy says: I just wanna know if Neville has Kids and if it will be revealed on Pottermore, I know, I'm weird :PAvatar Imageroonwit says: TheOtherHorcrux: Using # tags on twitter is a form of marketing, because much #ed topics are more likely to come to the attention of other twitter users. It looks from the images that there a certain amount of unlocking required, because the Hogwarts Express image has locked tags at the top of the gate corresponding to Hogwarts locations. The gateway image looks like a user status page, and there is a winding path around circles corresponding to the books.Avatar Imagetrontech says: If I must be on twitter to keep up with HP and Leaky, I think I'll have to twapitulate.Avatar Imagewillowandlaylasmom says: So looking forward to this! :) Avatar Imagewillowandlaylasmom says: So looking forward to this! :) Avatar ImageEve13 says: Awwwwww! I don't have twitter :( I'm soooo curious. I really hope that Leaky will post the new info. They probably will!Avatar Imagemagic1017 says: I knew there was a reason I kept "Twitter" open and updated ; ) The question I was having was will 'Pottermore' be 'monitored' from people using tasteless or vulgar language or jokes? I know J K Rowling hates that and won't allow it on her personal FB page. I think sometimes younger people think it's 'cool' to cuss but seriously IT'S NOT necessary! Avatar Imagejohnkyutrhyl says: wats Pottermore?i dont know this website yet...Avatar Imagemagic1017 says: The e-books are what I am so excited about! I can't wait!Avatar Imageazaadpotter says: I'm joining twitter now :)Avatar Imagewiz witch says: I can't ask any questions because I don't have twitter... :( Avatar ImageRebekka says: In a post, it said you will be sorted into a house and get a wand. I wonder whether you can choose or whether you'll have to take a quiz or so...Avatar Imagecamila_black08 says: oh.....i also don't have a twittter :(Avatar Imagecamila_black08 says: you´ll have to take a quiz Avatar Imagelorenfangor says: I don't have a twitter, so I'm going to post here. This isn't exactly a question more of a suggestion. Instead of just having the audiobooks, they could make an old fashioned radio play. You know like an audio book but with sound effects and different actors reading the parts of the characters. In order to incorporate the fans, they could have fans audition to be the voices of the characters. And they could even have fans send in illustrations of the chapters to go into a video to go with it.Avatar ImageBlindtech says: I don't have a twitter eather, but I'm worried about the site not being accessible for the blind. Many times the blind camunaty is left out of really cool things. It happens all the time. There are tuns of Harry Potter fans that are blind and we don't want to be left out of Pottermore. So will it be accessible for screenreaders and people with low vition that need larger print and immages?Avatar ImageSarah1996 says: Will The Graphics be Good, or some kind of farmville- kind - of - graphics ? (:Avatar ImageDobbyDoter says: I really want to know exactly what the interactive part of pottermore isAvatar Imagebbrick99 says: I feel bad (and know that it's prohibited) to have 2 accounts. But yesterday during registration the website told me to register again and get a new account because "something is wrong with the registration process." Am I going to be automatically disqualified? And did anyone else get this message?Avatar ImageCordelia Bushweed says: @RebeusHagrid&Laura Keaton You might know now but I think they are using British time. but I am not sure so I just stayed up for twenty for ours and checked ever few minutes and I GOT ON!!! =DAvatar ImageCordelia Bushweed says: Wait... I am confused about the hat? Like what type of quiz? Avatar ImageFiammetta says: will your be able to comentAvatar Imageahaque521 says: tell pottermore that i am not a squib and i want my letter now please!!
