The Hollywood Reporter has released a list of 25 interesting facts about the props and sets used to make the Harry Potter films. Some facts include:
1.Daniel Radcliffe wore out 60-70 wands during the making of the Harry Potter films.
2. Every wand that you see in any of the Harry Potter films is created on-site. No two wands are alike…not even the Weasley twins’!
3. Wands are 13-15 inch long and haven’t changed in length, so the actors have had to grow into them over the years.
4. Dumbledore’s wand was a very elaborate design, even though its
significance of being the Elder Wand was far from being known when made.

I love this kind of trivia! It shows how engaged with telling the story the film makers were. Like good cooking, each ingredent taken together makes the tale good.

Oh my god! That’s a fast way to lose a lot of money! And most of it isn’t even notificed in the movies! D; But, thanks to everyone who did that! It’s very special to the fans, although we couldn’t see it — it just helps create the Harry Potter world! (:

Just to add a bit more information about the paintings, many members of the crew were also immortalised in the paintings that adorn the staircases, Dumbledore’s office and Malfoy Manor.
And regarding other things the prop moulding department spent many many weeks moulding hundreds of replicas of all the treasure in Bellatrix’s vault so that the scene would look much more real as there was an actual pile of treasure for the actors to work with.

Somebody needs to make a book with detailed photos of all of the props used in the films. I want to see what all of the wands that don’t really get any screen time look like.

@blue_rogue, if Harry Potter: The Exhibition comes to a city anyplace near you, you will get an opportunity to see many of the wands up close. I was especially impressed with Slughorn’s, which you don’t get a good look at onscreen in HBP, but looks exactly the way you would expect a wand to look that belongs to someone with a taste for luxuries. It has a sort of scroll design in what appears to be silver inlay. I also really liked Fred’s, which looks kind of like it was made out of a stack of little pinecones jammed together.
