A small update this morning from J.K. Rowling’s Twitter indicates her book will be out this year:
As you may have heard, I have a new book out later this year. Very different to Harry, although I’ve enjoyed writing it every bit as much.

Avatar Imageakcorr says: I was just going to ask you guys to see if you can dig up a release date!! Great job!! I know it's going to be completely different that Harry Potter I cannot wait to get my hands on this book!!Avatar Imagelovelle says: I'm actually really looking forward to reading something new from her! congrats to her and best of luck!Avatar Imageginnyrose says: SQUEEEE Avatar ImageLauraKeaton says: This is such a tease! I'm dying for more info. At least tell us what genre, Jo! Avatar ImageAvanelleWood says: So nice to have something to look forward to. Avatar ImageZeGrindylows says: yay! i knew she would keep writing. Im very excited. Avatar ImageMidnightShield11 says: I'm still crying. JK you're perfect! Avatar Imagelupinblack2001 says: midnight release party!!!Avatar ImageLivi22 says: Can't wait! It's going to be amazing! I'll be queueing up at the bookshop of course!Avatar ImageWeenyOwl says: As a copy editor I'm always having to correct writers when they use 'different than' when it should be 'different from.' 'Different to' is a new usage on me entirely!Avatar ImageValeria-Johanna says: 'Different to' is an informal but common British usage. We were warned against it at school! 'Different than' would have been beyond the pale entirely.Avatar ImageLunaLuver says: Depending on how 'adult' her new book is, a lot of Js's fan may not be able to read it. I hope she doesnt go too far to please adults, its the younger fans that put her where she is. I though it said the genre was crime/mystery.Avatar Imageroonwit says: lupinblack2001: I am not convinced there will be midnight release parties, as I think Jo will want to distinguish the release from Harry Potter ones. Also you may not know what to dress up as. lunaluver: Jo is trying to make it clear that this isn't a book for younger fans. So it won't be aimed at them and they will probably be disappointed if they are expecting it to be like the Potter books. On the other hand Jo has talked of writing a children's book as well so it is possible there will be news of a new children's book before this one is published.Avatar Imageroonwit says: lunaluver: I forgot to mention that we don't know what the genre of the new book will be, it is only speculation it will be crime or mystery, though I suspect we will know more before it appears.Avatar ImageWeenyOwl says: I just hope that 'adult' doesn't mean so steamy that the kids who flock to read it just because it's JKR will be getting a little too much age-inappropriate information. That might work with later books, when she has a canon of adult lit established; but we have to assume that her first time out, very young audiences will be checking out whatever she writes.Avatar ImageWeenyOwl says: A mystery novel for Jo makes so much sense to me. She is so brilliant at slipping clues in between the lines.Avatar ImageThe Hufflepuff Giraffe says: I can't believe that pen and paper aren't her priority anymore! Ahaha, silly Twitter. I am so crazyexcited for this book, I just... !!!Avatar Imageroonwit says: WeenyOwl: Should Jo limit herself though if she wants to write a steamy book just because she has previously been known for children's books? I am not saying she will but surely it is right for Jo to write what she feels makes the best story even if it does end up being unsuitable for younger readers. However it is interesting to think what Jo might consider to be an adult novel, as a lot of adult themes sneaked their way into the Potter books. I think there will be few if any child characters and less a child could identify with, more shades of grey in heroes and villains and probably more complex plots. I do think there will be mysteries and plot twists and perhaps some light humour, though that would depend on the style of the novel.Avatar Imagekyrstalkris says: YES! I'm growing more and more impatient by the second. . . .Avatar ImageLunaLuver says: Its risky enough for her to write another book, and kids/teens are going to find a way to read it reguardless simply because its JKR. So for her sake I hope she doesnt go the 'too steamy' rout, and that it does well for her. Otherwise she'd be better off to not write anything else. Lets face it, its not like she has to. Also being an Adult books doesnt always mean no young people will be able to read it. Look at Mary Higgins Clark, she writes adults book, but they're just good wholesome murder mystery plots that anyone can enjoy.Avatar Imageakcorr says: @WeenyOwl Couldn't have said it better myself!Avatar ImageValeria-Johanna says: If she wanted, she could write something quite difficult and experimental. After all, she doesn't have to worry about the money or the problems of getting it published!Avatar Imagewandmastercalum says: This is great! Thought we were going to have a year without something to look forward to. Although it isn't about Harry Potter, it still is by JK Rowling, which is good enough for meAvatar Imageroonwit says: Valeria-Johanna: She doesn't even need to worry about this book selling - it will probably be a best seller even if it is complete rubbish, though it would probably hit the sales of future books if it really was that bad. However I can't believe she or her publisher would try to publish this book unless it would sell on its own merits.Avatar ImageSigourney1990 says: I don't see why everyone seems so concerned about her catering to a certain audience - she's a writer and she'd going to write whatever comes naturally. After so many years with Harry she might well go a completely different way, just because a lot of her fans are children doesn't mean she has to write a book suitable for them. Children grow up, they'll be able to enjoy her work regardless. Avatar ImageAni Sharmin says: I can't wait. This is so exciting.Avatar ImageLegendMN007 says: If this is turns out to be a new series hopefully she doesn't have as many plot holes as she did in the HP series.Avatar ImageWeasleyisourking99 says: Oh, I can't wait! :D Avatar ImageWON_TWO says: Lots of folks are waiting...Avatar Imagejacket says: So excited! I can't wait to get my hands on it! I know I'll love it no matter what the story line or genre! I can't wait to see what new characters have formed in the brilliant mind of Jo!
