The Pottermore Insider updated today to announce that Pottermore.com will be coming out of the Beta phase and open to everyone in early April 2012.

The Beta period for Pottermore was extended indefinitely toward the end of last year. The Insider explains why this decision was made:

We always knew Pottermore would be incredibly popular, which is why we
made the decision to only open to one million Beta users to begin with.
We wanted to make sure that we had a really good understanding of how
people want to use the site and which bits we’d need to modify before
giving more people access.

We gathered some incredibly useful feedback from our Beta users, and it
became clear that our original platform wouldn’t be suitable when
millions more users came on to the site. So we made a big decision: to
move Pottermore to an entirely different platform set up. This
˜invisible’ change has involved a lot of work behind the scenes but it
will enable our users to get the best from Pottermore as it grows and
develops.

The Pottermore team notes that, through fan feedback, they have decided to add more exclusive content and features to the site, including sounds. Stick close to Leaky as we continue to report on the latest updates surrounding Pottermore.

Avatar ImageFleur-de- Lily says: cool!Avatar Imageginevra47 says: I think there will be a lot more disappointed folks when they realize what is actually there. I haven't been on the site in months...alas, it seems it was much ado about not much:( After all the hype I expected more content.Avatar ImageJaxyEvaby says: Well, I'm super excited about this! Finally, I'll be able to get the eBooks, and I'll be able to take the greatest books ever written with me everywhere I go. I can't deny that this will disappoint lots of people, but I personally love all the little bits of info on Pottermore.Avatar ImageCool Grandma2 says: This is good news. Maybe we will be able to be on the site without being knocked out. I might even try potions again since the time to make the potion my be less. One was 90 minutes waiting.Avatar ImageMad But Happy says: I go on the site daily for wand battles XD But I've been dying for more content! Hopefully the next book will be available when it gets opened to the public! I can't wait to see the other stores open up in Diagon Alley, as well.Avatar Imagejennluvsharry says: honestly, this site was a disappointment. the hype was more than it should have been, and like ginevra47, i havent been on it in months. the book doesnt take long to go through and the best part is the backstories (which i loved!). besides the potion making (which gets old) and the dueling, this could have been alot more interactive. for now i will just enjoy the extra content of the booksAvatar ImageEthighese says: wow. Pottermore ae kobe dhukbo..Avatar Imagezoltan42 says: I wonder if there will be some way of telling the new content from what was there before. Once I made it through the chapters, I've been back only a few times, maybe once every other month or so. Personally, I hope the make a few changes to the spells part. The last time I was there, there was only one spell you could use to practice. Unless I was missing something, the only way to use spells is when you're in a duel. The first time you use most spells is in duel, so you can't practice. I don't really have any interest of dueling, but I wouldn't mind being top try a few on my own.Avatar ImageRaytheforgottenWeasley says: wasn't one of the million, so hard to say. I am excited in that there will be some new Potter content out there, but most of the comments that I have read have been lukewarm at best. Will definitely try it out.....Avatar Imageteamtonks says: one word....FINALLLYY!! :D *excited*Avatar ImageHarryLoverAllRound says: I can't wait to join!Avatar Imagehorcruxhunter7 says: Yay! Can't wait :D!!! SUPER excited!Avatar ImageRavenclawmax says: I was on vacation for the Magic Quill contest, so wasn't able to be a part of Beta, so I am very excited for this after a long wait. I was quite upset with the delay, and am glad to hear how much it seems to be improving a lot. I hope that this will be better than the Pottermore that I heard about. I, of course am excited to read the new content, but I am mostly just excited to figure out my house.Avatar Imagemoglet says: It seems that they really have taken notice of the feedback which is good news, adding sounds will definitely make the experience a little more interesting. I have loved all the extra content, but not been overwhelmed by anything else, but I do know that lots of people have enjoyed making potions and duelling, I've done a little of that, but it's not really my thing, so I only visit once in a blue moon. I hope that they will open the Chamber of Secrets book soon after the site has been open to all, I'm itching to start exploring the next book and looking for more extra content.Avatar Imagekatelyner123 says: Oh my gosh, I am so excited that I ill finally be able to join Pottermore!!!! :DAvatar ImageLunaLuver says: This is great for everyone who wasnt lucky enough to become a Beta Tester. I got in because of a friend but havet been on much only because I've been busy along with computer problems. But whenever I have been on I've really enjoyed it. :)Avatar ImageWON_TWO says: Fascinating... Just a short while ago I had heard it may never open... I wonder how long it will take before COS is activated?Avatar ImageTarana says: I can't wait.... for the "Scottish book" to come out, which sounds infinitely more interesting than Pottermore, but of course, I'll have a look at Pottermore when I finally get the chance.Avatar Imageroonwit says: Won_Two: I never believed that it wouldn't open, because they needed the site for ebooks, but it is nice to have an indication of when it will open. I wouldn't be surprised if the ebooks part of the site appears around the same time, but I think CoS won't appear until a least a month afterwards when the initial rush of new people joining has died down a bit.Avatar Imagehermioneginnyluna says: I may be a Beta user, but I've gone on the site twice. I beat the first book in a few hours. I was sorely disappointed with Pottermore. Avatar Imagerootbably says: FINALLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My friend and i have been DYING to go to pottermore, and now we can! Yes!!Avatar Imagekyrstalkris says: AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! CAN'T WAIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I do hope they manage to fix everything and don't have to delay again. (:Avatar ImageXyra44 says: This is wonderful news. I have enjoyed being a Pottermore beta user and am looking forward to more people being able to use it (and to progress beyond the first book).Avatar ImageLunaLoonyLovegood says: Yay!!!!!!!!!!! I can't wait! :) I was at camp when the Beta test opened so I wasn't able to join :( So I'm so excited about it finally opening to the public!!! :)Avatar ImageMelly96 says: EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I cant wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I totally missed the registration for Beta!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm SOOOOOOOO excited!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Avatar Imagekittygurl212hpfan says: Looking forward to interacting with more users, because I know for a fact that one million people aren't signed up anymore. I haven't been on in months either and hopefully the new features will entice me to go on more. Also, we need more Hufflepuffs to help us win the house cup!Avatar Imagezaucwrkexun says: Aaaarrrgh! I can't wait, just when I was about to give up on checking the site! This is great news, I don't have another exam until May so I'll be on it 24/7. XDAvatar Imagesilverkacy says: I like it and i like the extra content although I haven't finished it all yet :( The sounds sound (haha) cool though!Avatar ImageLivi22 says: Yay!!!! All my friends can get in now!!!!Avatar ImageOwlKnight says: I've really enjoyed being a beta user. The site was challenging when I first started in August; potions wouldn't work right, wizards duel was not working, etc. However, the site has improved a lot since. I'm wondering if there is any news on what will happen to the beta users. Will we get to keep our points? Will they reset the House points? Avatar ImageBroorportfeta says: I can't wait!!!Avatar ImageChoKo says: I've been waiting for it to come out of the Beta phase for sooo long!! This is really great! xDAvatar ImageWON_TWO says: I am sorry to say that as a beta tester I found / find the whole thing to be rather "meh"... I was expecting a lot more than I got... Well, at least it's free!Avatar Image1HarryPotterFan123 says: I know all the BETA testers hate it, but OHMYROWLING I'M SO EXCITED!!!♥ When I first head it, I started crying!!! I Can't wait!Avatar ImageRsheppard says: Finally! Those who didn't get a chance to sign up in Beta mode get an opportunity. For those with an account what are the pros and cons?Avatar ImageOwlKnight says: I'll try and summarize what I've talked to other Beta testers about. Each chapter in the first book (which is all we've seen) has three sections and each section is three levels deep. The first level is a far away shot then you click into to see the details. There are things to pick up and grab in each section. Some have more things than the others. The Sorting hat is fun but a lot of people didn't like where they got sorted. So, they weren't happy with their house. The first book is more like a game tutorial than detailing the book. However, some pages have potion items that will reappear (after you initially pick them up) after a week or so (I haven't gotten the timing down yet) as long as you have used yours up. For instance, there are several potion items around Hagrid's Hut that will restock as it were. The gold coins, books and frog cards only appear once. After you go through all of the chapters they have a place to play the wizard's duel and create potions for house points. The potion ingredients can be tough to handle and you have to follow the detailed instructions to the letter. Earlier this year the potions were a bit wacky and it was tough to brew them, but they have worked out the kinks and it works well now. The wizards duel was down for a long time when I first joined. When it did come back it took me a bit to get the hang of the keystrokes, but once you did you can gain points pretty fast. (Just be prepared to lose alot at first). I've been on it almost everyday since August. It's definitely not an xbox game, but I think it's pretty cool for a free sight. I can't wait for the next book.Avatar Imageroonwit says: #1HarryPotterFan123[ROAR!]: Beta readers don't all hate it, but at the same time you shouldn't expect too much, as I think a lot of disappointment with the site is due to unfulfilled expectations. There are book moments to explore, a few Potter related things to do and new information to discover, but it isn't trying to be a video game.Avatar Imagewandmastercalum says: This is some great news but I would expect a release of the chamber of secrets by then!Avatar Imagehewy says: What about those of us who signed up to be on a mailing list??? Will they send us notifications or do we have to sign up all over again?? Does anyone have a clue? Have been waiting quite a while for this and do not wish to miss out.Avatar Imageroonwit says: hewy: I imagine they will send out notifications to those who registered their interest, but I think they will wait until they are ready to announce the go-live date and what the sign-up procedure will be.
