Orphan Gene Named Harry Potter

The Financial Times reports that scientist have named an orphan gene Harry Potter, in keeping with the tradition of naming orphan genes after famous orphans. The gene, "plays a key role in regulating the onset of puberty, one of the great mysteries of human biology".

Fans of Comedy Central's The Daily Show, might have caught a quick Harry Potter reference on Tuesday, October 21st. During a story on illusionist, David Blaine's emergence from the glass box he locked himself in for 44 days, host Jon Stewart said,

Witch Gets Grant for Business

Norwegian Lena Skarning received a grant to run a business of potions, fortune-telling and magic. She says the Harry Potter books may have made people more tolerant of sorcery, and refers to herself as "Norway's only state-backed witch."

Rupert's and Emma's Works in Charity Art Auction

Rupert Grint and Emma Watson each donated an original painting to be auctioned by Kith & Kids, a group that helps children with disabilities. Although the main event on October 9th raised over £22,000, some paintings are still available - have a look!

Regarding our earlier post, iTunes for Windows was released this week by Apple so whether you have the built-in version with OS X, or have Windows XP/Windows 2000 you can use it to buy your own, legal copy of Hedwig's Theme from Prisoner of Azkaban for only $0.99.
