Growing up with a growing threat!

August 05, 2008, 07:26 AM

Hello again!

Today I am sitting in my dad's hotel room, on his extremley slow laptop, ready to write another blog, so here goes...

Growing up in the 60's/70's in Britain probably didn't seem like the most strenuous task someone can undertake, my own parents did it! :D. But, it seems that growing up in wizarding Britain was a different matter all together!

I was trying to work out exactly how the younger generation of this time would have been affected by the ever growing threat of Voldemort and his allies and would the perspectives of people change as the his power escalated. I feel that many young people, such as Bellatrix, Severus and Lucius would have been drawn in to the ideals behind Voldemort's power and made choices that they may have never chose if the climate of fear and excitement wasn't so strong. Maybe, many Slytherins were pressurised into joining the Death Eaters, even if they didn't truly believe in Voldemort's ideals because the stronger, more innfluenceal pupils were pushing others into joining after school. I've always thought that this might be he case as it is fundamentally impossible to have a quarter of a school classed as "evil".

However, this theory can work the other way round. People who were brought up in staunchly strict Pure-Blood backgrounds such as Sirius might start to notice what this Muggle-Born predjudice can do, and me more strongly against the rule of the Pure Bloods than ever before. As well as this, we have to take in account the fact that Sirius had always deliberatley tried to defy his parents; but perhaps part of this desire to be the black sheep (excuse the pun) was from him noticing what was happening to muggles and muggle borns. So in this way, many of the young witches and wizards perhaps were more eager than ever to join organisations like the Aurors or the Order of the Phoenix to make sure that they could put and end to their dangers.

Many of them, I'm sure, were still raised as though the danger was on their doorsteps; not being allowed out at night or to wander around alone. Quite like how it was in the Half-Blood Prince; with disappearances, random deaths and people knowing who is behind it but not knowing what to do.

If you have ideas on this matter, please comment and/or send me an email on it. I'll just leave with some questions; 1.Do you think that the growing tension cause stronger house rivallry than before?

2.If you agree with my idea about Pupils being pressurised by their peirs into becoming D.E's, which of the D.E's chose to go on their own free will, and which were influenced into the role?

and finally (for my own sake); 3.Do you know when Voldemort actually came out into the open for the first time? And if so, when was it?... I'd really love to know.

I hope you enjoyed my latest blog;
*hugs*
Aggi.
P.S. Don't forget to celebrate dear old Ginny's Birthday on August 11th!
