Happy Holidays!

November 29, 2008, 11:17 AM

Did you eat a lot of Turkey?  Drown in mashed potatoes and gravy?  My family did a prime rib instead of a turkey because that's what we like but maybe next year we'll do the whole nine yards.  I dunno, that would be a lot of food for just three people.  Anyways, I just wanted to leave you with this from a musical I was in that my church put on when I was ten years old: "It's the time of year when all the lights shine and everyone says be of good cheer."Happy holidays!listening to: Christmas M...

Some Changes and News...

November 24, 2008, 01:54 AM

First of all, this blog is going to undergo some changes. I've found myself losing interest in Twilight since Breaking Dawn came out- I haven't even seen the movie yet! This blog will become more focused on writing, literature, and different book genres. I will find a way to keep it harry potter themed, do not worry! I'll be posting reviews and analyzing different books, especially in the Urban Fantasy genre (my favorite kind to read!), because that's really what Harry Potter is: an Urban Fan...

NaNoWriMo

November 17, 2008, 10:03 PM

I've been waiting for the bugs to get all worked out of the new system we're using for blogging and then November came upon us. For those of you who don't know, in November a writing challenge called NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) takes place. All participants have the entire month of November to write a 50,000 word novel. I know it sounds daunting, and if you don't write every day then it is definitely a big challenge. The goal of this challenge is to get people to just write and w...

Harry Potter as Banned Books

October 04, 2008, 04:53 AM

We've all heard the arguments and read the long articles on Leaky main. How Laura Mallory tried to get Harry Potter censored in Georgia. How people claim that HP is the work of the devil and is trying to turn children to the occult. I read those accusations, then I think back to when i first read HP. My own mother bought me the first three books in a set because she had heard from a friend of hers that the books were wonderful. Clearly my mother was not worried that I would begin to dres...

Banned Books- One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest

September 28, 2008, 08:34 PM

The one that I want to talk about is One Flew Over the cuckoos Nest. I can understand why some parents are concerned with their children reading these, but I am also of the belief that teenagers are more mature than parents give credit for. i read this in play format in my senior year of high school. It was one of the most interesting books we had read that year, and I remember my Lit. class having long discussions and Socratic Seminar's about the morality of what the Chief did. For those...

Sacrifice Part 2 - Parents

September 26, 2008, 05:59 AM

Breaking Dawn spoilers! (psst: part 1 was my guest blogger, Abbey, blogging about Snape and his sacrifices. check it out here!) Where do we begin? Parents so often sacrifice so much and their children either don't know it, don't understand it, or don't appreciate it enough and take it for given. There is so much going on that we feel is so important and that our parents can't understand. In Twilight I often felt that Bella, like most teenagers, did not fully appreciate her parents, and t...

Authors for Cystic Fibrosis

September 18, 2008, 09:41 PM

Today I'm deviating from the usual topic. I have a list of author blogs that I check regularly, and one of them is Jeaniene Frost, author of the bestselling Night Huntress series. Today she posted on her blog about Cystic Fibrosis, and how it affected her through someone very close to her. She also linked to fellow author Colleen Gleason's blog where she talks about a day in the life of her son, a child living with CF. ,br> I read both blogs and I am not afraid to admit that I was a litt...

Personality Quizzes and Apologies

September 10, 2008, 03:17 AM

How many times have I apologized now? I'm still having trouble getting into the system to blog, and for that I apologize yet again! I'm trying very hard to get in, and when I do get in sometimes the post that I type out doesn't save! Anyways, this is something that I've always wanted to start and never got around to it. I love to take quizzes and personality tests and such, because sometimes they can say so much about a person. I found this personality quiz and took it with Edward in m...

Snape Did What?

August 31, 2008, 03:44 AM

Hello everyone, Abbey, Iheartprofessorsnape here, guest posting for Candace about Snape and his sacrifices throughout the series. Professor Severus Snape was one of the most mysterious characters that this series has seen. I may be biased since he is my favorite character as well, but what he did for Harry to succeed is what this series is based on. As I'm sitting here writing this, I have so many thoughts and ideas going through my head, but the one thing that I keep coming back to is...

Apologies

August 24, 2008, 06:48 PM

I'm so sorry that I didn't blog last week like I promised. Small mishap...I cannot locate my copy of Deathly Hallows and I really would like to check a couple of facts before I post. I've also been having some minor issues with my computer but never fear, I'll get something up this week!

Movie news and fandom development!

August 17, 2008, 12:15 AM

What is up with that? I liked the idea of getting Half-Blood Prince before Twilight. It's a silly little thing but since I started reading HP before Twilight that's how I wanted to see the movies. Instead, Half-Blood Prince gets pushed back to almost a year from now, and Twilight takes it's place. I'm curious as to why Twilight has moved up into that slot. I haven't heard any reason why it's been moved up but we're getting Twilight on November 21 which is about 3 weeks earlier than antic...

The End II: Hit or Miss

August 04, 2008, 04:07 PM

For me, the last book of a series are always a hit or miss. The last book in a series is so significant. It completes the story and ties everything up in a neat bundle. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows took me a solid nine hours to read, from start to finish. I read through the night to finish it, and it was definitely worth it. Deathly Hallows was a hit. Unfortunately, Breaking Dawn was a miss. If you go one post down, the one from yesterday right after I finished the book, I sa...

The End

August 02, 2008, 04:46 PM

It's always strange to me when a series is finished. Complete. There's something just so final about the words "The End" that I don't know what to do when I read them. I definitely feel a sense of closure but also a tugging sense of loss. Is there a hole? No, but I don't know where to go from hear. I don't want to reread it so soon. After each Harry Potter book I needed some time to let it all soak in, and with Deathly Hallows I read the book straight through the night and then fell asl...
