Believe it or not, I often times express my unsolicited opinion about
current events. I know, it’s shocking, but I don’t think I ever
understood that “nice girls only say nice things” lesson my mother
tried so hard to teach me. (Sorry Mom) When my friend Sassy Monkey pointed out to me this news story I couldn’t sit on my hands and say nothing.

After the wonderful life lessons we’ve learned from Harry Potter, I am
shocked to hear that a New Bruswick school district has decided that an
acclaimed author can’t speak to a group of students. (Read the article on CBS.ca here)
Alex Snachez
Alex Sanchez (pictured here) is a critically acclaimed author who has
written many books about acceptance, love and tolerance. His books The God Box, Getting It, Rainbow Boys
and many other books teach tolerance and love for students who feel
that they don’t fit in with the rest of the high school kids. Unfortunately the New Brunswick School district got a little pressure
from parents who felt the school district should not have this
wonderful author at their district because his books taught tolerance
for students who are gay.

*Sigh*

“It is our choices, Harry, that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities.”

If you are a student in New Brunswick, I’m sorry that you are missing out on a wonderful speaker. I challenge you to check out his books from your local library and read them around your schools. Let your voices be heard.
