What a tease

One of my favorite parts of “Harry Potter Movie season” (which is what I call the time when we get bombarded with promotional images for the new movie) is the release of that movie’s teaser poster. While the release of the “Hagrid’s Hut” pictures is what gets people thinking about the new movie, the release of the teaser poster really helps start the excitement about the next movie release. From the perspective of a Gallery Guru, the teaser poster also signals a different kind of excitment. To me it means that my days are soon going to be full of article releases, website screencaps, and many image uploads, and we couldn’t be happier! This season however that didn’t happen. With just around 4 months until the release of “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” we gallery guru’s are lost! No teaser poster to upload, no trailer (teaser or otherwise) to screencap. Who knew that we’d be this excited about the new products that have been released? Without them we’d be wandering around the pages of our galleries aimlessly.

I’ve spend this extra time wondering what the teaser poster will look like when we finally see it. Of course a great quote from the movie is an important part of the poster. “You will lose everything,” which was on the “Order of the Phoenix” poster, was one of my favorite teaser poster quotes. Aside from the fact that it was released over seven months before the movie’s release, the line which the poster contained was such a powerful one. With Harry battling Voldemort face to face again, we all wondered what sacrifices he would have to make with this time around. Like the fake poster which circulated around the internet months ago, I hope that the quote on this poster will be centered around the cave scene. In particular the quote “I am not worried Harry, I am with you,” is such a powerful line in the movies, and in my oppinion perfect for the teaser poster.

Now with that decision made my thoughts moved on to what image would be on the poster. One of my favorite posters images is the letter on the “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone Stone” poster. That letter started so much for Harry, and the readers, so it was perfect that it started the movie experience for the fans. My favorite graphic in the past has to be the picture of Harry on the “Goblet of Fire” poster. The feeling of this poster is just amazing. The fog creates such a great atmosphere and opens up perfectly to draw your eyes to Harry, who looks so powerful with his wand. Perhaps like the Goblet of Fire poster, the poster promoting Half Blood Prince will feature Harry. However in my mind I see somthing similar to the book covers, such as the stone basin in the cave, or the ring Horcrux. To me these images represent the quest in this story of Harry’s road to defeat Voldemort.

What do you think of when you imagine the teaser poster? Do you imagine a scene from the cave, or somthing earlier in the movie? Do you think that we are ever going to get a teaser poster, or are we to close to the November? Let me know your thoughts! Meanwhile I’m going to go look at the few stills which WB has released for what has to be the hundreth time, and wait for the latest update on when we are going to get the trailer!
