As I watch the thousands of demonstrators protesting the ban on gay marriage in California, I can’t help but wonder: What would Dumbledore think?

Assuming of course that Dumbledore is real, and, alive, I know he’d
probably be thinking any number of things. But as our resident Champion
of Love, I know Dumbledore would NOT support a ban on gay marriage.

Most of the signs being held up by the protesters say it plainly: Make LOVE, not H8.

And then, of course, there’s the other side. There’s always another side.

The differing religions of the world do not support two men, or two women ’ who are in love ’ and want to get married.

Marriage, they claim (they
is in reference to family, friends and acquaintances I’ve talked to
about this), is a religious institution. Which is basically saying that
the Gay community can’t be religious. Which is rubbish.

It’s
not about gay or not, or Baptist or Mormon ’ it’s about basic freedoms
that, in order to be truly free, must be available to anyone, regardless of sexual orientation or religious creed.

And, sorry, slice it up any way you like, but this story’s got Harry
Potter written all over it ’ it’s really about love. Two human beings,
who are in love, should be allowed to live that love in any way they
choose. See¦.more Harry Potter themes¦.it’s also about choice.

That’s true freedom. Having a choice; a say in how you live your life.
You can’t truly be free unless you’re living your life any way you
like. And if two of my gay friends ever want to get married one day,
then they should be able to do so. And I hope they invite me to the
wedding.

And what about the economy¦? (Do you know how many fabulous weddings would have taken place in California? Income that is sorely needed at this moment in time¦?)

But how can I understand, right? I must not be a true Christian if I
believe that two men or two women should have the right to get married.
I must not have enough faith, or something.

I guess my view of
Christianity is a little bit different, perhaps. Jesus, I was taught,
was all about love, compassion, kindness, inclusion¦.love. But I am
still learning of course. I’ve had the Bible quoted at me quite often
lately¦.though I must say, I haven’t yet had trouble in finding a line
or passage that directly contradicted the line or passage being shouted
down at me.

The Bible’s really handy in that regard¦ it’s so full of contradictory viewpoints.

One thing I know for sure, though¦.?

Dumbledore would never support a ban against love.
