Everyone IS Crafty!

As a crafter I can’t tell you how many times I hear the phrase “I’d love to learn that, but I’m just not crafty!” in a month. It seems to be a mantra for people, a way to protect themselves from the inevitable failure of a failed art project. Well, folks, I’m here to tell you that everyone IS crafty. That’s right, you are…even if the only thing you’ve ever made is a lopsided paper chain in kindergarten you are crafty.
You see, craftiness is really nothing more than a physical manifestation of inspiration. Have you ever seen a color you loved and then painted a room that color? Tried something at a restaurant and loved it so much that you’ve had to work out how to make it on your own at home? Fallen in love with a plant at a home improvement store, taken it home and planted it in your garden? Well, then that means YOU have crafted something. You have seen something that moved you, that inspired you, and have found a way to craft it so that it blends in with your environment. That’s all crafting really is!
The best part about this revelation? It doesn’t have to stop there! Sure it’s daunting to look at a craft for the first time. Fear of failure is a huge obstacle for those of us known as humans; however, anyone who has taken a deep breath and taken the plunge into crafts knows that some of the best things come from supposed failures. So the next time you see something and start thinking that you wish you were crafty will you do me a favor? Stop and focus on the things that have been created around you from inspiration, rather than telling yourself you can’t do it, and then maybe….just maybe….you’ll find the confidence to take the plunge and treat yourself to a new hobby!
