size=”3″>I’m a crafter. I’m all for craftiness and making my own stuff. I often refuse to buy things because I could make them myself. However, this time, I give up!

size=”3″>Let me explain. I’ve been ogling the Beauxbâtons costume for a little while now. I just love the way they look, and being French Canadian, let’s just say I would have no problem pulling off “Ze Frrrench accent”! Then last Monday, I went to see the Harry Potter Exhibition in Toronto (which has now moved to Seattle, WA), and that set it. I want Beauxbâtons robes.

size=”3″>Now here’s the problem: I’m a terrible sewer! I can manage basic stuff and if you don’t look at the sewing lines too close, it looks OK. I made myself Ravenclaw robes, a Ravenclaw skirt and the sort of wrap dress that goes over Molly’s crocheted bell sleeves in Chamber of Secrets. However, all of those were done with a pattern, with little alterations. And the sewing lines are almost all done wrong to some extent.

size=”3″>So, rather than spending 291038204 hours ripping my hair out and crying because I can’t manage it, I decided to turn to a friend who is an awesome sewer, and kindly ask her to do the work for me. Sure, it’ll cost me much more than buying something off the rack in stores, but when exactly was the last time you saw Beauxbâtons robes in store? Yeah, that’s about the same for me!

size=”3″>What about you? Would you like to have a Gryffindor scarf but can’t knit to save your life? Are you dying to have a cool stenciled t shirt but run away from exacto knife faster than Snape when presented with a bottle of shampoo? If so, consider asking a friend who has mastered the craft medium you haven’t to do it for you. Pay her (let’s face it, most crafters are ladies!) for her time and her supplies, and voilà! You’ll have that item you wanted so badly!

size=”3″>Another thing you could consider as well (and which I decided not to go for because the time-turner I purchased last Monday seems not to be working) is swapping. You exchange what you want for something you can make but your partner can’t. That’s what I call a crafty win-win!
