After looking at his bio (and well who am I kidding him, he’s hot) I’d pick him! Can’t wait to see my other choices! You should run a poll in The Lounge about the choices and who people would choose after you’ve given us all our choices.

It’s interesting because Paterson is currently staring in a post apocolyptic drama called ‘Survivors’ which is based on a novel and 70s TV series created by the late Terry Nation, who was involved with Doctor Who back in the day and is the creator of the Daleks. Paterson is playing a sort of John Locke character and when he first meets the the female protagonist of the series in his jeep, he says she’s welcome to travel with him. Docotr audition right before my eyes. I wonder if Steven Moffat does pick him if he will write him in a similar style to Billy Shipton the DC who the Angels grabbed in ‘Blink’.
Although an intersting factor is the past companion factor that RTD has suggested in a line he cut out from the Christmas invasion where the Doctor expalin’s his more southern traits are all down to Rose, he grabbed onto her personality in the regeneration. Nick Briggs, the voice of the Daleks and Executive producer at Big Finish seems to have latched onto this idea as the companion in the current Eighth Doctor series, Lucie Millar, is a brash northern lass and that is of course the words used to describe big ears himself, the ninth doctor. So if they are running with that idea, the identity of Martha can be used to explain the colour change.
Interestin to note as well that in ‘The Next Doctor’ the other Doctor has a companion that has a name like Rose (Rosita) looks like Martha and has a gob like Donna. OMG ROSITA IS THE 11th DOCTOR IN DISGUISE!!!!!!!!
Seiously though, a theory as to how David Morrisey could yet be the 11th Doctor without realising it has cropped up. As you know when the Doctor used the Chamelon circuit to become human his Time Lord memories showed themselves up in dreams and he wrote these down in The Journal of Impossible Things. Well some have a theory that this Doctor has done the same, but istead of writing a journal, he goes all ‘Walter Mitty’ and plays out his fantasies, hence the real screwdriver being touted as a Sonic and the acurate rendition of a Cyberman’s face on that demented being.

This is quite interesting. I was devastated when David Tennant stepped down. but I would not mind Paterson Joseph as a replacement. And I definitely agree with you about skin colour not mattering. In fact, I think the change might be interesting.
Personally, though, I want (even though it will never happen) John Simm to be the next Doctor. It would be absolutely brilliant. Although… I think Simm’s just as content with being just the master:P

He’ll be an interesting choice. Will have to wait and see… but wasn;t there a rumour saying that the next Doctor (not the Christmas special, the REAL next doctor after David) has already been chosen…?

Yeah I think he would be good for the role. I am sad that Tennant is leaving, but i suppose that change is what Doctor Who is all about! I believe that David is set for the Christmas and Easter specials… and there are no new episodes in 2009, so they have plenty of time to make a good choice. I am excited to see who they pick!

Am I the only one hoping that the next Doctor will be a redhead? “Aww, I want to be ginger! I’ve never been ginger!”

I don’t mind who they pick, as much as I will miss David Tennant terribly , I have full trust int he BBC to find someone amazing. They have done it for the last 45 years, but I think this guy would indeed be intresting!

Jennifer Cannon

I would love to have Paterson Joseph as the Doctor—he would be brilliant. He’s definitely my top pick.

Since the Doctor has always been white and clean shaven it would seem a bit odd having him black or bearded, but it’s not either are a big problem. Paterson Joseph is definitely someone I could imagine as the Doctor.

Anyway, David Tennant and Christopher Eccleston were brilliant choices and I’m sure the next actor to play the role will be as well.

Although the Doctor being a woman is a bad, bad idea. Having a black dude is just looking a bit different, but having a woman would completely change the character. I could never imagine a female Doctor, no matter how good the actress.
