LEMON, try to friend me again. Someone with your user name but the wrong number tried to friend me. When I went to friend you and tried to send the request it told me you had already tried to friend me and I should just accept your request. So I think the program sent me a request from the wrong SnitchHallow.
WON, so you still haven’t made it in. I would tell you to be careful when you do get in but I have the feeling I would have had to have lied on the tests to have avoided what happened to me.
Well, the holidays are over, school bags are ready and waiting, and I think I have remembered everything, lol! I have enjoyed our summer very much.
The kids were less than impressed that they had a dentist check up on the last day of the holidays!! Fortunately, both sets of teeth are fine, though the dentist comfirmed what I’ve known since daughter’s front teeth started to grow in……..she’s going to need fairly extensive orthodontic work in the future.
I have accepted both Pottermore friend requests, thankyou very much!
On the subject of Pottermore, I am more and more sceptical about the Sorting. I know it was hyped as the most accurate test ever, but the very even spread of people across the houses makes me very dubious.
There is some of each house in us all, without a doubt.
Having said that, Lady Hawke, I found your post about why you might have been sorted that way very interesting, and recognise myself in some of it.
Deanie, “this too shall pass” is one of my mantras! I hope you feel better soon, and the PH backs off your desk.
Jen, I’m glad your sister was there for the first day of school. And I’m sure your nephew’s tears will not have lasted long. I hope he has an awful lot to tell you about his first day!
Graymayne, I’m sorry to hear about your friend. I hope you’ve had more positive news by now.
And congrats on the hair! I am way overdue a serious trim, but it’s something I put off and off. I do not enjoy going to the hairdresser.
HW, I hope your first day wasn’t too painful. xx
Lady Hawke You are right about my PH and her reasons for going through the files on my desk. Luckily, I have cabinets that I can lock and these fixtures have been through enough hands that between 3 of us who have been hoarding keys for years, we only found one key for each of my different locks.
The four overhead cabinets have the same lock number and use the same key. My desk drawers have a different key from my cabinets. And my old desk (where I still store some things) has yet a different key.
Since I have the only keys for my cabinets, if I want her out of my things, I can just lock them up. True, there are ways to break into the cabinets, but my desk is too exposed for her to try any of them. And she would have to suspect that I have actually hidden something before she would try.
Thank goodness she thinks I’m only as smart as she is (isn’t). Perhaps she really thinks I’m not as smart as she is. (For that to be true, I would have to have a severe case of very low IQ.) ;)
So far everyone in the office thinks that I only have personal items in my cabinets, and for the most part it is true. I do have a dictionary and an office policy manual that belong to the office in there, but since those are for me to use in the course of my job, they are semi-personal. ;)
Oops!! Hometime! ;)
Asti I hate going to the hairdresser too so I asked my DS! I knew that he would make a good and careful job of it, even though hair is not his normal medium. My therapist was astonished when I told her and very impressed with his skill, so that did his ego good:) I have been cutting his hair for over forty years and I wasn’t trained either.
My DS is making damson jam, as we call it over here. I have had a taster and it is wonderful.
CoolG Don’t hold your breath waiting for me to be sorted, I will be out most of the day tomorrow and I am going to take my time.
Deanie I’m afraid that I would have diffficulty keeping my temper if someone messed with my desk contents, my hackles are rising at the very thought.
Lady Hawk My fashion style, such as it is, is far more flamboyant than when I was in my twenties. Back then I was much more conventional and conformist.
One more trip to Pottermore then it is bedtime for me.
Who is PatronousFlight161? I know I found it but now I can’t think who it is. It is a Ravenclaw but not ASTI or JEN.
Lady Hawk It is no-one who writes here because I have made a note of everyone’s Pottermore name.
This was meant to be an early night but Diagon Alley is such a wonderfulplace! My wand is ebony with unicorn core, 141/2 inches, slightly swishy. My avatar is a white cat.
Now I’m off to bed.
Will some of you, especially the younger ones, like the LEMON kids, HW, FELIPE, PB, AVA “friend” my daughter? She needs someone to duel with, etc.
She is ThornGlow163.
If you send her a friend request let me know so I can look for it. I am not allowing her to friend anyone I don’t know.
I remember who PatronusFlight61 is. She is the daughter of the lady who I friended on FB before LeakyCon.
My nephew called when he got home from school to tell me that he ended up having a good day and that he likes first grade. :) He also said that they ran out of time so only four people got to talk about their books, but he thinks he’ll be able to tomorrow. :) My sorting story about him was that he’d been asking about the houses leading up to the chapter (in part because before we’d ever even started reading, I’d worn my Threadless “House Brawl” t-shirt (http://www.threadless.com/product/2559/House_Brawl for those who haven’t seen it) before and he’d wanted to know what it meant.), so when we got to the Sorting Hat’s song, I told him this was where we’d learn a little bit about each house and he could see which one he throught he’d be in. After I’d read the whole song through once, I went back to go over each house slowly to see what he thought. When I read the Gryffindor description and asked if he thought it sounded like him, he said, “No, definitely not!” and for Hufflepuff he said, “A little bit, but not really; I’m kinda a little lazy.” ! LOL – what the heck does a six-year-old know about being lazy? He cracks me up. When I got to Ravenclaw, he said, “Yeah, I think that’s me; I like to learn stuff,” but then I re-read Slytherin and he said, “No wait, I must be Slytherin – I always need to get my own way.” And his final decision was Slytherin. But then as the sorting progressed and Harry thought the Slytherins looked like an “unpleasant lot” and Draco got sorted there, my nephew said, “You know, I think maybe I am really a Ravenclaw.” I found it very interesting that just based on the Sorting Hat song, he had felt he belonged in Slytherin, but changed his mind after only a couple of pages of seeing things from Harry’s perspective. It’ll be interesting to see if he ends up changing his mind some more as we continue reading. :)
LH, your discussion of your Slytherin preferences made me think of something, sort of a nature vs nurture thing. You mention that some of your preferences may have leaned your sorting toward Slytherin even though your behavior isn’t the same as your preferences. But with kids being sorted so young, it seems like it could be possible that you could take a child who maybe has preferences for Slytherinish stuff, like you say you have, and put them into Slytherin with kids who not only have the preferences, but also the behavior, and over time, that child who might otherwise not have exhibited the Slytherinish behavior would learn to do so. Perhaps if you’d been at Hogwarts as a kid and placed into Slytherin, that rebellious part of you would have blossomed.
I haven’t done anything with friend requests yet, though I’ve gotten some emails letting me know I have some waiting. I actually haven’t had a chance to go back in since doing my sorting the other night. I want to wait until I can really take time to go through it more closely. I wound up rushing the other night so I could get to the sorting, so once I do get back in there, I’m going to head back to the beginning and make sure I look at everything.
Howdy-do, my lovelies!
September’s going to be ridiculously busy, and most likely the first half of October as well, so I just wanted to drop by and tell you all that I won’t be around ’til October. Stay safe, everyone!
Love and kisses.
Today is the kids’ first day back at school. I’m up, most unusually, despite getting only about two hours of sleep, if that. This turned out to be fortuitous as LP was still abed and woke with a start when I charged into her room, more than half-an-hour past the time she intended to get up. She is weepy and out of sorts, having also had a very difficult time getting to sleep.
We’re all still on our summer schedules here, though I’ve been after everyone (except myself) to try to change their sleep-time for the last several weeks. sigh
Most unusually of all, the boy was up, had already eaten and made his lunch, and is now getting dressed. I know better than to believe this will hold without prompting and nagging for the whole year, but at least one of the two is truly conscious. I’m not particularly conscious myself and will have to fight my inclination to head back to bed once I get them to school. Or not. Maybe just being up is enough for the first day and I can take the week to get rolling with my own new schedule… ? LOL
Jen your nephew is too, too cute, I love hearing about him going through the books. His Sorting questions/opinions are so interesting. I’m glad he likes 1st grade so far! How is your sister today?
LH I think my page says we’re friended, but I will try to remember to double check it. I finished book one the other night, so probably won’t be back over there for a bit. I did send a request to LittleHawke but since dueling is down (and not something I will probably participate in much) I may not do her much good.
Have a good day, everyone, and if you think of it, send a couple spells/prayers/what have you LP and LC’s way for a good school year, especially LC. I’m hoping so hard that there is no repeat of the bullying problems he’s had in the past. He’s fairly stressed about that right now. Thanks. :)
Quick post from my phone to give a heads up… a bunch of the Leaky staffers were posting on Twitter last night about changes to Leaky: if you access the site by going to www.leakynews.com you get a holding page with a question mark and the message “Something Leaky this way comes”. It sounds like the site redesign is on the horizon. Figured I’d mention it so we can be prepared for the possibility that whenever they do launch the changes, it’s possible that they’ll do away with the poll since they’re not really using it anyway. Hopefully that won’t be the case; we’ll see!
LEMON, after I went back the next time the number on the SnitchHallow friend request had switched to your number. So, it must have reset itself.
JEN, maybe we should make a valient last minute switch to the new poll.
Some of us have been popping in there all along. (Best nose in the air pose, trying not to giggle.) ;)
I may not make it back here until tonight or tomorrow. ;)
I went over and posted just to be posting. I had to pick up my medicine this morning since I didn’t do it yesterday. Got new batteries for the keypad on my door but I still couldn’t program it. Wonder if there is another battery somewhere? I will have Jennifer look to see if she can tell when she gets back. It looked like it already had new batteries in it so I didn’t throw them away in case they were. I might have tried it before and forgot about it. I think I found the instructions for the pad and put them away for later. It should tell me if there are any more batteires instead of the obvious.
Jennifer is on her way back. She is now a divorced lady. I am just glad that she will now be able to start over without anything from her previous marriage getting in the way. It was such a shock to her at first but as time has gone by and she has been so busy trying to get ready to move, that it has helped her get over the shock. I am just surprised that it was able to be done so quickly. It probably helped that he was gone so much over the road that she was not use to him being home everyday.
No email again today. I guess they have already sent out what they were going to for this week. I will probably get mine by September 30th. Lol
Graymayne Congratulations on getting into your house. Were you a Hufflepuff before? I can’t remember. I was thinking you were Ravenclaw. At this point, I will settle for any house.
Cool G Heck of a finish to the race yesterday. Jeff Gordon now has 85 career wins, seems like only a short while since was a rookie.
I am relieved to report that the first day back at school went well. They were both bubbling over with news when I got home.
Son had a slight hiccup with his timetable………he’d been put in a GCSE Art class instead of the GCSE History he’d chosen. This could have been a major disaster, (the only person more likely to fail spectacularly in an Art class than my son, is me, lol!) but all was resolved easily.
CoolG, I am glad Jennifer is ok. You’ve both been through a lot of changes in the last few months, I’m glad you are able to be together.
Graymayne, congratulations on getting Hufflepuff!
I told my DS about your haircut. He went a bit pale. I wouldn’t let him within 20 miles of my hair with a pair of scissors, lol! I trimmed the kids hair when they were toddlers, but I would never attempt it now. You must post a picture.
Lemon, my very very best wishes and love to your kids on their first day of school. I was so relieved our own first day went well………….the new school year is always a bit daunting, for kids and parents alike. I hope they both have really positive days, and DEFINITELY no repeat of the bullying. xx
Ava, I hope it’s all good busy stuff that will be keeping you away. See you soon!
Jen, your nephew is a real little treasure. I love the way he’s thinking himself into Harry’s world, and really getting the book. You’re doing so well just to let him take his own time, and I think all his questions and responses are wonderful. I’m so pleased the first day of school went well. Your sister must be relieved!
CoolG Yes, I was previously sorted into Hufflepuff by another site and initially felt disappointed, but after some serious thought I realised that Hufflepuff is right for me. I had been really rattled by the thought of going into any other house.
BWJen Your nephew’s comments were really interesting. I have almost no contact with children so I’m not up to date with the 21st century child but I would not have thought that so young a child could make character judgments in that way.
We had an excellent chattering session today over lunch today and they enjoyed their food so much more than they did at a really posh hotel where they had spent the weekend. Looking back I realise that a disproportionate amount of time was spent on health topics, but I suppose that when you reach 65 and over these factors tend to loom rather large in your life. My DS took some photos but the lighting conditions weren’t ideal and the weather was quite overcast. I’ll tackle those on CC tomorrow.
