Graymayne, if you buy it, let me know what you think.
Won, we’re paying getting on for double that!
Won, whoops, wrong poll and wrong person! Lemon commented that you’re paying $5 a gallon. I think we’re paying the equlvalent of about $9.5.
Morning all!
Congratulations to LittleHawke! You certainly have lots to be a proud mommy about, LH, that’s wonderful! Give her lots of hugs for me. I hope you guys get to do something to celebrate her wonderful achievement.
I’m taking just a quick break in between exercises. My heels are KILLING me today. I tried to speed up just a little on the treadmill last night and boy, am I feeling it now. It feels like they are both deeply bruised, which really peeves me given I have been walking now for six months. A small increase in speed should NOT have such a big effect. sigh Anyway, that DS is also home from work today, so I am having a very hard time getting anything done, though it is nice to have the company. I hope you all are having a great Friday and I will check back later.
Afternoon, everyone!
Asti that’s incredible, I think our country would implode if we had to pay that much for gas. I seem to recall reading somewhere something about what the reason was for Europe and other parts of the world paying so much more than we do, but I can’t remember what it was now. All I know is if it stays at $5 a gallon for very long I’m going to have to sell the car. LD is already talking about taking the bus to school instead of driving, which would be a lot cheaper but I don’t think is practical. It would take her over three hours round trip due to the bus schedules, even though her school is only ten miles away, and that’s not taking into account the walking time to and from the stop, the extremely early hour she’d have to catch it in the mornings, or her work schedule at several various places since she’s now holding three, or really four, jobs. I don’t think she can do it.
I think I’m going to have to take today off from the treadmill instead of tomorrow, as I usually plan. I’ve done everything else, but my heels are KILLING me. Hopefully one day off will be enough to heal up so I can walk tomorrow instead, the treadmill burns by far the most calories of everything I’m doing. I am not a happy girl right now. :(
To top it off, the DS decided to make spaghetti and garlic bread for dinner. Yay for him cooking, but that is a high carb, high calorie meal, and one I have a hard time resisting. I canceled our usual Friday night pizza run in order to keep the calories low. I think we should have gone for that instead. sigh
On the bright side, we’re probably going to a movie tonight for the first time in quite a while. There has been nothing good out at all, it seems, but there are several things to choose from now. Summer is finally coming! I really want to see Thor, but he doesn’t sound into it, so I’ll have to take a gander at the other choices. Tomorrow is my Seattle meeting, so I can’t stay up too late, though. I have to leave pretty early for that. Ugh.
Have a good night, everyone!
The Snape snippets were the highlight of the trailer by far
Morning all! We have grey skies and fine rain, very novel. I have just observed from my eyrie a large number of mourners attending, I think, a memorial service, I saw no hearse. The very striking thing was the uniformity of the colours worn by said mourners: with very few exceptions they wore black and white or black and cream and one or two wore black and taupe. I am guessing that the deceased was probably in their thirties or early forties, judging by the few elderly people in attendance. My curiosity is aroused. We don’t take the evening paper any more so I can’t search the appropriate announcements section.
Lady Hawke I don’t quite understand the circumstances but I am delighted by your daughter’s achievements. You can take full credit for your large part in this, your home support is unfailing. Go Hawkes!!
Asti Will do.
Sirius, have you been able to see the trailer yet? There’s a news post on the home page here with a number of links to it if you’re still looking. (The article is down towards the bottom of the page, or possibly onto the next page, depending on when you read this…it was from April 27, when the trailer was released.)
Yesterday was the first real nice weather day of this year: 75(23.88C) and sunny. Spent most
of it outside in the sun.
I CAN’T believe I didn’t make page 1.
kicking furniture
Congratulations Graymayne!!
(She didn’t even know. :( )
JEN, I think SIRIUS has actually seen the trailer. He just doesn’t see it in the same way the rest of us who are at any level of okay with it see it. I think you could say he fairly significantly detests it. When he says he hasn’t seen the trailer we’ve seen he means he hasn’t seen a trailer he likes at all.
MM, good to see you back on both polls. It is so sad when you go missing. The other person who is obviously absent and I find it worriesome is COOLG.
My mother insisted I have my bike worked on so I could ride with my daughter so I took it on Thursday and had it repaired. Then I worried all night Thursday night and last night about whether I could ride it or not. I kept having visions of falling off and hurting myself.
Yesterday morning I was telling my mother I was worried and she told me there would be no problem because she had ridden bikes up through highschool and then did not ride again until she was on her honeymoon. I told her, “But mama, remember you rode through highschool and then your honeymoon was less than 10 years later when you were 27. I rode through highschool but it has been over thirty years since I graduated from highschool.” There was silence on the other end of the phone.
Yesterday afternoon I called her to tell her I had picked up the bike and she started telling me not to hurt myself. I said to her, “Mama, I can’t believe it. You insisted I have this bike repaired so I could ride it and just this morning you were telling me it would be no problem and now you are telling me to be careful and not hurt myself.” She said, “You shocked me this morning. I still think you are 27 and when you told me how old you are it shocked me.”
Well, I have just called my mother to tell her I was able to get on the bike and start peddling and now I have completed a circuit of the neighborhood, the route I usually walk while my child peddles. I could still ride, right off, and I made it!
hellooooooooo Leaky! Wow, a new poll! I haven’t seen any of the trailers but I have to say the “mother” option is what makes me so curious about it. And I’m glad it sounds like there’s a decent amt of Snape in it! Last year I purposefully avoided the traileres and pics, except what was on TV, and I think it helped me enjoy the movie a lot more. I was a lot busier then, though, so we’ll see if I have the same resolve this year!!
LH yay for getting back on your bike and making it around the neighborhood!
I picked “Something Else” The “Swan Dive” made me crack up. So scratch that. Molly Weasley vs Bellatrix is pretty cool. Knights aren’t a big deal. Fred dead made me have tears in my eyes. But I have to say my favorite part is all of the Snape scenes.
GRAYMAYNE, she has just been taking online practice tests before taking the state standardized testing which will occur next week. There is immediate gratification on the scoring. The tests give you the results and your ranking against everyone else who has taken the test immediately. She has managed to score highest score in the state on three of the online practice tests. The practice tests are on very specific skills necessary to be proficient in language, reading and math. So, there are many, many of them to cover various skills but she has managed a first in the State of Mississippi on three of them.
LH, Cool G posted this weekends racing schedules on her NASCAR group on Leaky. It is a rather large 2 part posting, so I assume she is ok…
I wish COOLG would write herself a post it and stick it on her computer to remind her to post here.
I’m watching the Kentucky Derby while my DS and daughter go see Thor.
LOL, thanks, LH, I get it (Sirius’s comment) now…that went completely over my head before! :)
I’d love to get back to bike riding; I also haven’t done it since high school. The closest thing has been the stationary bike at the gym…and that has taught me that I would now need to invest in some type of extra padded seat cushion; I always walk away feeling I have a bruised bottom!
Hi Huff!
I saw an email confirmation this afternoon which appears to indicate my DS has ordered a padded bike seat for me as well as a helmet and new handlebar grips. I realized after I was far from home today that I was not wearing a helmet. We never wore a helmet in the “olden days” and I don’t know that I will like to wear one now. Left to myself I might not have ordered myself a helmet although I know they are most likely a good idea.
Yes, HUFF, Snape’s more complete story is definitely something I am looking forward to. I don’t think there has ever been such a unlovable character in a book that I have grown to have such affection for.
Oh yeah; I probably wouldn’t have thought of a helmet for myself either. I always make my nephew wear his when he’s riding his bike, but I never really thought of the fact that I’d need one if I do end up getting a bike. Definitely safer, but I’ve never worn one before! Actually, they might even be mandatory by law here…I can’t remember if that’s just for kids or if it’s for everyone.
HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY TO ALL THE MOM’S.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, LAURA!!
HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY. Thank you, Ironsos:)
Lady Hawke and BWJen Do you remember I had a fall in a cinema a couple of years ago? I hit my head against the flat wooden back of a seat and for several weeks afterwards my head didn’t feel right. I would definitely recommend wearing a cycling helmet because if you fell at speed the impact would be greater than my experience. When I broke my left arm half way between the elbow and shoulder my motorcyle had simply toppled over at the end of a skid, I also hit my head but I was wearing a full-face helmet and no damage was done.
Hi, everyone! Thanks, Ironsos! Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms and Happy Birthday to MasterLEW!
I’m pretty sure bike helmets are the law here now, I know they were in CA before we moved away. I’ve never ridden with one myself, either, but my kids always have. They don’t know anything different. Definitely a good idea! :)
W just got back from seeing Something Borrowed. I won’t give my opinion since I know several of you are going to see it (have you all read the book? I hadn’t), but I was EXTREMELY happy to see OUR TRAILER in front of it, completely by surprise, which was a very nice surprise, especially as I’d just been very vocally complaining about it not being out in front of Thor or anything else.
Although, funnily enough, I don’t actually care for this trailer very much. I normally watch them over and over obsessively as soon as they come out, as you all know, but I haven’t watched this one since it aired because I just don’t care for it. I think it’s cut poorly, the images flash by too fast and there’s no real emotion in it, except for the couple things they showed that they shouldn’t have yet, IMO. I’m upset that they showed some of them because they are big emotional moments and I hate that they will be blunted by having been seen already, but it still made me happy just to see it and get that confirmation that YES IT IS COMING! I’ve had this niggling fear in the back of my mind with no viable trailer in the theaters confirming the release that OMG what if they changed it again? What if they’re having trouble with the 3D (which I so wish they would drop anyway! Ugh. Seeing Thor in 3D reminded me again how much I HATE those stupid glasses and it really doesn’t add anything good to the film, it just gives me a headache and makes it harder to focus), or whatever, but there it was on the screen with the correct release date, so it was at least reassuring.
And with that, I am off to bed! Hope you all have a lovely Sunday and Mother’s Day!
:)
We are all still fine here. Since we had not thought to make reservations for this morning we celebrated Mother’s Day last night. There is no sign of flooding anywhere near either of the grandparent’s homes at this point. The Mississippi River is meant to crest on Tuesday and then sit there at record levels for many days. We will get to see if the levees that were built following the record flooding in 1937 will hold. There are areas that have flooded and people are being evacuated to shelters but so far the flooding has not impacted anyone I know or at least I have not been made aware of it.
The first thing I saw on the TV this morning was a network news channel with a reporter standing in front of a flooded neighborhood. It is sobering. Areas that are in imminent risk of flooding or already flooded are closed to all but residents.
Hello Everybody!!! Happy Sunday to Everybody!!!!! and A HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY TO ALL MOMS!!!!!
Hi MISTIC, Happy Mother’s Day to you!
I’m still posting on both polls, I can’t seem to figure out where we are yet. I’ve put up two or three big posts over there and then I come here and find the conversation going merrily along here, although dreadfully slowly.
Happy Mother’s Day to the moms!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY MINXIE!!!
Why would our favorite part be a dead Fred? Dx
krystalkris, I sort of wondered that myself.
Won_Two: This may help.
