Good evening everyone.

I have had such a busy day at work, it was insane.

I’ve had a good soak in the bath, and am feeling tolerably human again.

I still cannot do anything on the Leaky main page. As soon as I try to go anywhere I get the page with the wierd message that some of us were having problems with yesterday. Fortunately, I’d changed to text only last night on Won’s(?) suggestion, and got in through history. Does anyone know what it is? I was hoping it would be gone today. It’s very annoying. And worrying. I tend to panic if I can’t get into Leaky!!

Graymayne, it’s nice to see your poppy again. And your avatar, Won. I havn’t even attempted to change mine, Leaky would probably make my computer explode if I tried. We will have the two minutes silence at work tomorrow. Everything stops, even the tills.

Lady Hawke, I hope the house painting is going well, and very pleased to hear your daughter is better. Those symptoms musyt have been very alarming.

Off to reheat last night’s leftovers. Back soon!

evening all

won sorry to hear you havent been well – do you want elmo to come over and play at being a nurse.

I’m currently using my neices laptop as I have another fault on my work laptop. It hasnt functioned since Thursday and after spending 4 hours yesterday on the phone with the IT team it seems that my operating system needs reloading. IT told me I would have to wait 8-10 days while they order a new disk and send it to me. After laughing hysterically for 10 minutes and pointing out that I’m currently running a multimillion pound programme over 2 countries and need a laptop ASAP I went to my boss, had a bit of a meltdown and he scurried off to order me a new one. Soooooo I’ve been slightly stressed because I have work piling up and no laptop. The client has been p’d off because I lost 3 days work last month when my screen had to be replaced and now I havent been able to work for 2 days because of the operating system- its been a fab week :-). Unfortunately my company dont have loan laptops and I dont have my own personal computer, so in order to actually get some work done I’ve had to borrow my neices laptop that she got for her birthday (luckily she didnt mind lending it to me) – Now i have to work for most of the weekend to make up for lost time . . . . stupid IT department.

Happy belated Guy Fawkes to asti and graymayne

Wolfie, it’s good to see you! It’s incredible your company doesn’t have back up laptops! I’m sorry you’re going to have a stressy weekend. I’m having one too, but at least my stress doesn’t involve two countries and many millions. Yay for your neice for helping you out. How is the baby?

hey asti boo for stressful weekends. The problem is that you go back to work on Monday and feel like you havent had a break. My company outsource their IT and they provide an incredibly poor service – my call was classed as top priority, but it took them 48 hours to get back to me, then they closed down the job number 3 times, so I had to keep calling them to re-open it (otherwise they wouldnt have responded at all). They seemed to think that 8-10 days without a laptop was perfectly acceptable. The IT guy told me that they have lots of people in my position who havent got access to a laptop so why should I think that I would be pushed to the top of the list. The problem is that without a laptop I really cant do anything. I can answer emails on my blackberry, but I cant do any real work – as its all computer based. I literally lose the company nearly a £1000 for every day that I dont work. The problem is that the £1000 is lost by my department and doesnt impact on the IT budget.

My nephew is fab – I saw him earlier today as I popped out to meadowhall for lunch to meet my sister and to try and find a wedding outfit for my friends wedding next Sunday. I didnt have any success so am going to have to use my fallback dress.

My nephew is 4 months old now can you believe it!!!!!! and he’s a big round chunky ball – he’s so cute and he laughs all the time. I’ve never seen a baby with such a pleasant personality. I want him to come and live with me, but my sister refuses to give him up.

How are things with you (apart from the busy job?)

Wolfie, I would faint without my laptop, and I only use it for fun. My DS’s company runs a far more efficient service than your IT guys. Do you want the phone number??!

Lol about the fallback dress. I have one too, and I’m never too disappointed if I can’t find a new one as I adore the fallback!

Your nephew sounds delicious, sorry your sister seems so attached to him! I’m glad you found someone to make his Christmas present.

I have to go to bed. Overtime tomorrow! It was very nice to see you, I hope you don’t have to do too much work tomorrow.

Goodnight all. xxxxx

Wotcher Ya’ll

I’ll be whurking

some IT dept Wolfie – but their attitude is pretty much that same as all IT depts I’ve ever worked with even the ones that were a part of my company – "We’ll get to you when we can" I am ammazed your company doesn’t have a few backup laptops with all the systems and programs on it that any of you’d use, just in case things like this happen – then yours could sit and wait for ten days while you use the back up. Seems the cost of a few back ups would not be near the 1000 pounds …

sirius dont even go there about the cost – I’ve had the same argument over and over again. In fact it’d be cheaper if they just let me go to PC world and buy a low cost laptop to tide me over.

asti I bet your DS company is better – I wish we could deal with local companies as you get a more personal service. Our company has a global contract with HP and the contract is so large they dont really care about any of their individual customers.

I did nearly faint when my laptop finally died – I had about an hour of desperate panic where I just didnt know what to do. All I could see where the 6 or 7 massive deadlines that I have to meet over the next week and no way of meeting them. Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately) my boss called me while I was in the middle of having a meltdown and as he’s never seen me display the slightest bit of stress before, he jumped into action straight away and insisted I get a new laptop :-)

Wolfie Do you mean Meadowhall as in the big shopping mall in Sheffield, just off the M1? I’ve been there just once and found it rather interesting. I remember seeing a shop in the Lanes selling jewellery made of Blue John in gold or silver settings.

Lady Hawke Blue John is a semi-precious stone found only in Derbyshire. When I visited the Sistine Chapel in Rome I saw a huge vase made from this material on display. There is information on line about it, but the photography is pretty useless.

I’ll be lurking for a short while.

Won_Two I hope you had a wonderful time in the Riley today.

I quite expected a noisy evening full of firework bangs, but there were only two brief outbursts. What a relief.

graymayne my neighbours had a firework display earlier, which was very nice.

yep thats that Meadowhall I went to – it was absolutely packed though. I suppose people where out christmas shopping. I didnt really have a lot of time to look around as I was rushing from clothes shop to clothes shop. Have you been to the Blue John Mine near Castelton?

PB save the text books, you might need them for college :-)

It took FOREVER to tape all the windows on the garage door and the windows down each side of the front door and then I had to frame all the woodwork in tape to keep the paint off the brick.

We managed to put one coat of primer on the garage door, the ceiling of the front porch, the columns, and the window framing on either side of the front door. And all over ourselves and the ground.

I’m sitting here with primer all over my hands.

Tomorrow we will put at least one coat of paint on top of the primer. I would SO LIKE one coat to be enough.

I was telling Asti the paint job on this house is HORRENDOUS. There was a wife, husband, wife’s boyfriend and child who lived here before us, sometimes ALL AT ONCE. The neighbors were scandalized. Before they people left, just walked away from the house, they did a lot of damage to the interior and did a deliberately nasty job painting the outside. Not only was the paint job sloppy, painting outside the lines and across windows, the paint colors were not socially acceptable.

We had originally thought we could power wash it off and then found out that if we used enough power to wash it off we would be doing damage to the brick. Then we couldn’t decide what colors to change it to. My DS didn’t think it mattered if we made it worse before we made it better. I wanted to choose a color scheme that would make the house look better as we systematically changed it bit by bit.

Today we covered the worst of it, smeary burnt orange paint on the garage door, front porch and front door area that looked like a child had been finger painting in it. It is going from burnt orange to a sort of coffee with LOTS of cream color. The house is now muddy green with bits of pink brick showing through but will be a darker coffee with cream. The coining and woodwork will be cream and the front door and shutters will be dark cinnamon.

For now I’m relieved to have committed to a color scheme and to have committed to getting rid of the smeary burnt orange.

I think we are going to play cards for a bit, if we can stay upright. We are TIRED.

Wolfie No I haven’t been to the Blue John mine, but I remember my sister did. I went down one cavern on a school trip but I don’t remember the name. We travelled by boat in this gloomy place and arrived at a spot where the roof of the cavern was not visible with the torch beam. I was not impressed. I have just spent about an hour on line looking at pictures of Blue John and various items that cropped up along the way. The time that can be lost just surfing is amazing.

Off to bed, it is after 1.0am

Just wanted to say thank you to those of you who came to my defense last night. I disagree with MM She does not need to be banned… I am really rather sorry for her… She obviously is one of those unfortunate people who are so locked into their little worlds that they become blinded to the opinions of others… She views us all as "mean" people… Well, all I can say is if she ever really meets "mean" people, she is going to soil her pants!
