WON, I’m sorry your power didn’t hold out longer. That makes it sound like a big transformer or something was taken out for the whole area. That is not promising.

Gov O’malley was just on broadcast tv… He said there are somewhat more than 25,000 reported outages in MD right now. There were under 5,000 when I got up around 7am, so something went Ka-Pow!!!!

One of our posters lives about 25 due east of Atlantic City, NJ. She lives in an area with a good size river and wildlife management area that dumps into Delaware Bay. She seems to think she is going to be fine. It worries me.

We have also not heard from JEN although several of us have posted to her on Facebook. I want to know where she is riding this out.

Good evening!

Daughter slept in until 9.30 this morning! This is a new record, lol!

I cooked a lovely new recipe tonight. A sort of chicken minestrone with courgette, peas, orzo pasta and pesto. It was delicious, really light and fresh.

I am getting really alarmed about this storm. I can’t imagine what it must be lie to be ordered to evacuate your home. Won, I am glad you are prepared, and do hope the power isn’t out too long.

Hello, LEW!

Guys

Just wanted to check if anyone else is doing NaNo this year? I’ve signed up and am hoping to win this time . . .managed 30,000 words last year. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that no pesky work issues get in the way

I want to cry – its 10pm and I have to be up at 5am and I just realised that I have a piece of work that I need to get out by first thing tommorow and I forgot about it. I’m going to have to do it now .. .why am I so stoopid!!!!!!! (as always ironsos/Sirius/Lew that was a rhetorical question . . you don’t need to answer it)

I’ve been glued to the US TV stations for the last hour. The BBC is giving Sandy plenty of coverage too.

Lady Hawke I have been wondering about Jen too:(

Won_Two I hope that all your preparations keep you safe and well.

hahahaha ironsos sorry I ruined you night . . .you could have had a great time making fun of me too

I’ve finished my work and sent it off and have 4 hours and 49 minutes to get some sleep – I feel that my poor colleague who is working with me tommorow is going to have a fun day having to listen to grumpy old miserable me . .I’m not a barrel of laughs when I’m tired and have to get up early in the morning.

I’ll be back later this week, everyone stay safe . . .and if anyone needs to evacuate to the UK where we dont have earthquakes OR superstorms then my spare room is ready to go.

GRAYMAYNE, JEN finally responded on Facebook that she is home and doing okay so far. Her lights have gone off for as much as 10 seconds twice but otherwise they have just been flickering all day. School is cancelled so she doesn’t have to go anywhere.

WOLFIE, I hope you can sleep. With that little time and that much pressure I would stay awake the rest of the night. I know you could have cried when you realized you had more to do.

I can’t make fun of you, Wolfie, because my to-do list keeps getting longer, and the days don’t. I actually have tonight to myself and I haven’t managed to actually start work yet. dramatic sigh

Returned from the ER. I was driven there after work today. I had a pain on my right side. It seems that I have 3 kidney tones. They did a Catscan to look for them. They sent me home with Vicodin and medication to make sure I tinkle a lot. :/

I’m in pain. :(. If I see blood in my urine, I’m supposed to go back to the ER. Grrreeat. :/

Lady Hawke I was watching CNN and I think NHK. This morning I only watched CNN as they did an early programme before sunrise in the US. The flooding in New York looked serious, I’m glad that they had closed the subways down and evacuated people from low-lying areas because the water levels broke new records. There will be plenty to see when daylight comes and for some days to come.

MM I have heard that pain from kidney stones can be excruciating:(

Poor, MM. That sounds awful and I hate Vicodin. I can’t take it. Instead of easing me it makes me panic and imagine things. They gave it to me when I broke my foot. When I took it I got it in my head my cast would crawl up my leg and smother me if I went to sleep. I could explain to you that I knew that couldn’t happen but the thought refused to let me go to sleep. I was hysterical.

Will they have to remove the kidney stones or can they give you a medication for them?

I only clicked that once…

GRAYMAYNE, I know CNN as that is one of our well known 24 hours news channels. I don’t know NHK. I looked it up. I think it is more of an international news magazine but I’ve never heard of it before now.

The only thing that bugs me about CNN is the incessant interruptions by advertising! We nearly always watch news on the BBC which doesn’t have advertising unless it is promoting its own programmes coming up in the pipeline. However, they are covering the superstorm very well and the aftermath everywhere will be huge, with all the flooding, outages, fires and storm debris.

GRAYMAYNE, CNN isn’t a government run news channel. It is a “retail” channel and must pay for its time. We have a variety of competing news channels.

I know Cordelia is without electricity and there is now a boil notice on her water.

We haven’t heard from JEN since the storm hit.

WON is currently posting on FB about unrelated things. So, he has internet service at any rate.

My power came back on 1/2 hour ago… Kudos to SMECO (Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative)! I saw NJ Gov Christie earlier telling his constituents that they will be out for at least a week & probably more! I am glad because although I got along fine on the generator, I don’t like running it continuously for days & days. It puts a lot of stress & wear on the output shaft bearing on the motor. Changing out the bearings on that motor is a BIG, BIG job… I hope everyone has fared well through this disaster!

Won, I am very relieved. And it is great to know Cordelia is ok too. I see on FB that Mistic Willow didn’t lose power, and all we need now is for Jen to check in.
It is very unusual for the tv to be on in the dining room at work, but it was today, showing Sky News footage, breaking news and updates of the storm. My goodness……

MM, ouch. Poor you. xx and hugs.

LEW, hugs for you too.

And for you, Wolfie! Getting that little amount of sleep is horrid. I did a 10 hour shift on 4 1/2 hours sleep after my DS’s works do last Christmas, and it hurt.

In fact, HUGS ALL ROUND, FOR EVERYONE! I am feeling generous, lol.

I’ve probably said this before but having people you know living in areas where disastrous weather is threatening them makes the event more real. I’m grateful that Won_Two gave his wake-up call about the impending storm because I knew that his pilot-training included weather knowledge, so I was on the lookout for news items at the outset. The human race is certainly getting some serious reminders that we are not in control of this planet, and the sooner we learn this the better.

Asti What a good idea! Here’s a group hug {{{{{{{ LEAKY FRIENDS}}}}}}}

The accounts, video and photos coming out of the northeast are appalling. Where is there for people to go while they clean that mess up and how do you begin to clean a mess like that up? I think the neighborhood that burned in its entirety bothers me the most. Who would think of that much fire in that much water?

JEN is okay. She did not lose power and spent the day out with her father and grandparents.
