I can relax now. My son-in-law brought my brother home and he is now on my bookcase. He will stay with me until he is taken to Tennessee. We had to order the urn and had it sent over night. It took a day because of the engraving.

I have my turkey ready to go in the oven in the morning.

Thanks everyone.

Hi, HUFFLEBUG, I deliberately made plans to avoid the grocery today and any recent afternoon after getting off from work time.

COOLG, I believe you said your brother wanted his ashes scattered in the Clinch River. I also think you said a particular location but I can’t remember what it was. Do you have to get any permits to scatter ashes? I used to think you could just go do it and somewhere I learned some places you have to apply to scatter ashes or they even prohibit it. I hope you have no problems doing as your brother wished.

COOLG, I found where you said Norris Dam along the Clinch River. There is a big Norris Dam which creates Norris Lake out of the Clinch River and then there is a little one called Norris Dam Fishing Point further up in the river, not all the way down to the lake. My best friend from childhood lives near there on a farm outside Blaine, TN.

Lady Hawke It is the big Norris Dam. He just wanted to be spread somewhere along the river. He actually had his picture taken where he wants to be spread. Yes there are a lot of forms that would have to be filled out in order to spread him on State Property. That is why he wants to be along the Clinch River. We went to the place when we were in Tennessee the last time together.

It is 7:40 AM and the turkey has been in the oven for two hours.

I didn’t really mean to be up that early but the girl dog had some digestive disorders last night and appeared to be having similar problems this morning. She kept coming and sticking her nose in my face and schnuffling me. When I would tell her to go away she would pace back and forth and I could hear her tags rattling. I got up and offered to let her out and she refused to go alone. So, I went back to bed and the nose in the face and pacing redoubled. I opened the door again and that time she fled outside. By that time she had kept me up so successfully I decided to go ahead and cook my sausage swirls and put the turkey in to cook.

I usually get to post blow by blow descriptions of the progress of the day but once the turkey is cooked we will be heading over to my parent’s house, the land of no internet service.

Can you believe my daughter said my cashmere sweater wasn’t current style? I thought cashmere never went out of style. At least my skinny jeans and hair style is current. Here I was thinking for an old lady I still looked pretty stylish. Lol

Good evening, and A VERY VERY HAPPY THANKSGIVING to all you lovely people in America! I hope you all have a lovely day, despite the personal sad situations of some of you. My love to you all.

No overtime for me tomorrow, work doesn’t have the money to spend this week. I am relieved in a way, I have done a lot extra this month and could do with a decent break. Things are going to get a LOT busier the next few weeks.

We are home and I have the refrigerator absolutely stuffed with food. I brought home almost all the 20lb (9.07kg) turkey we didn’t consume at the table. My mother only kept a small container for sandwiches. I have the bones and the pan drippings/broth. I also have two huge trays of veggies and dip and fruit and dip.

I only brought home one covered plate of leftovers. My DS will need to eat one night when he is not participating in my plans. My friends are in town this weekend and it is my daughter’s birthday on Saturday. There are still lots of restaurants in my future. By Monday I will have to convert those bones, drippings, and pan made broth into broth for soup. Maybe I can use some of those veggies from the tray as well. I have to compress some of this stuff down to manageable portions.

My DS and daughter are finishing a movie they started this morning. I am so ready to go to bed and go to sleep before the dog gets too far ahead of me and wakes up before I’m ready.

Happy Thanksgiving for those of you in the US!! ;)

Lady Hawke I find it very impressive that a dog who can move with the stealth of a ninja while in persuit of an unauthorized snack can make so much noise when trying to get us to wake up.

My German shepherd was not allowed to actually poke his nose in our faces or on our skin. He still managed to jingle, clank and generally make a ruckus, without vocalizing, if he decided it was time to get up. ;)

Deanie I didn’t realize you had a German shepherd dog. I just thought you had the one dog.

My brother who is out of the country called me yesterday morning. I didn’t get to talk but a minute as the connection was broken and he didn’t call back. He is suppose to be home sometime today so I expect he will call back today.

We spent an enjoyable day at my daughter’s. It is funny they spent the afternoon going over the sales adds. That is all the females. The grandsons were just interested in going out shopping with their friends. I don’t think buying was a priority. It was so funny seeing my daughters write out their list of places to go, what times, and what they expect to get at each store. This is something my DS and I would do every year. My DS would go shopping every year sometimes with me and sometimes with one of our daughters. I had a good time just listening to them.

We did stop at a store on the way home. My daughter tried to get her sons to buy this set of nail polish that was on sale. She had no luck. We were able to get it for her. Later my daughter went to Walmart and bought both of us a new Mister Coffee for $10.00. I have a cofee pot but not one that has a timer and will automatically shut off. I had been looking at coffee pots for several months trying to decide which kind I wanted to get. I really wanted one that would automatically shut off after a certain amount of time. I had almost stopped using my coffee maker because I was afraid I would forget to shut it off.

I need to bake my ham today. I got one so I could have sandwiches etc. for us to eat since we would have no Thanksgiving left overs. My daughter made a dessert she makes every year. I thought she was taking it to my daughters yesterday but I guess she forgot. We didn’t need it since I rarely eat dessert and there were plenty of cookies , candy, and pies there. I don’t bring anything but I do give her money to buy part of the meal.

I guess I will be getting a smart phone. It is time I can get a new phone again. The last time my daughter got the new phone but I told her I needed a new one this time. I hate having to pay for a data plan but I really need a phone where I can make everything bigger. It will be nice reading my email and FB from my chair instead of sitting at my desk. Everyone seems to text now and I have trouble reading the small letters to text. I wonder if I will be sitting around texting like everyone else when I get the new phone. Lol

COOLG, you will enjoy a smart phone. It is nice to just pick it up and check if you have an email or Facebook message without having to sit in front of a full size computer. After I see an email or Facebook message I may sometimes decide to pick up the laptop so I can use a full size keyboard to respond but it is nice to be able to leave home and run errands and know you are not missing an important email.

Another benefit of a smart phone is when you are away from the house and at a shop and you wish you knew something about another product and want to make a comparison or you want to call another shop and find out what they are charging for the product you can look the other place up and check their price online or call them right on the spot. You can do some of your decision making research right there on the phone in front of what you are planning to purchase.

There are times I am out and I will realize I have a question about something or my mother will ask me something and I will immediately look up the answer on the phone.

While we were planning to go to LeakyCon MM, JEN and I spent evenings texting while we watched TV. We weren’t disturbing anyone else by talking and we could still do what we were doing with our families.

Another nice thing about texting is that you can drop an instantaeous message on someone with bare bones details and not get drawn into a major conversation. You can say, “I’m going to see Breaking Dawn tomorrow at 2PM. Do you want to come?” You will receive a response, “Yes, do you want me to pick you up?” or a “I can’t. I’m going shopping with my sister.” It limits the extent of the chat if you aren’t in the mood to talk or don’t have the time to talk.

At any time you can stop responding and the person you are texting with doesn’t know whether you fell asleep, went to take a shower, someone knocked on your door, the phone rang or you are in the car driving. So, you can keep it short and sweet.

I arranged for my daughter’s friend to join us for her birthday dinner tomorrow night with an exchange of three texts without surplus conversation with the child’s mother. I did not get stuck on the phone and I was able to do it while we were sitting at the table playing dominoes and I was the only one who knew I was having a conversation with someone not in the room, much less in the house.

My adult friends and I use full sentences and punctuations when we text, just like we do here.

Lady Hawke I had the German sheperd when I was a teen and still lived with my parents. He was the dog that went to Okinawa twice because when I moved out, I left him with my parents. Dad was his favorite playmate. ;)

I suppose it is time for us to get new phones, too. The DS wants a new phone number, as well. He got on some list and gets a lot of solicitation type calls. He gave the number to a website and that authorizes all of their commercial partners, owners or subsidiaries to call. Even though it is on the “no call” list. Yuck!! ;)

I suppose I should get busy with the laundry. The Laundry Lion is spread all over the guest room and needs taming. ;)

Hello hello! I hope all the USers out there had a wonderful Thanksgiving with family and friends! To those across the pond, I hope you are comforted in the fact that at least your pants still fit today… ;)

I had a very quite, mostly relaxing day with the BF. I couldn’t convince him to do family things (I have pushed the last few weeks, so used up all my chips for the time being), so I cooked for the two of us. I was a little bummed because I wanted to be around family, even if it wasn’t mine, but it turned out to be a really nice day. Even if it did mean I had to do all the cooking. But the food was delicious and I was able to spread out most of the cooking through the day – one push in the morning to put the chicken (no turkey since it was only two of us) in the crock-pot (an amazingly simple way to cook a chicken), bake a pie, and start the bread (I went all-out). Then a second push about an hour before we ate to make the green bean casserole, mashed potatoes, and bake the extra stuffing. Food was delicious – BF said it was definitely better than we would have gotten with his family (and I actually believe him). Lots of football and relaxing on the couch. A very nice day, even if I did WAAAAAY overeat (and overcook).

We have tickets to the Broncos/Cheifs game in Kansas City on Sunday, and we’re going with two of his brothers and his best friend and his BF’s wife. So I will get some family time this Thanksgiving, I guess. ;)

For the time being, however, I"m back in my office grading…

COOLG and DEANIE,

When I get a new phone I think I want a Droid with a slide out keyboard. That is what my friend who went to Orlando and Chicago with me carries and she is a hospital Vice President and Chief Information Officer. That means she is the executive over all the hospital computer and telephone technology and she chooses to carry a Droid.

I like that it has an onscreen or optional slide out real keyboard. She can expand the screen so she can see what is on the screen but she can use the real keyboard instead of the itty bitty touch screen keyboard which makes it difficult to type on screen because you can be trying to hit one letter and get another. With a real keyboard it is much more definite you are clicking the right letter.

With a slide out keyboard you have the combined factors of a large screen and a real keyboard.

So, take a look at the smart phones with a screen and seperate keyboard.

DR. LEW, it sounds like a good day. Be careful showing off how domestic you are. In some ways it can work for you and seal the deal on a “purchase”. Does he cook? If not, you can end up cooking forever.

Lady Hawke That is what my daughter Jen has. I can text on the phone I have but the keys are so small. They are lighted but when the light is on, I can’t read the keys. Opposite of what the light is suppose to do. I have to keep it on speaker phone in order to hear on it. So I really need a new phone. I don’t know if I can get a Droid or not with my carrier.

I am going to get my eyes checked next week. When I get some new glasses I might be able to see better.

My ham is starting to smell. I guess I need to cook something to go with it and eat sandwiches later.

He doesn’t cook that often so far. Though I did make him make me breakfast yesterday. Or rather, he was planning what he wanted for bfast and I told him that he was going to have to cook it if I was cooking all day for Tgiving dinner. We was cool with that, and it was delicious. I only really helped him with the biscuits (he’d never made my recipe before), though apparently I have a hovering problem when someone else is cooking in my kitchen.

However, I do love to cook for the most part. I find it very relaxing at the end of the day. So as long as he cleans/helps clean afterwards, I’m all good. His version of cooking is going out or ordering in, and that’s getting pretty old (and I’m gaining WAY too much weight). I’ll actually make him cook a dinner for me one day. The only times it really bothers me is when I find I’m doing the cooking, cleaning, AND food-purchasing. As long as he helps with one of the three, I’m good.

Hi! I hope everyone for whom it applies had a good Thanksgiving. My last several days were insanely hectic. I am so done with this ‘head of family’ business. I am NOT a good diplomat, in that I will take sides instead of mediate a dispute. I can’t help it… When I hear BS I cannot ignore it! :+/ Anyway, the dinner last night went off well. The food was superb & the arguments were few and minor… I have finished the cleanup and Kippy and I are enjoying some quiet together time.

I am sorry I have missed expressing condolences to those who have had losses. I just did not have any time for doing any catch up reading. It is strange how these things seem to ‘cluster’… Just this morning I got a call from Sally’s assistant. Sally’s mum passed away yesterday. I am so sad. She was such a wonderful woman. I will never forget the Christmas I spent at her home in Provence, it was so beautiful and peaceful. I also will never forget how she called me, crying, when Sally & I broke up. She said, “I really thought you would be the one to tame my crazy daughter and bring me some grandchildren”… I did not have the heart to tell her Sally had a tubal ligation done several years before. Oh well, time marches on. I hope the days to come are much happier for us all!
