Asti Your card arrived this morning, thank you:) Ouch! that loss of flesh sounds very painful, more healing coming your way.

Lady Hawke I’m happy to hear that your tree is underway and that you have a magic fairy lights tool. I’m still plugging away doing labels and my U.S. cards were posted this morning.

Ironsos We are in for more frost tomorrow but no snow has been mentioned for my area. I suspect that Joe might have had a little recently.

I’m not feeling very festive at the moment.

The greater portion of one large box and one overflow box of ornaments are on the tree. The second large box of anitque colored glass ornaments are still in the attic. My daughter and I worked until it was time for me to get dinner pulled together. So, we have a partially decorated tree with no skirt beside the fireplace and a card table with ornaments spread across it in front of the fireplace. I have my oldest tree skirt out this year. It is white and could be washed in hot water were there to be anyone taking up residence in the fabric. My good velvet embroidered one would not fare well in a washer of hot water.

ASTI, I hope you are up to date on your tetanus vaccinations. You do seem determined to do yourself harm this week.

I looked to see if the UK had a similar magic tree light repairer. I didn’t find evidence of one. If the US and UK used the same current I could send you one. Certainly, if we have such a magic device you cannot be far from having one. As soon as you see one on the shelves grab it. It is a miraculous device.

I finally opened my Christmas cards. Obviously, even a partially decorated tree lifted my spirits enormously.

So far I have one from IRONSOS, SIRIUS, and RHIANNON. Thank you all.

I really do apologize for my penmanship on my cards. I obviously need to write more before I do them next year.

My daughter received a calligraphy set from my mother for her birthday. Maybe I need to pull it out and do some studious work on letter formation. When I married I did the calligraphy on my invitations. No one would have suspected they were done professionally but it looked nicer than ball point pen.

guessing that it is a type of lamb sauce like you suggested.

Good evening!

I am happy to report I have got through the day without shedding any blood. Having just tempted fate, I am now going to sit quietly on the sofa until bedtime.
Though I am getting a cold. That is two this year, and I am less than impressed.

I have to do another Proud Mummy Moment. Daughter told me today that she has a piece of writing in the school newspaper! (I say newspaper, really it’s just a few sheets of A4, produced by a group of the students under teacher guidance.) She had no idea…. It was submitted by one of her teachers, as “an excellent example of Year 5 work.” I have given her the money to buy several copies.

Lady Hawke, I am SO glad that the appearance of the tree has helped you feel better. And Graymayne, I hope you feel more festive soon.

Ironsos, lol, my handwriting agrees.

No progress on the tree today. I did a lot of housework and my back couldn’t handle the bending over, especially since my shoulder is still unhappy about catching the tree as it topple over on my first attempt to put it in the stand.

ASTI, very good news about the daughter. Maybe you could copy and paste her story to us. I thought you just had a cold. It sounds like an extension of the first one.

I am exhausted from a tangle with technology. My Blackberry has been misbehaving, freezing and shutting down, to the point I have had to pull the battery out as many as six times in one day to unfreeze it or bring it back up. My phone was under warranty and I was sent a new one overnight. It arrived this evening.

The shop made it sound as if all I had to do was transfer my SIM card and my memory card from the old phone to the new one. In truth the new phone came with instructions which required me to set up my email accounts on the new phone and transfer all my contact information and stored messages from the old phone to the new one.

The trick is the instructions were so antiquated as to have almost no reference to the phones with which I was working. Basically, I used the instructions to cue me on what I needed to accomplish but I had to manage on my own. None of the step by step procedures used any of the current menus or terminology on those menus. I had to go through looking for the “most like” steps and terms. Sometimes the phones and computers took care of some steps with little prompting on my part and other times I had to direct the steps when the instructions led to me believe I could sit back and watch.

The deed is accomplished but I am not impressed. My DS watched a movie I would have liked to have seen while I was working. I was only able to give it about 35% of my attention. It looked like a nice Christmas movie so I will watch it again with my daughter when I can pay more attention to it.

Cookbooks – Hmmmmm – I do own about a dozen “real” cookbooks and another 8 or 9 that specialize. I do not cook. I can, and have cooked in the past and hope to cook in the future. I have not actually cooked a dish, much less a whole meal, in over 15 years. There, I have confessed. ;)

Got the cards signed, addressed and stamped. Tomorrow they go out in the mail. Well, most of them. Those that go to Canada, the UK and New Zealand may not go until Saturday. ;)

Since the first month of this call center, the efficiency rate has not dropped below 90%. Until last week. We get a running update, all day. It has gone as low as 37% during the day and the final rate has been between 40% and 55%. This represents dropped calls and those where the caller just hung up.

The big problem is that the people calling about their renewals are the totally clueless. The current licenses expire Dec 31 and most of these dear people have not yet even obtained the required continuing education. And they think there should be no consequences provided they file on or very slightly before midnight Dec 31. Our law clearly states that any license issued by our department expires at midnight on December 31 each year. Renewals must be filed far enough in advance that the new license can be issued to be valid by January 1.

Since Nov 1 there has been a nominal late fee for all filings. Every application that is submitted and complete before the end of the year will be processed and issued, but there will be a gap in licensure until they can be issued.

We get calls that begin, “I renewed my license online on (whatever date) and nothing is showing when I search the online sources.” In reality they filed the renewal application for their license. All applications, including online, must be reviewed by a human. It is NOT automatic, it is not totally electronic, it is not guaranteed to be approved. All it is, is more legible and slightly faster than us trying to decipher their chicken scratching from a hand written paper application. ;)

Sorry for the rant. With luck it will be my only one this season. ;)

Ironsos your writing is an improvement on mine, if chickens can read it. They could not even determine which way should be up, with mine. I frequently find that I cannot decipher my own writing once it gets cold. ;)

Off to write a check for the yard man. He’ll be here tomorrow and will start cleaning up the front flower beds. ;)

Deanie For some reason I thought you had been moved to a different department. Was it last year that you worked overtime and brought work home to get everything done before the year end deadline? It is no surprise that you do not cook. I use to wonder how you were able to make it with no cooking. Since I do very little cooking now I do see but I still don’t like not having a cooked meal every day.

It is really cold outside. I have frost on my windshield plus all over the ground. I cleaned out the fridge and took the trash out. I have to move the trash can out to the road on trash day. At least I remembered to do it before they came. They use to come around 6 PM but changed without any warning to befor noon. If I don’t take the trashcan to the road on Tuesday night, I usually forget it the next morning.

Now I have dishes to wash where I cleaned out the fridge. I just throw away everything on trash day since I never know how long it has been in the fridge.

I have decided that I will just wait to figure out my new phone until I have my eyes done. It is completely new to me. I have tried to play Words with Friends on it. I am having trouble getting the letters in the correct spot. I have found the sign in page for MyLeaky and saved it. I have to look to see if I can find my password to sign in. It signs in automatically here so I don’t remember what it is. Since I had to change my passwords on everything a while back, I don’t remember what they are.

I have to get my cards addressed. I think I am going to do it everyday but something seems to prevent me from doing so. Last night I fell asleep around 6 PM and didn’t get up until around 6AM this morning. That is a long time for me.

COOLG and DEANIE, I thought you had been moved out of that renewal mess too. I’m sorry the headache has followed you.

This is my shopping day and doctor day with my mother. I have to go purchase gas in the terrible cold on the way to my mother’s house. I’m not looking forward to pumping gas.

In the UK does someone still come out and pump your gas for you? Until about 15 years ago I still had one place where I could drive up and have the attendant pump the gas. When the weather was bad I would treat myself to some luxury and go there. The place was torn down and they put in a pump it yourself station. I so miss someone else pumping gas for me when it is cold and/or rainy.

Happy 12/12/12 ! It is the same in the US and the UK. It will be 89 years before we have another matched set of triple digits.

COOLG, figuring out a new phone is the part of getting a different phone that I am not looking forward to doing. It was bad enough last night trying to bring up a new phone that is the same model I already have. I hope your instruction book is current and fits the actual model you have.

Our trash day is on Friday and they come very early, maybe 7 or 8 AM. So, if we don’t take the trash can down the night before we are out of luck. If we realize we have missed it sometimes we can run out and drag our can across the street and put it next to the neighbor’s trash can and they will pick it up when they go down the other side of the street. Then, we have to creep over and drag our can back.

Evening all! I’m feeling a bit more festive:) My DS bought me a box containing two jigsaws as a tiny treat and I really liked the pictures. I haven’t done a jigsaw for quite some years but I used to be quite a fan. I have almost completed my card posting except for one’s that might announce changes. This afternoon, after quite a lengthy debate with myself I have bought a Kindle Fire HD 16G, plus standing black leather cover, power adapter and stylus. I didn’t need the larger storage because I won’t be downloading films. It will mean that I will always have the internet with me as long as there is a wi-fi source and I don’t want a fancy phone.

GRAYMAYNE, I’m sure you will enjoy having comfortable, light weight access to the internet. I find my daughter’s touch screen keyboard and my friend’s Ipad touch screen keyboard a bit awkward but it seems to be an issue most people learn to overcome. My mother can’t believe how quickly I can type with two thumbs on my Blackberry. I am a proficient two thumb tyist now. That is why I believe I will still want a real keyboard on my next phone.

We’ve delivered the groceries back to my parent’s house. I’ve filled the medicine boxes and now we are going to make some stops en route to pick my daughter up, probably take my few grocery purchases home as well.

I no longer process renewals and I have nothing to do with the type of licenses I worked with last year. The Agency I work for handles 9 or 10 different types of licensing, the largesst of which is going through several major changes at the same time.

Since I have worked 16.5 years of my 28.25 years here for the division that is having the changes, I spend a huge part of my day explaining the changes and helping the licensees figure out what they are missing.

Because they have upwards of 160 thousand licensees, everyone in the call center is dealing with the same mess. The company that has the privatized contract to process the renewals has been overwhelmed and cannot keep their email from being too full to receive anything new.

I also seem to spend a lot of time straightening out misinformation that was given by my less well informed co-workers. The few calls I get that do not relate to the license renewals seem to deal with other aspect that we regulate with which I have no experience. So I try to either pass them on to someone who has experience with those aspects or educating myself so I can answer the questions myself.

It seems to be a “frying pan to the fire” situation. On the up side, one of the changes is that they are transitioning to 2 year licensing for these partcular renewals. So there will not be another mad rush at the end of the year and the first of these will become due in 2014. At that time renewals will start in June and I am retiring at the end of August. I won’t have to deal with too much of it and I get to dump it partway through the chaos. ;)

Dr. LEW I hope you get much better fast. The BF does seem to be a keeper. ;)

All the cards went out today. The DS went to the Post Office and mailed the ones going out of the Country today & I dropped the rest of them in the box in my office building lobby. I received a card from Lady Hawke today, too. Thanks! ;)

I had my first real therapy session on the arm this morning. I am sore! So I am getting off the computer for the night. ;)

I called my daughter yesterday and told her to stop by McDonald’s and pick up the $1.12 Big Mac’s. These were a special for yesterday. I don’t really like hamburgers anymore but have found that I could eat a Big Mac. This is good since it gives me a fast food place to stop at when I am out. This is a little ironic since I remember when McDonald’s first came to Knoxville. They only had the little hamburgers and I thought they tasted terrible. They could not compare to Krystal’s which is similar to White Castles. Now the Krystal’s or White Castles will tear your stomach up. Lol

I haven’t got my cards addressed yet. I don’t know what is wrong with me.

My daughter bought a new chain to go on the commode. She spent some time trying to get it connected. Yesterday it came loose so I had to try to fix it. I did with the help of a butterfly clip. I wonder how long this will last. The last time I made a repair it lasted a year so maybe this one will too.

I am washing clothes today. I try to get the laundry done before the weekend. This leaves it free for Jen to wash her clothes. I need to get my hair cut. It has gotten longer than I like. I can put it up in a pony tail but I don’t like doing this unless it is hot weather.

I am home to do laundry and work on the tree. First I have to unload and load the dishwasher and go out to the freezer and bring in some meat product to defrost to cook for dinner tomorrow night. I can’t forget to do that.

I’ve been reading about the nurse who committed suicide in London. The articles say she and her family live in Bristol but she works in a London hospital and died in nurse’s quarters. I wonder if that means she works four twelve hour shifts and stays in London for those days and then goes home for three days. That must have been a terribly difficult way to live when you have a family.

COOLG, I used to like Krystal burgers when I was a child. I haven’t had one in years. I liked those little steamed buns and just the grilled onion, mustard and pickle. It is funny because on any other burger I want everything on my burger and no other burger is complete without ketchup. To be honest I haven’t had a McDonald’s burger of any kind in years either.

I guess the only fast food burger I have had is from a place called Back Yard Burgers which started just south of here in Mississippi. The first time I ever heard of them was from the catfish farmer who took me to the garage to have his car repaired for our only date. The person who owned Back Yard Burgers was his best friend. At the time there was only one but he was putting together a deal to build a chain restaurant with franchises. They have gone as far north as Louisville so if you ever get a chance try one. All their burgers are made with Black Angus beef.

My Kindle fire arrived today and is a very nice piece of kit, as is the cover I opted for. The trouble is I have failed to log on to our Wi-fi Lan because the password which BigG gave me to save the hassle of entering a long line of numbers gave me sufficient problems to get me locked out. Kindle says only four attempts are permitted. So I’m stuck for the moment, dammit.

My Sirius radio in the car has been out for 3 days. I finally went to their website and refreshed the signal. I also saw where I can transfer the subscription to a different radio or even increase it to include a second radio. That’s more than I noticed when I activated the new subscription. I suppose it was a good thing that the signal needed refreshing. It was a royal pain not to be able to play it. All the local stations have shifted formats and I was trying to find something that I could stand to listen to for the hour each way to work. ;)

I have a crack in my Kindle. Just a small one at the corner below the reading screen. So I am looking at the new versions, but I am not planning to buy one unless the crack gets quite a bit larger or the operation suffers. ;)

We are also sort of shopping for a new cell plan and new phones. There used to be a site that did side-by-side comparisons, but I don’t know if it exists or what it was called. If anyone has any idea where I can find something like that, please pass the information on. ;)

I need to run a couple of loads of laundry tonight and I have therapy tomorrow morning. ;)

One of the biggest pluses of therapy is that I am 2 hours late to work on those days and he cannot do a thing about it. I provided a list of my appointments and the leave slips & he can’t refuse since I also provided a copy of the prescription ordering the therapy. If he tries to make trouble, I just have to go to Personnel with my proof and he is the one who will be in trouble.

The therapist thinks my desk may be the culprit. Standard writing desk height is 29", standard typing desk height is 26". My keyboard desk has been 26" high for the past 28+ years. All the desks in this department are 29" high. They are just hung on a bracket system, but there was no allowance for “deviation” from the uniform look. There is about to be at least one major change. When I go back to the Orthopaedic surgeon on Jan 4, I am going to try to get him to write an order that my keyboard desk be no higher than 26". ;)

The fun continues! ;)

OH, yes. My desk at home is 26" high. I had the DS cut 3 inches off the legs, years ago. At home I use one of those folding tables like you find in schools and multi-purpose rooms in churches. Actually I use 2 of them, but the other one holds the printer and is still 29" high. ;)
