Won I agree with your Twinkie assessment. They’re good just because they’re so darned American, but I did very much prefer Ding Dongs and Ho-Ho’s by far.

Ironsos Little Debbie is a friend to all. :)

Deanie I will most definitely link it…probably everywhere. :)

Wow, “Ding Dongs” and “Ho-Ho’s” sound so much dirtier without the quote marks. Not making that mistake again.

I didn’t get the crepe filling done yesterday. Other things got in the way. So, I was up at 7 AM and to the grocery for one of the key ingredients which I know I purchased but could not find. By 8 AM I was simultaneously cooking breakfast and making crepe filling.

I licked the spoon after I filled the crepes. It was pretty darn good. They were filled with chicken, ham, portabello mushrooms, green onions and garlic. There was a half a cup of medium dry sherry in there too which hurt nothing, believe me. It was seasoned with fresh tarragon, paprika, cayenne pepper, onion powder, garlic powder, black pepper and salt.

Then, there was a cream sauce made from butter, flour, chicken broth and heavy cream. The filling was mixed with part of that.

A cup of grated smoked Gruyere cheese was grated into the remaining cream sauce and after I stuffed the crepes and put them in the baking dish I poured the cheese sauce on the filled crepes. They are in the freezer now. While they are baking I will sprinkle grated Parmesan cheese on the top.

I have a big wheel of brie which I’m going to put in pastry with almonds and honey and bake.

Now I need to go clean my mother’s house.

DEANIE, you created a monster. My daughter is singing that dreadful, ghoulish song.

I’ve had a quiet day because my DS was out having lunch with two ukulele mates. I decided to leave them to it, nattering endlessly about instruments and music. I have achieved virtually nothing around the house apart from the washing up and a small load of laundry. I have been investigating my Kindle Flash and bought a DVD of Abduction starring Taylor Lautner at a bargain price.

Wolfie congratulation on your book. I will have to wait until my DS finishes it before I can get my hands on it. Christmas is a busy time for me getting all the ornaments done and mailed on time, and the other key chains and puzzles I make to give to friends and the people I work with. I am glad you enjoyed it.

One of my granddaughters came by and showed me her new car. It sure is pretty. While I was looking at her new car I noticed something sparkling on her finger. It was an engagement ring. Her mother didn’t notice it. I wouldn’t have either except the sun caught it.

Good evening!

It’s been a funny old day here. The weather has been foul for the last few days and the town has flooding problems. The river loops around two sides of the town, and you cannot even see where the banks should be. Many local roads are shut.

Daughter spent the early hours vomiting. She has a bad cold, and the gunk builds up on her chest.

I have the toothache again.

But, most of the Christmas food shopping is done! We collect the turkey and a few last bits tomorrow. We are practically ready!

And I received cards from Lady Hawke and MM, thankyou both. Mr Deanie, your beautiful star also arrived, thanks so much. My daughter put it straight on the tree.

I spent a lot of time today working on my husband’s CV. Wolfie, I have sent it on to you, if you have the time to check it over. Thanks again for the help you’ve already given, it was extremely useful.

CoolG, congrats to your Grandaughter! A wedding is a lovely thing to look forward to.

PB, you are SO right about the quotation marks, lol!

MM Your card arrived today, thank you:)

Lady Hawke Please pass on a big hug to your Mother from me, I was most moved to have a card from her. I hope that you all have a wonderful Christmas celebration together.

PB It is such a pleasure to have you around to chat and lark about. We have missed you “young ’uns” whilst you have been slaving away at your further education.

I watched a “golden oldie” this evening – The Prince and the Showgirl starring Laurence Olivier and Marilyn Monroe. It pokes fun at everyone and Marilyn weaves her magic with her wide-eyed innocence and her wicked wiggle. Deliciously funny.

Asti We have had steady rain this week and there is a lot of standing water alongside the small rivers in the county, but at least we haven’t reached the blocked-off roads state yet. Cornwall has been badly hit again I see. It is hard to believe that this time last year we were bemoaning the lack of rain and dried-up streams and shrinking reservoirs. You have to admit that our weather is anything but boring!

ASTI, sorry to hear you have a sick child coming into Christmas. I hate when the upper respiratory crud ends up making their stomachs sick. I’m very sorry about your toothache…

I am to cook the ham tomorrow. I hope not to have to return to the grocery at all. I did not mean to have to go there this morning.

I received a card from DR. LEW today. I was very paranoid about opening it after having read COOLG’s post on Facebook. She did not disclose the identity of the prankster so now I will be convinced all cards are suspect.

COOLG, congratulations on the engagement of your granddaughter.

We are having an easy dinner of cabbage and noodles with some hot sausage cut up and mixed in. I am tired. My real cooking will be devoted to Christmas food the next couple of days.

Now, I’m really thinking. Who haven’t I had a card from who might have put confetti in the card? They are obviously arriving at strange uneven times, someone from the UK, hmmmm…..? Everyone else appears to have received this card but not me.

I am doing a wild scary thing. I had some leftover egg noodles. Reason told me they would not be consumed in the next day or two. So, I went looking for a noodle pudding recipe. Of course, noodle puddings are on the grand scale, using whole packages of noodles. I just had part of a package which had already been cooked. So, I “eye balled” the recipe and put in a little bit of this and a little bit of that, hoping I have approximated the percentage of each item necessary to approximate the recipe. I used no means of measure other than my eyes. We’ll see what the outcome is.

My daughter is making cookies and needs a much hotter oven than my noodle pudding required. So, my experiment is facing another challenge, a too hot oven….not to mention I had already applied olive oil to the noodles after cooking rather than the butter required in the noodle pudding recipe.

I have a new pet. She is 6yr. old chihuahua that belonged to my bother. His grandson is allergic to her and they are now living with him. he was looking for a good home for her and when I told him I would take her he was so relieved. He says he thought I would never consider adopting her since I had the other pets. He was so happy when I went to pick her up. He says he knows I will love her. LOL!

She seems to be doing OK. The cat has touched noses with her and decided to ignore her. The terrier has accepted her too. The lab mix still needs time. I’m glad I have two weeks off to get them used to each other. :)

I now have four adopted pets. :)

MM, I am so sorry to hear your brother has been affected by this dismal situation. Hostess has been something of an American institution, whether you have a preference for Twinkies or not. I was more a chocolate cream filled fondant covered cupcake person myself. I can’t believe there was no compensation package worked into the deal at all…

How do you feel about chihuahuas? Bless you for taking her. They are not my first choice. I am not fond of very tiny dogs. The only manner I can see I would end up with one is the way you have acquired yours, through inheritance. I hope you do come to love her.

PB, good music is good music, even if some of it might be sixty or seventy years old. The older ones were cool and cutting edge in their day. The younger ones are trying to imitate them.

We have a potential for a winter storm on Christmas night. I don’t have to go anywhere or be anywhere the next day and neither does my DS. It is a prime opportunity without any ill effects from having to be out in it.

My friend is in town today. So, I will see her for awhile this afternoon. A Christmas visit just at the brink of the heavy lifting part of the holiday is not opportune so I won’t be able to spend an extended period with her today.

Good evening!

My daughter is feeling a lot brighter today, thank goodness.

We have made the cookies for Father Christmas. Usually we do this on Christmas Eve, but since I am working a 10 hour shift, I decided to do it today!

The turkey has taken over the fridge. I think it might actually be a relative of Herbert’s. We have called him Trevor.

Wolfie very kindly had a look over my DS’s CV, and gave it her seal of approval, for which I am very grateful, especially given how hard I worked on it! Now we can sent it out tomorrow with confidence.

MM, I am sorry to hear about your brother.

I am going to bed. Tomorrow at work is going to be busy, but hopefully it’ll be a good atmosphere.

Daughter is in charge at home tomorrow. She, with her Dads help, is going to make the sage and lemon butter and pipe it under Trevor’s breast skin.

I am looking forward to Christmas.

Goodnight! xxx

I got a card with glitter confetti today. The card is beautiful, even without the confetti. ;)

Asti I know he will do very well with a “Wolfie approved CV”. Look at this time as a chance to catch your breaths and see what else is out there. I know you will come through with colors flying. ;)

Lady Hawke I should have posted a disclaimer warning not to listen while children were in the room. Sorry. (Trying unsuccessfully to suppress huge laugh!) ;)

Asti I am pleased to hear that your daughter is feeling a lot brighter today. I will be thinking about you slaving away tomorrow, sleep well.

I am expecting delivery of three DVD’s tomorrow courtesy of Amazon Prime, so we will have somethng good to watch over Christmas if the TV programming is too awful.

MM That is awful news for your brother, especially at Christmas. I hope your latest adopted dog will settle down swiftly and be a source of great joy.

I just finished wrapping twenty books, most on mythology and art instructional manuals, plus one YA novel. I have five other books wrapped by the used books store, four mythology books/sets of books and one Annotated Complete Works of Shakespeare. They are not all from us. Some of them are from other people who commissioned me to purchase gifts for them. There is one art instruction book which is going under the tree unwrapped to give her something to look at until time to unwrap presents. Many of the books came from a fine old used book store which specializes in rare book searches. Purchasing from a used book store made a huge difference in prices. I think she has roughly 25 books for Christmas.

In addition to the one art instruction book, under the tree she will find a Tree of Life pendant made by MUGGLE TRISH, a DVD of BRAVE, a replacement DVD of ENCHANTED which died long ago, and a DVD of the 10th Anniversary Concert of Les Miserables (because the 10th Anniversary edition has Lea Salonga as Eponine and the 25th Anniversary one doesn’t).

She is going to flip. She desperately wants these books and was worried when she didn’t receive any for her birthday. She will be very, very worried when Santa does not provide any.

My friend purchased a heavy silver link chain for her today but gave it to me to hold for Christmas Day. We will be able to have all her silver pendants/charms attached to the chain so they won’t knot up on each other as they do now. My friend also had a package for me. I can’t imagine what it might be. We have not exchanged Christmas gifts since my daughter was born. She is much more affluent than we are and I told her to spend whatever she would have on me on my daughter instead, if she insisted on continuing the gift exchange at all. Bless her, she always makes up for it at my birthday. I am blessed to have her. I do not receive gifts from anyone anymore that I did not go out and choose for myself. My DS and I almost never exchange and I have to choose what my parents give me. So, my birthday present is the one gift that is a surprise. Suddenly, this Christmas I have a surprise. I am going to save it as long as I can before I unwrap it.

ASTI, so glad your DS has a WOLFIE approved CV to send out. I continue to cross everything I have. I am wishing, wishing, wishing. Glad to hear the daughter is improved. I wish you were not working tomorrow but at least most people will be stressed but festive.

We have lots of DVDs from Netflix and some we picked up at Target a couple of days ago to get us through the rest of the week.

Tomorrow morning I need to cook the ham for Christmas Day. I will take my crepes out of the freezer to come to room temperature and bake for tomorrow night. I have asparagus to roast as well. None of it will take long or involve a tremendous amount of effort on my part. Rinsing and snapping the ends off the asparagus will be the most arduous task. I also have small balls of mozzarella to mix with small red grape tomatoes and basil to act as a cold salad. One last thing, I must wrap a brie in pastry with honey and almonds and bake it. Again, nothing arduous, just as lot of little stuff.

Good morning everyone! Merry Christmas Eve!

I’m working at the bakery right now, and I’ve got a long list of things to complete before we shut down at 2, so I don’t think I can spend too much time here, but I will definitely be back either later this evening or within the next few days to update you all on how things have been going. :)

I have the ham, asparagus, and pastry wrapped brie, both regular and blue, out of the oven. My chicken, ham and mushrooms filled crepes are in the oven. There are cocktail sausages in BBQ sauce in the crockpot. Once the crepes come out of the oven we are ready to roll.

So, I won’t be back home until later this evening.

My MIL has determined she does not feel well enough to participate today. We are hoping for the best tomorrow.
