GRAYMAYNE, your card arrived today. Thank you. It was nice to continue receiving Christmas cards. It keeps the season alive.

After breakfast yesterday we took the dogs out on a freezing cold day to the dog wash and gave them baths, dried them as best we could there, wrapped them in towels and raced home with them. After that we had to clean ourselves up and rush to the movie theater to see LES MISERABLES. When that was finished we came home and unloaded the car of all the Christmas contraband from the night before.

I was able to serve leftovers for dinner and my DS requested to play cards on the last night of his holiday so I never spent much time online once we went to wash the dogs.

I am having a problem which I discovered before bedtime last night. I don’t know how it happened but when I open MOZILLA FIREFOX I have NO ICONS on the bottom of the page, NO TOOL BARS. I don’t even have FRONT and BACK ARROWS. I have NO ADDRESS BAR. I have NO SEARCH BAR. So, once I open Firefox I can’t get off that page. The only way I can leave the page is to CONTROL, ALT, DEL and shut the computer down.

I don’t know how to get my tool bars and icons back if there is nothing to click on on that page. It was working when I left home yesterday but something happened while I was gone.

I’m not sure what I’ve done but I’ve managed to get access to my address bar, search engine and my minimize, expand, delete buttons and arrows.

I still don’t have my icons at the bottom of the page. So, to access those I have to minimize the page so I can access the icons on an Internet Explorer window.

Lady Hawke I am dismayed that the delivery of your card has taken so long. I have just checked back here on Leaky and my U.S. cards were posted on Dec 10th!

I have downloaded a U.K. road map onto my Kindle Fire which will not be dependent upon wi-fi when in use and will magnify to the size used in our standard map books which we keep in the car. My DS won’t use a GPS route-finder in the car, he prefers maps and road signs, and he doesn’t like to use mobile phones. I have also downloaded a free app for BBC News specially adapted to KF, you tap on a picture and it brings up the news item in a size you can read.

I must check on our late lunch.

Good Morning

I did not realize that I have not been on for a few days.

I am glad everyone had a good Christmas. Jennifer and her daughters came over for Christmas Eve for a gift exchange. One of my granddaughters got me a ponsetta. She remembered that the DS always got me one for Christmas. It seems my other granddaughter got engaged too. So both the sisters are sporting engagement rings. I have one more to hear from. She is the oldest of the three. I wonder if she has a new ring this year? Probably not since she is still in college. She hadn’t opened her presents the last time I talked to her. She is suppose to come to IN after New Year so I will see then.

Jen and I went to my youngest daughter’s for Christmas day. This is where we open up the majority of our presents. I usually have 2 or 3 to open but this year they just kept piling up. We all get our presents, then take turns opening them. I got so many things it took a trash bag to put them in to take home. This year was really special because my grandkids each bought me something with their own money. I did not buy the grandsons a present but gave them each a belt of their grandfather’s. One was a western belt with his name on it and buffalow nickels on the belt. It was a good thing I gave him a new one to wear since the last one I gave him was about wore out. He wears it every day. The other belt was a black dressy one which I gave to his older brother. He will wear the dressy one since he dresses up. His brother is a jeans and boot kind of guy. I got the girls a gift case of eye shadows. They were so happy that I actually got the shades that they wanted. They seemed to be happy that I had bought them a gift instead of the usual money. I figured since they all had jobs now, the money wouldn’t be as special as when they did not get a weekly pay check.

After dinner was over and the dishes cleaned up, we all played a game. It was a little like chareds but was played with timer that gave you the word or phrase for your team members to guess. Each time you changed your word, the timer would go faster. If you were left with it in your hand when it quit, you lost. It was a lot of fun especially since a lot could play it. I actually was pretty good at it since I have to think of trigger words all the time when I am talking. As far as answering , I would just blurt out the answers without thinking. If I tried to think of the answer, I would not be able to get it out. Anyway it was so much fun.

My daughter is having a New Year Eve’s party where she has lots of different games to play. She has prises for the winner too. She did this last year and it was so much fun that eveyone wanted her to do it again. I can not believe that she is so much like I use to be.

We didn’t really get the blizzard that was prdicted. At least I didn’t consider it a blizzard for my area. The wind was really bad the days before it started snowing. It snowed Christmas night. I think we got about 7 inches. The wind was blowing all around us so we were in a blizzard alert area but like I said, it wasn’t too bad here. My daughter had to go to work this morning but she texted me that she made it to work ok.

CoolG It is good to see you and hear that you had a jolly good Christmas with your family around you. I was very pleased to see that your area was spared the nasty blizzard that we have seen on our news reports over here.

Ironsos That sounds like good thinking:)

Good evening!

I got home today to find a card full of green snowflakes and glitter, and was delighted to find I had guessed the identity of the sender correctly! Thank you so much! And thank you to those who received it before me for the fun anticipation.

We travelled today to see my parents, and my sister and her BF. We had a lovely time, though the 5 hours we had together went far too quickly. Both parents appear well, though Dad seems to be having a bit of a rough time with being 70. And I really expect Mum to announce that she is retiring fairly soon.

I am SO tired! Having fun is hard work, lol. I also think I could do with a decent hot meal. We have been eating leftovers and nibbles since Christmas dinner. I will cook something tomorrow.

Lady Hawke, I believe I have seen on the Kindle discussions pages that it is possible to “share” books between Kindles linked to the same account/address? Do you know if I am correct?
I am glad you weren’t affected by the bad storm.

CoolG, how lovely to read about your fun Christmas. xx

Graymayne, we still have a lot to explore on my daughter’s Kindle Fire…. I have been pushing her to look at the Amazon app store as they have a big sale on at the moment. I am delighted to report that she has already read one of the two books she has downloaded! As we learn more about it, I would be happy to help you out if necessary, though it sounds like you are finding your way!

I have just been looking at the news online….. my DS was woken last night by a thunderstorm. It seems, in the midst of all this flooding, the lightening strikes from that storm set fire to two buildings, one of them a school.

Ironsos, yes they are. I suppose the very very heavy rain we’ve been having, coupled with weather mild for the time of year, set it all off last night. A lot of the southern counties and some of Scotland are still under flood alerts.
Are you enjoying your films?

The dvd pack came with a little booklet that has a list of each dvd and what is on it plus a short synopsis
of each film plus an alphabetical listing/location. I have been looking for quite a few of the movies so
I will have a fun time starting tonight.

I received a card today from MISS HAGRID and one from LEMON. LEMON’s was postmarked Dec. 17. It certainly took a very long time to arrive. I know many of you had her card last week.

ASTI, I’m sorry I don’t understand anything about sharing books between Kindles. We only have my daughter’s and my father’s and they certainly don’t share reading preferences. I’m happy you enjoyed the visit with your family. It is too bad you can’t see them more frequently. How far do you live from them or how long of a drive it is to get there?

COOLG, it does sound as if you had a fun and happy holiday. Congratulations on all the engagements. We had a very little bit of snow that covered the roofs, most of the grass and the limbs of trees. It was remarkable that such a small amount of snow remained all day and there was still some left today.

MM, I would like to try and play as long as I can manage to be seated with my laptop on my lap and not playing cards with my DS and daughter. I think we plan to be home any night this weekend. So, if you set a time I will try to be available.

Aloha! ;)

My last scheduled therapy session is tomorrow morning and then I will go to work. I will work until 1:45 pm on Monday and then I will be off until the 7th. The 3rd will be our 38th Anniversary and I go see the orthopaedic surgeon on the 4th. Sometime next week I will need to make time to get a haircut, too. ;)

It feels like even while I am off, there will be a lot of busy-ness. ;)

I am up early today. It is still cold here. Yesterday there was a lot of traffic in front of my house. The roads had not be cleared so I guess they were traveling on our road instead of others.

I am going to curl up in the chair and read Lemon’s latest book.

The DS and I just returned from having lunch out at our local restaurant with all the antiques. They make th most delicious Cream of Rice soup. After that we went to our local Target to purchase shampoo, conditioner, soap, dog food, which are all cheaper than the grocery store. While there I bought the new doggie a leash and harnass. She came without one. We are going away tomorrow for the entire day and we are taking her with us. We are driving up to Galena. :)

Good evening!

Back to semi normal today here…… Lots of laundry, and a supermarket shop. We did have good fun choosing lots of cheese for cheese night on Monday.

I have to work tomorrow, sob. Everyone else is going to see The Hobbit.

Daughter bought herself a cookbook a while ago, and had asked if she could cook one night. She did tonight. The first course was spaghetti with a lemon, cream and parmesan sauce, and she made lime cheesecakes for dessert. Both dishes were delicious, especially the cheesecake, which I’d have been very proud to make myself. We are suffering a slight excess of cream and citrus fruit, lol, daughter has aching wrists from all the zesting involved, but apart from a small cut to her thumb while she was trying to halve a lime, all went very very well, and I am proud of her!
All I did was deal with the heavy pan of spaghetti.

MM, we had a version of the same day. We went to an antique shop and to Target. I’m glad you are enjoying your free days.

ASTI, I know how proud you are of your daughter and her interest and skill in cooking. I know my daughter would not do that well with food preparation. She mostly bakes and makes breakfast foods. I did notice you were a bit heavy on cream and citrus. Was she aware of the similarity of her menu choices?

Is anyone here planning on seeing LES MISERABLES? I highly recommend it. Just don’t go with a small child or anyone who is easily embarrassed.

Evening all! I have been pottering on my Kindle Fire, watching TV and nibbling nuts. We had the rest of our beef loin today with baked potatoes, peas, and fried onions and chestnut mushrooms sprinkled with dried mixed herbs. Very tasty.

I had another card today, from the Lemons plus a photo.

Time to hit the hay.

LadyHawke – I would love to see Les Miserables but I can’t talk the DS into taking me. Maybe my daughter will go with me next week. We went to see “The Hobbit”. I liked it. Visually it’s awesome.

Tomorrow we plan on driving to Galena. That is where we went for our anniversary.

Next week the DS goes back to work. My daughter wants to go to the Casino next week. That will be fun. I am so glad I took these two weeks off. It is only taking 6 days from my vacation days. But the rest and time off is worth every minute.

We are going to Florida at the end of the month in January. We will probably drive to Texas first to see my MIL then go to Florida. I can’t wait.

It is cold and overcast again today. Yesterday it rained and rained and rained. I ended up with wet feet and finally decided it was time to give up on running around and just come home. I discovered there is a crack in the sole of my shoes, the ones I wear on a daily basis with slacks, the ones I can wear without rubbing blisters or just feeling generally uncomfortable. They are not good enough shoes to try to resole them. So, I guess I am in the market for new comfortable shoes to wear with slacks.

My DS has studying to do today so my daughter and I will need to amuse ourselves. I would love to have some place like Galena to go, MM. I’m not much of a beach person but after almost two weeks of cold and damp I am finished with this winter business. I would like to go to Florida too. I think I could use some sun, even if it is cold. It was overcast Christmas Eve and rained torrentially Christmas Day and has been drizzly and dark ever since.

Good evening!

Work was OK today. Busy but not mad. We took a positively obscene amount of money in the week before Christmas.

Now I am all alone. My DS has taken son and daughter to see The Hobbit.

And I got a card from Dr. LEW too!

Lady Hawke, I sympathise. I have two pairs of boots like that.
I was aware, but Daughter wasn’t, until she started the prep! I didn’t want to spoil her pleasure in choosing the recipes by quibbling about it. But I am sure it will be a while before she voluntarily zests so much fruit again!

We had to scratch our plans to go to Galena for the day. The DS was called to do doggie duties at the Golf Course. He was not assigned to it till next week but the one co-worker that had this weekend has the flu. So off we went to walk and feed Jake the Border Collie. He is such a sweet dog. When he retires, I would love to adopt him. :)

We took our brand new Chihuahua with us. She was kind of nervous about the ride but by the end she was all relaxed and doing well. Now we are back home relaxing and watching a movie. :)
