Good evening!

I am feeling a lot more like myself today. I would even go so far as to say I had a good day at work, lol!

I have finished reading Wolfie’s book, and it really is good. I do hope you all buy it! She has been very very complimentary about the comments I’ve made on her draft, and has made me feel very happy. And YES she will be published in ebook format too. I do hope you all buy it!

I cooked a really tasty new recipe tonight, a chicken and mushroom casserole. I feel like I cheated a bit, as a tin of mushroom soup formed the base of the recipe, but with the addition of some single cream and fresh parsley, it really was very yummy. Fresh herbs are a big indulgence of mine. I really think they can lift a meal. I used to grow quite a lot of my own, but our last few summers have decimated our garden, so fresh from the supermarket are my guilty pleasure.

Lady Hawke and MM, my DS is practically dribbling. It has been a dream of his for many years to see the sun rise at The Grand Canyon.
And talking if all things American…..he is very happy that he can now stay up as late as he wants to watch the Superbowl!

I Really need to go back over my posts before hitting send. I was commenting on Dr. Lew’s post.
We have not had a nice warm up before a snow event yet this year. I think this only happens on the
other side of the Rockies.

We have what is called “The warm before the storm” but we are talking temps going
from the mid thirties to the high forties before the storm hits.

This is from an old(2006) article.

ASTI, I am very glad to see you here tonight. I’m also very glad you had a good day and a dinner you enjoyed. I will definitely purchase WOLFIE’s book, in real book form.

I am home much later than usual. As I expected today ran very long, from a late start to a late finale. I went to my parent’s house early and filled the medicine boxes, went through some things my mother wanted me to sort, pulled some things down off upper shelves she could not reach, and then we headed to the apartment. My mother decided to put down a security deposit so they would hold a particular unit when it comes available. That necessitated a run to the bank and a session of filling out forms at the apartment office. Then, I drove my mother around the complex, checking the location of the units which will be available in the next two months and deciding on which one she wanted. We needed one that the parking is right in front of the unit to limit the amount of walking they must do from door to car, particularly if the weather is bad. One of the units with front parking was just on the other side of the fence from the dollar store which we did not like. The back of the large commercial building would be their view from their patio. We ended up selecting a unit with front parking which is directly across the drive from a wooded area with walking trails. That unit also backs up to another wooded area with a lawn and is directly across the lawn from the two swimming pools. My parents can sit inside and see the tree or sit on their patio and watch my daughter walk in the wooded area.

Then, we had to go locate a vendor who would sell us the double wall oven I had found online and install it for us. I found out to my dismay that although Home Depot had the unit and would deliver it they would not install it. I was discouraged as they had the best price. I called Sears as they also had the unit at the most expensive price and found they would install it as well as deliver it. Then, I walked into Lowes and found not only would they install it and deliver it they would honor Home Depot’s lower price. So, we have started the process of having Lowes put in a new double oven.

Then, we still had to do the grocery shopping, pick up my father, pick up my daughter and go to dinner. When we got back to my parent’s house I had to find some financial documents they will need at the apartment to approve them for move in.

So, I am home at least an hour later than normal after having left home an hour earlier than normal. I am so glad I decided to prep all the food for tonight and tomorrow morning before I left home. I arrived to find my DS had already eaten and was preparing to spend his evening studying. So, I didn’t inconvenience him by running so late and I didn’t have to do anything except change clothes and get comfortable after coming home so late and so tired.

I am also very cold. It was in the 70s yesterday and since the storm moved through last night the morning temperatures which were pleasant this morning have dropped to quite cold and uncomfortable by late this afternoon.

Stew turned out great, thanks for jogging my brain Graymayne

Does Bally’s still have the moving sidewalk out front MMM ? I love riding on that whenever I am in Vegas. If you are staying long enough – go out to dinner at the Italian restaurant inside the atrium in Sam’s Club (it’s a few miles outside of town). I have to add to what LH said about the Grand Canyon. It was the first place I’ve been to that downright awed me. I was there from 11 AM to nightfall so saw it in pure sunlight and through sunset. It is spectacular any time.

Sirius There’s nothing like a tasty stew in winter for cheering you up, glad it turned out well.

Lady Hawke Wow! Things are really moving. I hope that the apartment will be available on schedule. Your mother is pretty amazing and fortunate to have such a caring and efficient daughter. Admirable teamwork!

We had a slightly strange weather experience this morning: we heard a deep rumbling sound which was not immediately identifiable but quickly turned out to be thunder accompanied by a couple of lightning flashes. My DS heard quite a strong wind in the trees at the rear of the property, I heard rain pattering on the window at the front, but it must have been a quickly moving weather front because the sun is now shining out of a blue sky. Very unusual.

Time for breakfast.

I didn’t say but they did get permission from the person who is currently renting my mother’s choice of units to show it to us. The woman has already moved out but has not turned in her keys. So, the place is empty. Maintenance just has to come in and paint, clean the carpets and do some minor repairs. So, I can’t imagine them having difficulty getting those things done in two months. I really don’t know why it is not available until the end of March.

I will need to take the financial information over to the apartment this morning. Then, I hope to come home and do some things that need to be done here. I have been out this week when I meant to be home.

I am going to have to work very hard to achieve a reasonable balance on where I spend my time for the next two months. I’m sure my mother could use me over at her house full time. On the other hand, I have to keep day to day lift running here and I have to get this house ready to take incoming furniture and objects that must be displayed and stored.

Good morning, Leaky! I hope all is well here.

So I got some BIG news yesterday. I just found out that my proposal for my research lab has been funded by the University! I can’t even express how excited I am. This was an internal (within the University) grant and was my best shot at funding, so I was going to be really hard pressed to start up the research program I wanted without this funding. I was scared to get my hopes up about the grant, but we heard last week from the governor that the State was NOT going to cut any University funding in this year’s budget. Which is (obviously) fantastic news, so I was starting to get a bit optimistic.

Anyways, despite the beginnings of a cold (scratchy throat and cough), I’m a bit on cloud 9!

Dr. Lew This sounds so exciting. After all the years you have been working toward this, you must be on cloud 9.

Lady Hawke Since the apartment is already empty, maybe you will be able to move in earlier than 2 months. Hmm two months is February and March. So do you move in during March or at the end of March? The temperature here is really dropping fast. Yesterday I was burning up and today I am getting cold just sitting here at the computer.

I am waiting for my Schwann man to get here. Yesterday I thought he had missed me but then finally realized that it was Wednesday instead of Thursday. I am going to get some peppers and onions to put in my omelets. I have been fixing different kinds each morning. I want to go to the store since it may snow later tonight.

GREAT NEWS! DR LEW You really are all grown up!

COOLG, for whatever reason the apartment is not considered to be available until March 23. If they take the apartment on the 23rd they would have to pay a prorated amount for those 11 days. My mother is not anxious for it to be sooner than two months now. She can only do so much work at a time and she feels she will need the entire two months to sort her house out without killing herself. I feel I need the entire two months to sort her house out and my house out and I will still be dead at the end.

We did take daddy by to see the apartment. He was most pleased with the doorways. Even though this is not a handicap accessible apartment the doorways could easily accommodate a wheel chair. He went in with his extra large walker and was able to clear the bathroom doors easily.

I was with my parents for five hours today. My mother had some more banking questions so as a result I have lost a day of work here. I just sat down with a drink. I came in and started folding and putting things away immediately. I have repacked all my large bedspreads and comforters and put them on a shelf in the bedroom closet. I’ve put my towels back in the bathroom closets.

So, I’m taking even my few minutes before I have to go pick up my daughter to accomplish something.

Tomorrow is the Celtic feast of Imbolc celebrating the start of the Spring season with life beginning to stir all around in the flora and fauna. It seems so appropriate that above me as I write are two people, at the very least, whose lives are being affected by change. I must assemble my Imbolc bracelet and hope that the weather tomorrow will be kind to us.

Dr. Lew Congratulations! That is very good news:)

Great news Dr LEW!!! ;)

Lady Hawke Many apartments require the first and last month rent at the time of rental. It could be that the previous tenant has paid for at least one of these two months. They cannot legally rent an apartment to two separate tenants at the same time. So the previous tenant may still be legally there, even if not physically there.

Which works in your parents favor to, in effect, hold the apartment of their choice while they get ready to move out of the house. ;)

HAPPY IMBOLC, GRAYMAYNE! I’m sure there must be a tie in with Ground Hog day tomorrow. I wonder why Ground Hog day comes a day later instead of the same day?

DEANIE, you are probably correct. The person who currently rents the empty apartment was actually in the office the day we went in and made application. That was why we were allowed to go in and see it. Although she still has the keys she said we could be taken in. I don’t know why she is keeping the keys to an empty apartment but, as you said, it works for us.

My daughter has a sore, red itchy eye. On Monday she mentioned a very specific spot on the edge of the lower lid that was sore. I thought she might be starting a stye. A visible bump never appeared but by Tuesday she had two spots about a 1 cm apart which felt sore and itchy. Last night she told us the entire eye, top and lower lids were itchy and sore and her eye is red. I don’t know how much damage she has done by rubbing. Her other eye is not yet effected.

I am going to send her to school so there is a record that she made an appearance but I suppose I am going to have to call the doctor and have him see her.

It was very cold this morning. -12 degrees. Now it is 9 degrees so that is an improvement. It snow last night so I decided to wait until it warmed up a little before I left to do my shopping. Now Jen is coming and we are going together. This is better for me. I wasn’t looking forward to driving on the snow and icey back roads. I need to go to buy myself a pair of knee high boots. This is the second time I have needed a pair this month so I am going to try to find a pair. It will probably be hard at this time of year. I know I tried to order a pair on Penny’s but every pair did not have my size.

This weather is a killer. The other day I was sweating because it was so warm in the house. Now I am bundeled up because it is cool.

Sirius Feasting seems to have been the traditional way of celebrating significant events so we take ourselves off to a nice inn, pub or restaurant to consume delicious food. Today we set off in sunshine to the Feathers Inn at Brockton where my DS tucked into duck and I chose Lemon Sole and we had peas, carrots, Savoy cabbage, and sauté potatoes served separately. Our desserts were Sticky Toffee Pudding and vanilla icecream with a naughty sweet sauce, and my DS chose Banana icecream with Butterscotch sauce. Everything was delicious. The gilt on the gingerbread was seeing a patch of snowdrops on the way home, a sure sign that the growing season has started despite the recent cold weather. The sunshine gave way to rain just before we left for home.

Lady Hawke Get her to the doctor ASAP. Pinkeye is highly contageous and you want to rule it out, pronto! If she has pinkeye, you don’t want her near your parents or other children. She should use a hand sanitizer immediately every time she touches that eye.

Sorry for sounding alarmist, but you just described my symptoms the only time I ever had pinkeye. ;)

I spent most of the morning with my mother clearing out my bedroom at their house which has become the storage room in the absence of my bedroom furniture. My mother has been working on it off and on for years, trying to make some headway into it.

I managed to empty the closet today. Then, we handled every single item in the room. We had sacks for donation, sacks for trashing, sacks for giving to specific people and sacks for keeping.

Some of the sorting was a bit heart wrenching. There were items of no particular value that had emotional connections. I don’t have room for all that in my house. I’m having to be selective so that has meant donating, gifting or even tossing things that have made me anxious and cry a bit. I really don’t know what I’ll do with the things I have chosen to keep.

My DS and I have to get into the attic. I don’t even want to think of the things in the attic. They are up there because after moving from House One (1920 to 1948) to House Two (1948 until 1963) to House Three ( 1963 to 1976) to House Four (1976 to the present) they have escaped donation or trashing. I’m sure a lot of these item came with my great grandmother when she moved into House One after my great grandfather died so many of those items are going to predate the turn of the 20th century. It will be the end of the line for most of those items. They were kept as too precious to give up but were put in the attic as there was nowhere else to put them. The older items will stand a better chance with me than will any of the items from House Four, the contemporary house.

I’m certain there are probably things in the attic I may not even know about.

I took all the donation sacks with me when I left and dropped them at Goodwill.

Now I’m home doing laundry again.
