Cool G: If your house faces south that could explain the difference in melting once shadows

My daughter had a good time today at the photoshoot for the Hall of Fame. The boy who won Most School Spirit was an 8th grader and only came up to her armpit. I saw him in the office when I went in to pick my daughter up and check her out early. His family had come for him and he was every bit as small as my daughter told me. They had to have their photo taken together and the photographer wanted them together…touching…and he wouldn’t go near her. I think he was horrified at a sixth grade girl who towered over him. To make matters worse the photographer suggested my daughter give the boy a piggyback ride in the photo. Frankly, I think that was out of line and offensive to the both of them. They ended up posing, leaning against two opposite sides of the same tree with their baths to each other.

Otherwise, my daughter had a great time. When they went to lunch the eighth graders invited her to sit with them. The sixth graders were scandalized that she had been invited to sit with the older students. Her “partner” ended up sitting next to her and he was a bit disgruntled.

My daughter’s individual photo was taken on a piece of playground equipment. She was holding onto a pole and leaning out. She was in a dress which makes me wonder what they were thinking….again. They were at the local plantation house that was the house for the plantation which owned the property on which our house sits. There were other people who had their photos taken at the house. My daughter would have rather had her photo taken at the house.

My daughter was happy to check out and head home. We are going to make my DS’s birthday cake together.

Ooooh, * Graymayne,* I’d love to know what you think of it. How did you get on today?

Lady Hawke, it sounds like it was a bit of an odd day for your daughter. Why did she have to have her picture taken with the older boy? Will you be going away during her break, or is all your energy needed for the house clearing?
And I am a bit excited. Our printer is so so so old……. We found a really good deal and spent some of my overtime money on a new one. AND it has a scanner thingy. So, once I know what I am doing, I can get all my old pictures into it. AND it talks to my iPad!!

Asti I took my Kindle to the hospital to pass the waiting time by reading my new book. I am quite intrigued by it. I spotted a book which BigG would at least know about because it dealt with prehistoric arrow heads. My ultrasound scan revealed that I had no blood clots, so that was a relief. I left a message for my doctor and made an appointment to see him next week to see what is to be done about the pain and swelling in my calf.

Lady Hawke Please wish your DS a Very Happy Birthday despite the shock of the new milestone, lol.

ASTI, my daughter had to have her photo with the tiny older boy because she was the girl voted Most School Spirited and he was the boy voted Most School Spirited. She was shocked because he did not seem at all peppy and excited to her at all. She said his attitude was more, “Don’t talk to me and drop dead.”

GRAYMAYNE, that is a huge relief about the scan showing no blood clots.

ASTI, our printer has been dead for over a year and we haven’t had a scanner in probably four or five years. On Saturday we had a new scanner/printer installed. Today is my first attempt at using it. I can scan and print and I can scan and store wirelessly but when I tried to post one of my scans on Facebook it said there was something wrong with my image. I have never had an image that was not accepted. So, I must have scanned it in the wrong size PDF or something. I have no idea.

I am going to purchase the book you recommended. It seems to fit my mood more than anything in the house. If I enjoy it my daughter will attempt to take it from me.

Oh, and thanks for all the birthday wishes for my DS.

We have completed the carrot cake with cream cheese icing and minced pecans on top. This is a bit of a healthy carrot cake. It had no added sugar in it. For sweetening it used concentrated apple juice and a reduced amount of oil in favor of unsweetened applesauce. It also required whole wheat flour but I found white whole wheat flour so I hope it is not as heavy as a cake made out of traditional whole wheat flour.

Everyone at school were very impressed with her full makeup and hair look. She was told she needs to do it every day. Some of her boy pals didn’t know what to make of it.

Morning

For some reason when I refreshed, I lost all the avatars. I am afraid to close in case I can’t get back on.

Lady Hawke I knew your husband was older than you but I was surprised he turned 60. That makes him closer to my age than to yours. I wonder if anyone else is in their 60’s now. I know Mistic Willow is, Ironsos, and myself. I looked at my home page on Leaky the other day and it gives my age as 61. Guess I need to change it. Lol I keep forgetting that your daughter is as young as she is. I have been thinking of her as a teenager forever.

I really need to do my spring cleaning. I know it has been forever since I had an over head light working in my bathroom. Today I noticed something. Even though I clean my sink everyday there was hard water stuff everywhere. I had to use cleanser that takes hard water marks off and really scrub my sink. It looks like a new one now. I wonder what else I have seen for so long that I don’t pay attention to it?

I can tell it is warmer today. When I go downstairs and let the dogs out, it is not as cold as usual. Once it gets warmer so I can work downstairs without getting cold, I am going to rearrange things. By that time my daughter should have gotten most of her stuff that is left. I am changing things around in the kitchen right now. I am trying to make things easier for me to get to them. Things that I haven’t used for awhile, I am going to move to a cabinet that is hard to get to. This should take up some time to do. Lol

Another bad day is over with. Yesterday was my anniversary. Things should be looking up now. Maybe that is why I have started my spring cleaning. Sometimes you are down in the dumps and don’t realize it. I also need to come to terms with my picture. Every time I have one taken, I get a shock. Even though I see myself in the mirror and saw how old I am looking after I had my eyes fixed, I still don’t like any pictures of myself. I have been taking a few of myself to show my hair cut and new glasses but I hate everyone and delete them.

I am going to post this. I hope it works. It didn’t work but I did copy it to Word before I tried to post. I had to shut everything down and restart the computer. Now I need to fold the towels. They are dry now.

COOLG, I think DEANIE and MR. DEANIE are in their 60s. My DS’s birthday was hard for me too. Not only is he now in his 60s I am married to a man in his 60s. That sort of DRAGS me up in age. On the other hand I am the biological of a child in sixth grade. A lot of the mother’s in my daughter’s class are 15 to 20 years younger than I am so that sort of drags my age down. So, in some groups I am deluded into feeling older than my age and then I come home and realize I am very soon married to a senior citizen. So, I crash back and forth in my self perception.

Today we are working on clearing out our computer room and closets so my DS can move his office back out of the dining room and into the computer room and so we have room to absorb some of the items in my parent’s house. This is not going to be a one day process. We hope to convert the computer room into both a computer room, but reducing the footprint of the computer office space so we could also have room for a daybed or sleeper sofa possibly.

The DS just got a summonds in the mail for jury duty. He has just been dead for over 2 years but he is still getting jury duty? This was a pain to him because they seem to always select him every couple of years. I am afraid they will say for me to come in his place when I call them. They are just about that crazy.

So, the new printer is all set up, and is working. It is talking to my iPad, and my iPad is talking back, but as for any kind of meaningful relationship…..well, that is not yet happening. I am giving up for the night.

Lady Hawke, it is really delightful to see how much happier, settled and accepted your daughter is at this new school. Good for her!
My daughter says please can I ask you to let your daughter know, that she is now on Book 4 of The Alchemyst series, and is really enjoying them. She says thanks again for the recommendation.

CoolG, life is so unfair sometimes. My MIL still gets letters for her husband, and she has been a widow for 20 years. I don’t understand how, with all the bureaucracy and form filling we have to go through, these things can still happen.

Hellooooooo leaky! It’s been a while… kind of vanished for a bit from most things except work, but though I still have a ton of stuff to do, thought I’d drop by and do the worklurking thing again. Had a nice Christmas but caught the stomach bug, which seemed to take most of January to clear up, and it’s been “catch up” since then!

Hope you’re all well! :)

Hi Huff, it’s good to see you again. Sorry to hear about the stomach bug interlude, that is very lowering in the mood department. Just look forward to the arrival of Spring:)

Asti I have been deep in the book today and find myself curiously at home. I almost feel that I am looking into my son’s world because he deals with the technical side of smart phones.

We are in for another spell of cold weather and we might just see some snow tomorrow.

ASTI, I just returned from the bookstore. I am afraid I am going to have to wait until the book comes out in paperback. I simply couldn’t part with that much cash at the moment. It is priced at $25 here and it is quite a small book to have that large a price. I read the first bit of it and wanted to keep reading so I will be picking it up when it does go to paperback.

Hi Huff, good to see you. Hope you can drop by and fill us in a bit more.

I have almost cleared the 9 ft (2.743m) shelf in my closet. So, I can put some things in there that are coming from my parent’s house. I put a lot of it in my cedar chest which was only half full and I compacted some of the rest of it.

Morning

I have just finished changing all the clocks forward. I am surprised I remembered. I did look at my phone to make sure I had the right time.

Lady Hawke I am getting tired just thinking about all the cleaning you have done. It reminds me of all the things I had to throw away when I first moved back. Hmm I wonder if we left the tool that lifts sheet rock up to the ceiling somewhere. I know the DS took it to work with him. I will have to ask my son-in-law if he has it in his outside garage. He took most of the work tools to his house so I don’t really know what he has there. I just think about something every once in awhile.

I need to make myself a cup of coffee.

Dr. Lew Since you run in races you might be interested to know that my youngest brother and my youngest daughter are running in a 13. something mile race shortly. They are not running in the same race. My brother has been running for a couple of years but this is the first race for my daughter. At least I think it is the first race that is a well know race.

Thanks, JOSIE, I can never keep up with when Mother’s Day is over there. I always think it is closer to ours.

I’m sure ASTI will show up eventually to tell us what sort of day she had.

HAPPY MOTHERING SUNDAY to GRAYMAYNE and ASTI.

I am working on my piles of stuff, trying to limit and condense it all. I have made a pile of very expensive board games to send away. We haven’t played them in at least 15 years. It is difficult to find “gamers” so we are only keeping our absolute favorites.

That’s a problem with us too, Lady H. People prefer electronic versus the traditional board games. I like playing mahjong using the real tiles but have no one to play with here.

I have gone through my closet, disposing of some things that are between 20 and 30 years old, many of which look brand new, things I loved, things that made me cry because I can no longer wear them and am never likely to be able to wear them, not realistically, even with a successful diet. I also disposed of jackets and sweaters I wore for many years that I loved and could still wear but I realize are critically out of fashion and take up far too much room in my closet for items I have not worn in years.

So, I have had some weepy moments this afternoon.

Good evening!

Thanks for the good wishes, and Graymayne, I hope you had a happy Mothering Sunday!
When is it in the US?

We had an odd sort of day. Son had his County Training, so we got up early and headed out, the idea being the three of us would have a walk and some lunch, then hang around until he was finished. We dropped him off, then 5 minutes later, he rang to say we’d got the date wrong, the training was last week!
So, having got up at the crack of dawn, and driven about 80 unneccessary miles, we had a pleasant but VERY COLD walk, an early lunch, and drove home. The weather really was too cold and windy to enjoy walking and exploring for long. I dozed off in the car on the way home, and I think I may finally be succumbing to The Cold.

Lady Hawke, check out the title on your daughter’s Kindle. I paid £2 and some pennies for it, you never know, it maybe on offer in the US too. Graymayne, I’m delighted you are enjoying it.

HUFF!!!! Huff was here! xxx

ASTI, she could get to it but not me. I think the key here is for me to read it and for her to decide to take it from me. I probably need a Kindle of my own for offers like this. I would be willing to pay the $4.16 but not the $25.00.

I’m stopping the sifting through for tonight. I need to go make preparations for dinner. I have been at it all day.

Fortunately, I have leftover chicken from last night so I just need to add some potatoes. I think I still have cole slaw from Friday’s dinner.

ASTI, I wonder why no one called about the training course, either before as a reminder or afterward to see why your son wasn’t there? How many people are in the course?
