Needed to get away from the printer set-up for a moment. CD-ROM was not compatible with
windows 8 so I am having to download all new software and drivers before I can set up an ad hoc
network. I HOPE.

You all are making me hungry. I guess it is time to eat a meal instead of just nibling.

My grandson has gotten a job at McDonalds until he turns 18 . He wants me to stop by. I do like…..ooh the one that has the “special sauce” on it. I haven’t had one in awhile. It is usually what I get if we are out and need fast food.

Asti Glad you had a nice vacation. My daughter made a different kind of cold veggie Pizza for an appetizer. It was so good. Of course I have forgotten how she made it. It tasted more like a cheeze ball and raw veggies than a pizza.

New printer works nice. one thing though. It really helps if you install the new stuff after you
download it.

Good evening!

For someone who has only worked one and a half days out of the last six, I feel ridiculously tired. My eyes hurt. Possibly it says more about my attitude at work than anything else, lol! I am looking forward to my week off.

I’m still enjoying Shadow of Night very much. SPOILER ALERT……….
…….
…….
…….
It is a mark of the good writing that I am not put off by all the famous C16 people she just “happens” to meet, or all the name dropping. The author’s research is impeccable, and she makes it all credible. (Thus far….. I am only half way through!) It is also refreshing to come across another fantasy writer who assumes her readers might have a modicum of intelligence. Gosh that makes me sound dreadfully snobbish. Didn’t mean to, sorry, but I stand by it.

SPOILER OVER!

Son had to have a filling today. He went on his own. He is a funny mixture of a boy, sometimes very strong, mature and independent, and at others, so useless and lost. I was working today, and was pleased he was happy for me not to come with him. He said all went fine.
Yet, just last week, I had to stand over him while he phoned the local college to book a time for an interview. There was no-one in the office so he left a message in which he forgot to mention his name, or leave a contact number!

Asti Have you not read the author’s background? She is seriously qualified. I also enjoyed Shadow of Night and I went to the trouble of setting up a file of images relating to the people and places mentioned. The whole book is very vivid and full of detail so that you feel as though you have stepped back in time with the characters.

I read “Shadow of the Night” A couple months ago. I was impressed by how intelligent a read it was.
Read like a history lesson at times. The “Marlow” character was most interesting.

I am sick. I have a gastrointestinal illness that started around midday yesterday while I was unloading boxes at the apartment. I worked through yesterday but I am home today, losing a day of work. I did not need this. I am going to try to do some work around here today, unload my buffet and use some polish on it. I don’t feel a lot of motivation. I think I was sort of beaten down already from the weeks of working and so this virus has hit me harder than normal. I don’t usually take myself out for the count.

Our sixteen year old boy cat vomited copiously this morning. I have never seen so much come out of a cat. So, here I was with my own gastrointestinal problems cleaning up after a cat and having to take him to the doctor. It was almost more than I could take. We know he is on the edge of renal failure and we have been fighting to change his diet for the last three months. The doctor gave him an antivomiting injection and another with an antibiotic. So, I am home again, feeling worse than before my excursion out into the cold and rain with a sick cat. It is 42 F (5.55C) and raining. This is not the weather to which we are accumstomed in April. It should be in the high 70s and lower 80s, more like 77F (25C) to 83F (28.3C).

Good evening!

So, it is April 4th. And it snowed, fairly heavily, all afternoon. I am not impressed. I am fed up of being cold, am in need of some sunshine, and am frankly terrified about our heating bill.

I have almost finished Shadow of Night. I am saving the last little bit for tomorrow. SPOILER ALERT………
……..
……..
……..
I really wasn’t keen on the Prague section. I got all excited about the Castle and the Old Town and the Jewish Quarter, as my DS and I went there a few years ago, but I thought the storyline with the Emperor was a bit daft. Things improved a lot after that.

Ironsos, I don’t know much about Kit Marlowe, but from what I do know, he is perfectly cast as a daemon! I love the way she mentions Shakespeare, but seems to disregard him…….I’d like to know more about her reasons for that! And I love the PS in the note her Father left her!! Remember, Hamlet is my favourite play?!

Graymayne, yes, I know of her credentials. It is great to see her weave her academic knowledge into such an intelligent and intricate story.

SPOILER OVER!

Lady Hawke, I do hope you and your catty both feel better very soon. xx

I’ve had to push the move off a week. I’ve called the moving company and rescheduled. There is so much that needs to be done and I am not going to be any use today again. I also can’t afford to go over and push through it and increase the chances of exposing my parents.

I am cooking corn beef. Too bad I don’t have some cabbage. I might get some if I go out. I need to get dog food.

Lady Hawke Too bad about your sickness. Good thinking not going around your parents until you are better. The cat did pick a bad time to get sick too.

I went Wednesday and saw THE Host. It was pretty good. My daughter who had not read the book loved it. Now I need to wait for the DVD. It probably will come out earlier than the Twilight DVD’s.

This is Friday afternoon and I’m still fighting this thing. I had to call the cable company to move out the shutoff date for my parent’s television and the telephone company so their phones would not be shut off. Each of these phone calls was long and drawn out the first time I made them and were long and drawn out the second time to change them.

I have had a two hour nap, something I never do in the middle of the day, so I know I am beaten down by the sick and the exhaustion.

I purchased a frozen chicken cordon bleu casserole. Someone can throw it in the oven tonight. I hope I feel like eating some of it.

I can’t remember the last time I was sick and just got to be sick. I know this is something all the mothers understand. The child still has to go to school and be picked up. I still have to think about how to get people fed. My DS did take my daughter out last night but he can’t do that every night until I come out from under this.

Good evening!

I was very brave today, and took myself to the hairdresser. I told her I wanted it just about shoulder length, and with no fringe, but apart from that, told her to do what she would. I have come away with quite a choppy style with lots of layers, and I like it a lot. Though I did have to wash it again when I got home and style it away from my face. The shortest layer isn’t quite long enough to tuck behind my ear and was hanging in my face and driving me BONKERS.

Lady Hawke, make sure you rest. You have been under a lot of pressure these last few months, and need to spend some time taking care of yourself. I hope the catty is ok today.

Won, how is Sally?

ASTI, if my hair won’t tuck behind my ears it must be too short to get into my eyes. Someone did a chunky haircut on me one time and I thought I wasn’t going to survive the awkward growing out period. When I put the rest into a ponytail to get it out of my way I still had chunks that fell forward into my face. They looked like floppy dog ears. That has become one thing I’m very specific about now.

WON, yes, have you heard anything new from Sally?

Hi everyone… Ironically, I just got a call from Sally last night. She is coming along physically. However, she is not dealing with the chemo so well. She called me kind of late in the evening actually. She said she just needed to talk to someone who would “understand, someone who would not judge me”… I do not know who the a**hole was who gave her a mirror, but I would like to have a few choice words with him or her. She was disconsolate. Her beautiful flaming red hair was cut short just before the surgery, & now was all clumpy & patchy. Her eyebrows were almost gone. She was grateful to not be dying, but was all depressed about what she looked like. I told her that it would all grow back & she would be her old self in no time. She said she would like to see me, but not until she didn’t look so hideous. I am very, very glad to hear that. She has completed her radiation therapy, so once the chemo is done she plans to fly back to her parents place in France to rest & recuperate. I can’t deal with such a long flight, so I will have to wait a few months before I am able to meet up with her. Thats about it for now…

I found something I thought was really interesting. There is a jeweler who makes commemorative jewelry for heredity socieities like my Daughters of the American Revolution.

I received an email showing a new line of mini pins. Here is one I thought was really wonderful.

Morning all! We have a bright, sunny morning with temperatures just below freezing, but with the prospect of a pleasant weekend of weather.

Won-Two I am sorry that we have a society that is so judgmental about appearance when the most important aspect about people is their inner self. Sally has realised that you are her strongest ally at this low point in her life so that is really good news. I wish you both all the best in the world. Just try to imagine us all in a big, warm group hug. {{{{{{{{{{{{{{{HUG}}}}}}}}}}}}}}

Won Poor Sally. Tell her there are great wigs out there in the meantime. I’m sure she knows that. A woman who owns Jimmy Choos knows that . :)

LadyHawke -please take care of yourself. I know that it’s hard but with all the running around you probably have all your defenses down too. :(

I went out with my sisters yesterday. We had so much fun! I love spending time with them. We went to lunch and then we did some shopping. I found some cute key chains that say “sisters make the best friends”. I bought three and gave each of us one. They loved them.

Good Morning All

I am very dehydrated. I am trying to drink but I’m having problems drinking more than I’m losing. I think this thing is slowing down but I’m very weak and not of much use, very light headed. The trip between the bed and bath or chair and bath is about as far as I can go and then I have to recover. I don’t know how I managed to go to the grocery for my mother yesterday or how I took the cat to the vet on Thursday. I feel as if I might never leave the chair today unless it is to go back to the bed.

I did manage a little of the chicken pasta last night.

So far this morning I’ve had a cup of buttermilk and I’m working on a glass of club soda and a mug of tea.

I’m feeling desperately guilty about abandoning my parents but I would be of absolutely no use. I need to focus on getting some food and fluid into my system.

As it turns out I have been running a low grade fever, especially in the late afternoon and evening.

Thanks Won_Two, I have the free version and since I just did the yearly Norton subscribe I will hold off.
The free version caught stuff that Norton does not even look for. I have free ccleaner for the other bells
and whistles. So far(knock on plastic) no problems for me either.

Wish they would have had that deal earlier!!
