DEANIE, the TV he has taken over is the one I can see from the kitchen when I am in there cooking. So, I am already having to watch a lot of stuff I have no interest in seeing while I am in there working and he is in here sitting.

He wants me too cook a turkey from the freezer this week so we can have it for sandwiches for lunch but it is going to take days to defrost and is going to take up a lot of space in the refrigerator while it is defrosting and is not going to provide any meat for lunches until probably Thursday because it won’t be defrosted until at least Tuesday and I won’t have a chance to cook it until Thursday. If I had planned on cooking a turkey I would have had it defrosting since mid week.

I think I am going to tell him we are having pork loin and I’ll cook the turkey later.

He also wants black bean soup so that will take up a lot of room in the refrigerator as well. It is as if thinks the refrigerator has the same interior enlarging spell as the Weasley’s car.

There are photos of LAURA and JOE coming through on Facebook now. I wish I could share them with those of you not on Facebook. In one photo they are up on a trail in the mountains, already at the hiking portion of their visit. The second is of them sitting at a table on a deck at a place in LAURA’s former university town.

My DS had a moment of inspiration and decided I should cut the pork loins into chops and make pockets in them and stuff them. I am nervous about stuffing anything. I’m always afraid the stuffing is going to fall out and I am especially worried about him cooking them on the grill and turning them. I’ve made up a mixture of celery, onions, garlic, Granny Smith apple and dried cranberries. I’ve cooked it down a bit to soften it and make it tuck in better.

So, my now pork loin chops with slits are now back in the marinade.

I need to go wrap the sweet potatoes in foil and get them ready to go in the oven. We are having sugar snap peas and portobello mushrooms saute’d with onion to go with the chops and pototoes.

Oh, and LAURA and JOE had frozen beverages. JOE’s was sort of mango colored and LAURA’s was very intense pink.

Lady Hawke Actually I wasn’t worried about him because the ambulance man came to the same conclusion that I had, my DS was overreacting because he wasn’t used to thinking about himself as having any kind of heart trouble. It is a bad idea to check out medical stuff on the internet, you end up imagining all sorts of things. If he had been kept in hospital, however, I would have had no way of getting home. I couldn’t walk the half mile mile home from the bus stop and taxis are unthinkably expensive.

Hey guys is this where we are supposed to be for Lemon’s anniversary party? Yeh, it has been two years since I’ve posted. Planning a picnic later today and hope it warms up. Usually it is 80F and now it is 49F. Not good for a pool party.

Hello Free Elf and Won_Two Nice to see you both, and welcome back to our cosy castle, Free Elf. I have just bought an app for my Kindle Fire which seemed like a very organised diary, but I am struggling to find out how it works. I have typed in non-important data in the calendar and in notes, but when I check back to see if I have done it correctly there is nothing to see. I can’t believe that it only turns up on the home page on the due date, that would be silly. Perhaps I should sit on my towel and start again, lol.

It is unseasonably cool here too, FREE ELF. By this time of year we should be suffering from the heat.

You will find only a handful of us are regulars here anymore. I left a much more elaborate explanation of where everyone has disappeared to at CC.

We are extremely pleased to have you back bolstering our diminishing numbers.

I am continuing to do laundry today, as always.

We have theatre tickets tonight to see Miss Saigon. We haven’t been to the theatre together as a family for years.

I made something really awful for breakfast this morning. One of my cousins passed around a recipe on Facebook which I made the mistake of making. It involved baking scrambled eggs in an avocado. We love avocados but I can tell you applying heat to them does them no favor. It takes away the freshness that gives them their appeal. It was a great disappointment.

Tonight we are having a fruit and cheese dinner before the theatre. I dislike feeling too full when I have to sit quietly for several hours.

Enjoy the play. I am also finishing up laundry. My first project when school lets out is teaching everyone in my household how to their own laundry. This is not just for their life skills, but my sanity. Any funny stories on learning to wash your own clothes that I can pass on? Lemon must have set up anniversary marker in CC for years to come. She was a no show everywhere. Anyone know how her writing is going? Won, I washed two whole loads of towels to celebrate Towel Day. Does that count? I am trying to get a hot date at the drive in tonight. Double showing Epic and Fast and Furious for $10 and a backseat.

Hey ironsos, Lady Hawke, Graymayne, and Won_Two.

My DS had a letter this morning from the Cardiac Department of a hospital in Wolverhampton saying that his doctor had arranged an appointment for the afternoon of Tuesday May 28th. This is very quick work in my experience!

Progress! What I needed was a cup of coffee before looking again at my new app. I will be able to keep two calendars, one for my medical appointments and Housing Dept callers and one for more personal stuff. I also have a section for notes.

I did a small amount of weeding this afternoon but my garden looks a shambles. I need a magic wand or a garden elf!

FREE ELF, I never did a load of laundry on my own until I was in college. I still “saved” as much of it as I could to take home to my mother when I was going home on weekends. My mother was a full time housewife and I was a full time student and did a lot of theatre rehearsals in the evenings and on weekends. Clean laundry and food “magically” appeared for me up until I went away to college. I wonder why and how I ever learned to cook. Well, I know why I learned to cook. It was the year I was 13 and we had just purchased the house my parents are about to put on the market. My mother and father were working on preparing the house to move into and I was told if I wanted any holiday meals or treats it was going to be up to me to make them happen. I had a Girl Scout cooking badge so I knew how to read recipes. It was a trial by fire. Holiday cooking with no experience is a tough but effective way to learn.

I learned to wash pretty much everything in cold and to hang as much of it to dry as possible and to dry everything else on low. That was the most effective way of not shrinking anything.

Just this past week my DS purchased two pairs of dark blue jeans. He asked me to wash them before he wore them and since the washer was so empty I threw some of his underwear and t-shirts in with the jeans. He now has several baby blue t-shirts.

Lady Hawke, FYI put a cup of white vinegar in the wash with new or dark jeans. it helps with fading and keeps them dark longer. Works on blacks too. Oxy Clean soak will get those whites back to white, especially if you kept them out of the dryer. until then just tell him to wear them with the new jeans.

I am not a good cook. Just the basics because I was always in school or working prior to staying home. I wasn’t the Betty Crocker mom. I am the mom that let the boys play in mud and helped to build forts in the woods.

Fortunately, they are the t-shirts he wears under his dress shirts. So, pale baby blue is not a tragedy. Under a white button down you can’t see the color. That is good to know about the vinegar to hold the color on the jeans.

I’m the “barely get by” mom, cooks enough there is food, washes enough that there are clothes (usually), and cleans when I can’t stand it anymore.

My daughter just had to wait a couple of hours while I washed and dried her clothes. She had taken a shower and couldn’t get dressed so she was trapped in her room.

I would have washed her clothes yesterday but she took a sort of “all day” nap. By the time she got up and joined us for the evening it never occurred to me to go in and gather her laundry and start the washing process again.

She has her sleep cycles all messed up. She can’t sleep well at night so she is sleepy during the day. Today I have told her she is not allowed to take a nap. We are going to the theatre tonight and will be home late. By then I hope she is sleepy enough to go to bed and go to sleep and wake up at a reasonable time. This summer won’t be much fun or productive for either of us if I spend my day waiting for her to wake up.

DS chose going to the gym instead of taking me to the drive-in. My boys are still asleep. It is still too cold to go swimming. but drum roll please….the laundry is complete and no pink or blue undies in sight. You guys were just trying to be patriotic with your mishaps. You should try again to celebrate Memorial Day or Flag Day or July 4th. My mother has had her red, white, and blue silk flowers out for a few weeks now. One of the traits that I don’t want to pick up from my mom. Raising the flag on the appropriate holiday is enough decorating. I am the one who finshes decorating for Xmas under and hour. Have a good Sunday.

I don’t decorate for anything except Christmas and Christmas is a huge thing. I know people who leave a Christmas tree up year round and change the ornaments to match the closest holiday. They don’t have enough to do if that can go to that sort of trouble six or seven times a year.

We enjoyed our show last night. The young woman who played the lead had some powerful lungs and a wide range, everything from a high delicate head voice down to a deep chest Broadway belter voice. We didn’t reach home until after 11:30 and stayed up for a short time to wind down. Now we are up but feeling a bit “hung over” from our late night and not quite enough sleep. There were still furry people who wanted attention this morning.

Morning

Free Elf How nice to see you again. Sorry I can not give you any info on getting your avatar back. I have not changed mine since this site started up and so many were having problems with their avatars. I have to laugh when I think about how we changed avatars at the drop of a hat. I think I had 7 email accounts that I just used for avatars so I could pull up anyone at a moments notice. Strange but I can still see your elf in my mind.

Lady Hawke As much as you do laundry, I can not believe you would put unwashed jeans in with white underclothes. Pretty hard to belive Ironsos would put something red in with white underclothes. I guess it is because he was in the Navy that I would think he would know how to keep them white. Lol

Wolfie has been with Laura. When is she suppose to get with Lemon, Rhianana, and ?. ( I can not believe I can not think of our friend who lives in Canada’s name. I can only think of her real name.)

I have been watching Breakfast at the Brickyard all morning. They really have been interviewing a lot of celebraties. This is on from the Indy stations. At 11:00 AM, I will have to change to the Louisville Stations because the race is blacked out in Indy. My brother (Santa) is coming over to watch the race with me today. He use to work every year at both the 500 and the Nascar Race. I wonder if his son is still working the race? After he got ill, they gave him a sit down job so he could still work.

I put on a pork roast in the slow cooker last night. I figured I needed something to feed my brother while he is here. I had gotten some cole slaw. Also will make some corn meal muffins and mac and cheeze.

I am so glad my brother is coming over. I had 5 brothers but was really close to 3 of them. Now I have two that I am close to. My oldest and youngest not so much. The oldest because he has lived so far away for too many years and the youngest because he has always been so busy with his own life. He is closer in age to my children so they have always been closer. I am more a mother figure to him than a sister. In fact the DS and I were stand in for his parents when he got married.

COOLG, It was madness on my part. In truth no one has had brand new dark blue jeans in longer than I can remember. I purchase most of my daughter’s jean at second hand stores, no point in spending full price on clothes that will be discarded in months. My DS has been purchasing stone washed ones that are already faded when they are brand new. I haven’t had a pair of jeans in years. I would never had put “regular” clothes in with jeans but I will frequently toss a pair of his jeans in with his underwear of a few pairs of underwear in with a load of jeans, just not brand new dark blue ones it seems.

MARGOT lives in Canada. I don’t know if LEMON was able to contact her. At any rate the interstate bridge between Seattle and Canada is the bridge that collapsed into the river this week. So, if they intended to go up to meet her they are going to have a much more difficult time getting there. I think WOLFIE was meant to be with LAURA for five days and I think today is Day 3 so I think she is moving on to LEMON on Monday or Tuesday.

I think LAURA and WOLFIE stayed home for the evening last night. There were photos of a cutting board full of sliced citrus fruit labeled with “homemade sangria”.

COOLG, my friend who attended LeakyCon with me is at Indy today. She and her DS were invited to a large private party in a glass enclosed party room at the Speedway during the race. They were put up in a hotel for the weekend. She is a NASCAR fan but decided to attend because it was a free weekend, complete with free hotel, food and drink.

We are still working on clearing and rearranging the computer room. FREE ELF, my parents moved from their home of 37 years last month and we inherited a lot of furniture which has to be incorporated into my home. Much of it has been sitting in the middle of my living room and dining room the last month while my DS “backhoes” out his “computer room/office” to make room for the chest of drawers he wanted to substitute for his shelving and for the daybed I wanted to serve as extra sleep space for guests or for us when someone is ill.

When he started to move the chest of drawers into the room yesterday he found there were several drawers that needed renailing and reinforcing with wood glue. So, he spent a good part of the afternoon with a hammer and wood glue and then it had to dry. So, today the chests of drawers will move into the computer room. I hope the daybed is not far behind.

One all this is out of my way I will have to deal with the boxes in the corner of my living room.
