Good evening!

Today has been good, but expensive, lol. Son’s prom is in three weeks time, so we took him suit shopping. We had to go to a variety of different shops to get what we wanted, but he ended up with the works…. A grey suit, a fitted white shirt with black buttons and subtle black piping around the neck, a dark red tie that goes really well, and a new belt. The only thing we haven’t got yet is shoes. Due to his foot problems, he cannot physically get his feet into the formal mens styles. He did an official try on when we got home, and looks really good! I will post pics.
Then I got all carried away, and ordered an iPhone! I know I have the iPad, but I have coveted the phone for a while, and found a good affordable deal. My DS got one too. The job he lost just before Christmas provided an iPhone, and he loved it. Newest job does not allow personal calls on the works phone, so he needs a secondary. He has been doing a pay as you go, which is adding up to more than a contract each month. So, a bit of an unnecessary indulgence, especially for me, but FUN!!!

Remember Ginny Weasley? She has two boys, and has just announced her third pregnancy!

Lady Hawke, what a lovely inheritance for your daughter, and yes, I can imagine the relief.

  • Won,* do you need a hug!??

Won are you injured or did they fall out of your pocket? I really think you must have been injured since you are making the pain sounds. Get thee to an emergency room or to the dentist as soon as you can. ;)

WON, how did it happen and when? Did you fall?

We are home and I had laundry going within ten minutes. I must get everything clean and ready to go for the next funeral. My mother is home doing the same. There is no good news from the aunt but we still don’t have any specific idea when things will come to a head.

ASTI, can your son have some formal shoes custom made, eventually, not for the prom, but for a long term investment. I know everyone seems to have iPhones but I want something that has a real keypad instead of a keyboard on a screen. I am looking forward to some sort of new Smart Phone with a larger screen when the contract on my Blackberry runs out in January.

Won_Two That is quite terrifying! I would imagine that you are in hospital at present with an injury like that. I sincerely hope that the bike owner has insurance. I’ve sent you some healling energy. Thank you for letting us know, it is so worrying when people just drop off the radar.

Lady Hawke Good news about the education fun. Bad news about all the deaths in your family. My thoughts are with you.

MM Hoorah! Great job making it through the most stressful time of your school year.

Won Ouch!

Asti Kids grow up way too fast. I am sure black sneakers (trainers) will work until you can get him some custom made dress shoes

HP I found myself hoping there was some sort of spell to control bat guano during the Halloween feast. For some reason that though occurred to me while reading about bats but not all the owls flying in all the time.

On the night of the feast, how did Harry and Ron know which girls bathroom Hermione was hiding in? There is more than one girls bathroom and she may very well have been in the bathroom in Gryffindor Tower. (I have always assumed there were bathrooms there – for showers and whatnot)

Also, I do not understand putting the phrase “Potter for President” on the ruined bed sheets. I have always wondered on the choice of phrasing for this. Why not “Good Luck Harry” or something down that line??

On a personal note, I have found myself quite frustrated with psychiatric care in this town. My son has some issues and is on some meds and is about to run out. He is not an official patient of his psychiatrist until the 17th and the place that prescribed him the meds is refusing to prescribe more. Extremely frustrating.

korey1979 Plumbing has always seemed to be low down on the list of priorities in this country and old buildings are the worst of the lot.

korey1979 Unless you are into very old movies, you are not used to thinking about old buildings, like schools and rooming houses and even old hotels where all the inhabitants used a single bathroom. In fact, the bathroom had no other fixtures. The bathroom was used solely to take baths, toilets and sinks would be elsewhere.

Many old boarding houses had a sink in each room and one toilet or water closet per floor, if it was constructed as a boarding house and not converted from a single family dwelling. Remember, daily bathing is a relatively recent development. People really did only bathe once a week and wash their hair about that often, too. ;)

Then again, the prefects from all the houses shared a single bath. That would have been 24 people, 12 of each gender, using the same tub, even if it was the size of a small swimming pool. I have no problem imagining that at some point in time they had some form of group bathing, with different times scheduled by gender. Hogwarts is very old, after all. ;)

Won I am so glad that your injuries were not worse. I am sorry that you are injured at all. I hope you have the very best doctors. ;)

GRAYMAYNE, there must have been toilet facilities in each of the house common areas. Students are not allowed to wander the halls at night. I had the same reaction KOREY had.

KOREY, since no one is cooperating with you it might be necessary to do some research about some homeopathic substitutes to get you through the week. Thank goodness school is out.

The “Potter for President” has never made any sense to me either.

We know there are at least three bathrooms – the one Hermoine was hiding in, Moaning Myrtle’s bathroom and the prefects bathroom. I can see where an old castle would not have been built with a lot of bathrooms. However, I am sure someone could have magicked some in. :)

My aunt was moved to a nursing facility on Friday but they had to move her back to the hospital yesterday. Once they arrived at the nursing facility it turned out the medical orders were not being followed. They were insisting they were legally required to feed her by mouth since she doesn’t have a feeding tube, even though the orders were “nothing by mouth” because she can’t swallow without aspirating into her lungs. They said they were legally required to feed her and could not allow her to starve. They didn’t have the pain medication on hand they were meant to be giving her and had to have a new order every time to give it. She was having to wait hours in pain for a doctors to be contacted and new orders to be written. So, the pain was getting ahead of her. It appears a conventional nursing facility is not going to work for her. They need a hospice type place which is prepared to follow orders that allow them to ease a person comfortably from this world. The nursing facility was more about housing and feeding people for long term and the orders to keep a dying person comfortably were counterintuitive to their bylaws.

I am feeling quite depressed this morning. In the last eight months, three people gone in the last seven weeks, I have lost or am in the process of losing four of the six people other than my parents who have always been my primary family. The other two were lost back in ‘99 and ’02. My parents are the only ones left. When we were in my mother’s hometown for the funeral it was difficult to find someone to spend time with when not at the funeral home.

Seven weeks ago we had dinner with the aunt who is dying this week. We spent an afternoon and a morning visiting with the cousin whose funeral we attended this weekend.

This time there was no one to eat with since my aunt’s family was gathered around her watching her die. My cousin was gone so he was no longer available. We had nowhere to go except the hotel room.

We did go visit one of my older girl cousins for about 45 minutes but that was it. Her daughter and granddaughter were ill and fighting stomach viruses and kidney stones.

My extended family has almost completely disappeared and very abruptly disappeared.

Lady Hawke I know what you mean. My mother was one of 7. All except one uncle and one aunt are gone. The uncle never married and the aunt lost her husband a few years ago. The oldest brother and youngest sister passed within 48 hours of each other. When it hits, it’s fast! :(

I think all of my fathers siblings are gone, but I’m not sure. There was some bad blood there and we are not in touch with anyone from that side. If anyone is left, it would be his only sister. :(

Good evening!

WHAT a day! A ten hour shift, walked a mile home, grabbed my music for my piano lesson, got home, grabbed daughter, walked a mile to her school for a disco, dropped her off, walked home, arrived at the same time as my DS getting home from work, threw a frozen pizza in the oven and called it tea, waved my DS off to collect daughter, got daughter a snack and into bed, and am finally sitting down at 9.15pm!

And I have never understood why she used the phrase, “Potter for President.”

Lady Hawke, my whining about my day seems very silly when I read about how you are feeling. I’m sending my love.

Won, it sounds like you are quite fortunate not to be even more badly hurt. I hope you are being well looked after, and the pain medication is working its magic. Do let us kow how you are when you can, and you KNOW we are all thinking of you. xx

Korey, we have found a style of black shoe made of soft material that works with his feet. As they are soft, he goes through them rapidly…..his feet are so misshapen, they literally don’t go into a shoe in any normal way. He wears them to school, so we’ll probably just buy a new pair of those for the prom, so at least they look smartish, and shoe shaped, lol. Custom made shoes could be a very good investment for his adult life.
I hope you and your son get through the next week, and that he responds well to the new treatment.

The first person who looked at my parent’s home made an offer on it. They offered the asking price but have asked my parents to pay part of the closing costs. By the time all the fees and closing costs have been taken out my parents will not get as much as they would have liked. The other alternative is to turn down this offer and wait for another one. The house across the street has been on sale for 2.5 months and has only been looked at twice with no offers. My parents don’t want that to happen so they are going to take the offer. They don’t want to have to continue having the grass cut, continue to pay the utility bills and the insurance on an empty house. They will also get out of any further taxes.

So, it is good my parents have an offer but that is one more transition, one more saying goodbye.

ASTI, never worry about whining. You extra long busy day is still an extra long busy and tiring day no matter what is going on with anyone else. They can make you want to cry at the injustice of not having any time or any rest.

I think, given the neighbours situation, your parents are very wise to accept. Yes, it is another goodbye, but it frees them from anxiety. I hope it all goes through smoothly.
