As far as the potions chamber it said there was barely enough for one sip or swallow. I assumed someone else had already had the majority of it.

The Devil’s Snare is a plant which as fast as it grows and reacts might be able to regenerate.

I will have to think some more about the chess board, how someone could have crossed without having pieces smashed.

Morning all! I am logging on from my Kindle Fire for a change. We have a sunny morning but showers are forecast. My rash has almost disappeared, thank goodness, and my eye infection seems to be slowly improving with the drops. Chores call, see you later.

I think perhaps the potions were spelled to refill automatically. I don’t know why they would be if the Chamber was only to be entered after the threat was past, but maybe someone (Dd) was supposed to check it several times while the threat existed. Of course Dumbledore should not have needed to meet the challenges, he should have had countermeasures so he would not have to actually face any of the challenges.

Devil’s Snare would have gone back to dormant state after its prey escaped or was consumed.

The Chessboard would have been spelled to reset automatically after each “game”.

The Key could not have unbent the damaged wing.

The troll would remain unconcious until the effects of whatever rendered it unconcious wore off. Of course, if Quirrel really did have a “special touch” with trolls, why did he need to knock it out? I know it saved Harry the trouble, but it doesn’t really make much sense to me.

So it was logical which showed previous passage and wich did not. Of course, we did decide that things did not have to make objective sense in order to move the story forward. ;)

Deanie I’m wondering if we were meant to assume that Quirrell/Voldemort had enough power to overcome the barriers, fire and defensive chess men, thereby leaving the scenes untouched for anyone following behind. Quirrell didn’t seemed surprised that Harry had turned up. I don’t think Jo has ever been asked this question. Obviously it makes it more interesting that the trio between them managed to cope with the challengers and it was necessary to keep the surprise about Q/V until the final chamber. I’m just curious about the thought processes behind the scenario.

Well, we do know that Quirrell had everything except how to get past Fluffy when Harry heard him and Snape in the forrest. And of course he didn’t know how to get the stone from the mirror.

So maybe he could nullify most of the trials, but the key had only one solution and knocking out the troll may have been the expedient way to get past. Perhaps there is a spell or potion that nullifies or freezes the Devil’s Snare, and the chess set could have had a counterspell so he didn’t have to play through.

The other teachers did trust him and I can imagine them at least giving him hints. He did have a lot more time to work out countermeasures than the trio had. With both V and Q working on the problems knowing what to expect, and months to plan he could have, in fact should have, done much better than 3 children going in “cold”. ;)

I really dislike the time stamp being off. There is no way to tell how long it has been since the last post. At least for me. I guess I could do the math from what time it is now after I post but then it doesn’t seem as important to know.

I am enjoying the remarks about the book. I know I haven’t made any but that is normal for me.

I had to decide if I wanted to mow when the grass was still wet or wait unti it got hotter. I decided to do it while the grass was still damp. Now I am waiting until I quit sweating to take my shower. It is suppose to be in the 90’s today and the rest of the week so I had no option to wait until it was not as hot. One of these days I will weed with my weed wacker instead of mowing. I know my grandson is suppose to do it for me but he has not called in a month for me to go get him. I guess his new job is taking up all his time. The trouble is I have forgotten which string goes on the electric or the gas model. I will have to think about it for awhile so I can restring it but not today.

The first segment of The Katniss Chronicles for CATCHING FIRE is due to be up sometime today.

My daughter and I are heading out today to visit some antique shops. This will be, I think, our first day of summer pleasure. She has been out of school for over a month and it has been nothing but stress.

Cabbage, cauliflower, brussel sprouts, and broccoli were all created through human cultivation and all descended directly from wild kale.

I did not know that.

Good evening!

Daughter had a friend home after school. So I need a little lie down in a dark room to recover!! I do joke, I am fond of this friend, and they had a lot of fun. Even if they were a bit giggly.

My BIL has been in hospital for the last few days. This is my DS’s older brother, not my sister’s partner. He has had a series of mini strokes over the last few years. Things are a bit worrying.

Ironsos, I did not know that either, how interesting.

Graymayne, I am glad you are almost back to normal.

ASTI, we took my daughter’s friend with us to see The Color Purple. They were fine, no problem, but it is amazing the tiring effect there is of having an extra child with you. It is as if their presence throws off the balance of normal interaction. Maybe it is the constant chatter about things that have no importance or interest to you. I’m sorry you have someone in the hospital to worry about. The worry eats at you, even when you are doing other things, necessary things and things that should be pleasurable.

Lady Hawe I had been zooming in and out of the Catching Fire site earlier today but finally settled down to listen to it tonight. The quality has been maintained so I will have something to keep me going over the summer.

Ironsos That’s a new one on me, too! The only one of those that I actually enjoy is broccoli.

Asti I’m sorry to hear about your BIL, strokes are not good news.

This city is brilliant. We’ve wandered around a few times, got lunch from food carts and tried to move into Powell’s City of Books, which is an amazing book store! It’s supposed to be one of the biggest of book stores? I may have bought nine books?

Asti and Graymayne: The only one I have not eaten is Kale. I love all the others.

Going to be 100F plus starting Wednesday. Should last for seven days or so. But it’s a dry heat.
Whoever came up with the spelling of Wednesday was an idiot.

Hello Potterboy and Felipe. Hope you have a great time.

POTTERBOY, thanks for checking in with us and telling us what is going on there in Portland. We all wish we were with you.

We ended up having to take our 16 year old boy cat to an emergency vet for the night. We have known for some months he was beginning to have issues with his kidneys and have been trying to find food he was willing to eat. In the last 24 hours he quit eating but was still drinking but he was obviously failing. The vet is keeping him for a temporary fix of a day or so on an IV drip. We know this will not make him well but we hope it will make him feel better temporarily so we can bring him home to say our goodbyes. My DS and I are distraught tonight. Our daughter had a headache and went to take a nap. She does not know we are one cat less in the house tonight.

Lady Hawke I know how you feel about your cat because we went through the same scenario. It is emotionally a very painful time for all concerned, be thankful that it is Summer which makes outdoor distractions possible. {{{{{{{HUGS}}}}}}}

PotterBoy90 Nine books, wow! Have a wonderful time. Say Hi to Felipe for me.

Ironsos Blame the Vikings, it was Woden’s Day in the first instance, followed by Thor’s Day and Freya’s Day. Very long-lived these gods, lol.

I was able to listen to The Katniss Chronicles today. I started yesterday but there were distractions and by last night I was in no mood to listen. Like you, GRAYMAYNE, I was happy to hear the quality has been maintained.

I posted the link for The Katniss Chronicles on Facebook. One of my friends asked why I would listen to something that was “unofficial and unauthorized”. I think there is a miscomprehension that unofficial and/or unauthorized means something is badly done and/or illegal. I had to assure him it was of the highest quality and they were obviously permitted to do it because they do not receive compensation for their efforts. It is an act of love. I think a lot of people associate the word unauthorized with being disrespectful and scandalous.

GRAYMAYNE, unfortunately summer means we are deep in hibernation here. Today is meant to be 99F (37.2C) and the next two days are meant to be 100F (37.8C) with some amount of additional heat index piled on top of the real numbers. So, although the weather may look beautiful through the window, being outside, in practice, is miserable.

We are headed over to the vet’s office to visit our boy. Then, I need to be at the doctor’s office while my DS undergoes his stress test.

Thank you Graymayne. I had forgotten the origin stories.

Point to ponder: If a Dentist makes his/hers money from bad teeth then why should I use what
4 out of 5 of them recommend.

You’re a sick puppy, Ironsos! I love it! ;)

Lady Hawke I hope your boy is much improved. ;)

Potterboy I hope you and Felipe hqwve a great time!! ;)

I did not go to my appointment with my oncologist. His nurse called because he was not in the office today. We moved it to Friday afternoon. It had to be this week. Next week, in addition to the holiday on Thursday, I have an appointment for an echocardiogram on Tuesday. Then my oncologist is going to be on vacation the next week. Even if he weren’t, I have an appointment to see my cardiologist on the 11th and the sleep study people want me to get my CPAP machine as soon as my doctor signs the papers and the insurance approves it.

And sometime in August I need to see the dentist for a cleaning and to take care of this filling that broke in 2011. ;)

Good evening!

I have become a slave to my new technology, and got the Wimbledon app for my phone. It’s been quite the day of upsets today. Might the UK finally get a British winner???!!

My BIL was released from hospital today, but has to go back for more tests, including one involving a tube being inserted into somewhere a man really doesn’t want a tube to go. He is not looking forward to that!

Lady Hawke, I am sorry about your catty.

PB and Felipe, have a great time, and please keep the updates coming! Not everyone is on facebook, so if you have time to pop in here, it would be great. And I think I need to visit that bookshop!

Oh joy… my tv was just interrupted with a severe storm alert. Checked the radar & there is a rather nasty looking red & purple blob crossing the Potomac & heading straight at me, travelling @ 35 mph… Man if the power goes out I will just spit! It is near 100 degrees out & 100% humidity.

We had a fine day today but it wasn’t all that warm.

Won and Mistic Willow I hope you will both escape anything nasty.

Deanie That’s quite a social calendar you have in prospect, lol. Most of mine are like that too:)
