Thank goodness you are getting some treatment. :)

I am busy, busy, busy. I just took my MIL to dialysis. I left her there. She now feels comfortable enough and I no longer sit in the lobby for hours. I have many chores and things to do. :(

Birthday breakfast with my kids which my MIL will miss due to dialysis. It’s my daughter’s birthday today.

Soccer picnic today from 1:00-7:00

  • Soccer in the Beach Tournament tomorrow from 9:00-4:00pm.

We were threatened with rain in the weather forecast last night but this morning was beautiful, in the shade, so I counted butterflies then relaxed. After a mushroom omelette I settled down in front of the TV to watch athletics in the Olympic stadium, the crowd was huge. Although there has been a thin, grey cloud cover all afternoon it has only begun to rain now, so I’m happy with that.

I waited from 3:45 until 8 PM last night for a repair man that did not come. I was afraid to go in the kitchen to try to cook dinner because if he showed up he was going to have to be on the floor in front of my stove to repair the dishwasher. I called him 5 PM to find out if he was coming. He called me back at 5:12 to tell me that although he had been held up he was picking up my part and would be on his way. At 7 PM I left a message for him to call me, let me know if he was coming or not. At 8 PM I called and left a message that as it was too late for me to have to cook dinner we were going out to look for food.

He called at about 10 AM this morning to tell me had an emergency at 5:30 and that my part wasn’t available anyway, that it would probably not be in until later in the week. I asked him to inform me in the future if he was not going to be able to make an appointment.

Last Friday night we spent driving all over town looking for my DS’s wallet. Last night we sat waiting at home, unable to procede with dinner and our evening, because we were waiting for someone to come and tear the kitchen up.

Good evening!

I forgot to ask for this last night, but if you could all spare a prayer, spell, energy or happy thoughts for my sister’s BF, I’d be very grateful! This weekend he is doing The Three Peaks Challenge, climbing the three highest mountains, (or hills with delusions of grandeur for those of you in the US,) in England, Scotland and Wales on three consecutive days. He is raising money for two very deserving charities, AND given my sister a quiet weekend alone!

Graymayne, I watched the sky getting darker and darker as the day went on. It finally started to rain gently at about 4pm, though it is still hot and muggy here.

MM, I hope you enjoy your busy weekend, and Happy Birthday to your daughter!

Won, I hope you have enough loopy stuff left to help with any ongoing discomfort. It sounds like it’s going to be rough repairing the damage. I’m sending a hug.

I looked at Time and Date.com this morning to check on sunset time. If you look at the whole page of the month of July you can see how the hours of sunlight diminish this month with ever-increasing speed. Make the most of what is left of Summer while it is here, it started so late this year in the UK.

I’ve just followed instructions and copied a PDF document to my Kindle Fire. Perhaps I’m a bit slow on the uptake but it wasn’t easy. True to my Hufflepuff nature I plodded on, finally understanding that when the instruction to “copy” meant copy and paste I finally succeeded. The PDF subsequently works slightly differently when on the KF but I will get the hang of it eventually. It means that I can have instructions for our new answerphone when I am in the living room rather than only on the PC in our “office”. I am now in urgent need of a cup of coffee! Both my men are in different venues down south so I have to be self reliant, and careful not to have a medical emergency.

ASTI, is this a three day holiday weekend since they are climbing three consecutive days? Is this the last day or the second? Regardless, I hope all climb safely and your sister’s BF does well.

I have ignored the laundry as long as possible. We were out and about a bit yesterday in response to our “grounding” on Friday evening. My DS successfully hung the wall mounted glass door cabinet over my chest of drawers in the bedroom before we went out, one less extraneous thing in my living room.

We saw a very silly and violent movie featuring many well know people, Red 2. One of the two leading ladies was Helen Mirren playing a very over the top professional assassin, retired from MI6. The other two female leads were Mary-Louise Parker, as an adrenalin junky girl friend of Bruce Willis, and Catherine Zeta-Jones, a Russian General. The leading men were Bruce Willis and John Malkovich, both retired CIA operatives, with Sir Anthony Hopkins, a former cold war scientist, and David Thewlis, a high end arms trader, in a highly featured roles. There was an extreme amount of violence but it is fairly comic book in nature because no one could survive what any of these people survive intact. They would all have been dead before the movie was five minutes along. I must say I enjoyed that Helen Mirren, an older female, was portrayed as much more deadly than all the other deadly characters. They all felt fear and esteem for her talents. They even managed to fit in a short episode of her playing a farcical version of Elizabeth I.

GRAYMAYNE, most of the people who are not posting here are not posting any more frequently on Facebook. We don’t see JEN here anymore but she almost never posts on Facebook either. The only time we see her there is if she announces she is headed into a theatre to see a show. MM, has posted less and less frequently here but she isn’t hanging out at Facebook either. She posts photos of the new grandson and soccer photos but there is no conversation.

The Leaky Polls page on Facebook has much less activity than we do here. I almost never post anything there. DR LEW posts very brief comments on her personal page on Facebook, a great amount of it professionally related, not directed to any of us at all.

I’m like you though. I very deeply miss the activity here.

Mostly what I can glean from Facebook is people are still alive but there is no chatting going on over there either. People make brief comments on their own pages once every week or three which tell me they are still breathing but those posts do not turn into conversations.

The group appears to be spreading out and not just here. They aren’t over at Facebook carrying on without the people here.

People may make a comment on their own page at Facebook and several members of the group past or more recent may click on “Like” under the comment, usually meaning they are acknowledging the saw the comment. One or two people may make an observation under the comment but many times it isn’t really a conversation between “us”. Their other friends are making comments too. Ninety eight percent of the time a comment made on Facebook never turns into a conversation between “us”.

I don’t know what has happened to COOLG. I know she went out to lunch with some of the ladies in the family last week because she posted a photo. She hasn’t been here posting at all but I know from that photo that she is alive. She hasn’t posted anything else over there in a few weeks.

I spend a lot of time either reading or playing video games trying to ignore the pain I’m in. I have a pinched L2 nerve and have had for several years. I have not gotten a MRI because I am not ready for shots or back surgery. I will have to have back surgery but I’m aiming for later rathar than sooner. I bought an inversion table to try and help decompress the spine – it helps some. I am unable to visit the chiropractor until I change insurances – which will be December. I do take a medication called Neurontin that helps calm the nerve – but it leaves me feeling loopy and not very socialable.

That being said – my Furlough Friday I spent with a mild head cold – which I did not realize was a head cold until my husband caught it. Saturday morning I spent cleaning the house and Saturday afternoon playing games with my boys. I paid for my house cleaning yesterday. My husband had a lot of homework so I spent the day keeping my children occupied and quietish.

I start school again one month from now and I’m in year 4/5 for my bachelors. I fully intend to get my masters though so I still have quite a ways to go.

I am currently reading Flyte – the second book in the Septimus Heap series – while I wait for people to finish reading TCC and COS. Also, I’m playing Lego Harry Potter years 5-7 :)

Also, I have kinda “moved away” from Facebook. A lot of what is posted on Facebook either feels like boasting or people being nasty to one another. I keep up with my running groups (I run, slowly, for exercise – it is the only exercise I have ever kept up with for a long period of time) on Facebook and if weren’t for them I’d quit.

And in other news, I am going to see my favorite band in concert Wednesday night. This is the band that I got to meet and got signatures from two years ago. The lead singer is standing between me and my husband in my avatar.

I have to go get the car serviced today and then to go purchase the dreaded school supplies. Fortunately, this year there is nothing that designates a particular name brand. It is finally getting less specific. She needs a certain number of spiral lined page notebooks, packages of lined paper, pens, pencils, etc., nothing exotic, just expensive. When she was younger we had to purchase long lists which required packages of items of a certain brand and a certain count, even specific colors.

My parent’s home has been in limbo ever since we went to the seller’s closing three weeks ago. The buyer’s were supposed to close the next week but they had not yet had the house appraised. When they finally had the house appraised two minor repairs had to be completed and they had to be completed by the next day or the appraiser was going on vacation and would not be available to check the repairs until he returned. He did return last week and did check the work and approved it. We were told the closing would be last Wednesday, then last Friday and here we are sitting on Monday with no word. They money has to be cut loose by the bank making the loan. I have cancelled our reservations in New Orleans and made new ones which I will have to cancel entirely if the house does not close by tomorrow during the day. I am feeling frantic. I’ve wasted a lot of time on searching out hotels that accommodate our needs with two elderly people on walkers that is also in a convenient place to accommodate our plans.

I found one place that seemed appropriate until I decided to look at it on Google Maps. My mother had requested a nice lobby where they could sit and watch people if I took my daughter out adventuring somewhere they couldn’t go. I found such a lobby but once I looked at the hotel from the air, the rooms were actually in separate buildings from the lobby and required quite a hike. The hotel had no parking lots. Guests had to find parking on the streets. My parents would have had to hike from outer buildings to the main building with the lobby. So, I immediately cancelled those reservations.

I made more reservations at another hotel only to find that some of the rooms had no windows at all. I’m afraid to stay in an old hotel or any hotel with no window. Not only would it be claustrophobic, it would be a fire hazard. I can’t believe they are allowed to rent a room with no exterior exit by way of a window. In my state a room cannot be considered a bedroom unless it has a window. Otherwise it is a closet. I cancelled those reservations. I made reservations at another hotel and they asked me if I wanted to pay $30 more a day for a street view. I declined and then I went and looked at the hotel. If you don’t pay the extra for the street view you have an interior view of lower roof completely covered in air conditioning equipment. I cancelled those reservations.

I finally found a room in a proper hotel in which you can drive up to the front door, unload your car, and allow the valet to take the car away and park it until you want it again. All the rooms have windows and the lobby is where it should be. Now, I will probably have to cancel those reservations too.

Morning

I’m sorry I haven’t posted or been lurking for the last week. I just forgot. I have been on FB because I look for the free Ebooks every day. I have the links come to FB instead of my email so I do check there every day. I have no ideal what I was doing last weekend but I did go out to lunch with my daughter and my ex sister-in-law on Tuesday. She was up from Georgia for a tax convention and we met for lunch. We had a nice time. It has probably been over 35 years since she was married to my oldest brother but we still keep in touch.

The rest of the time I have been upset. My cousin died. She is two years younger than myself. She also had a stroke but was not able to recover from it. It was not the stroke directly but infections due from having the stroke that caused her death. It just brought a lot of bad memories of my stroke and what all I had to go thru to recover as well as I have. It seems that when my DS died, it was the beginning of relatives in our age group. Before then it had always been relatives that were older.

I am going to TN Friday with my brother (Santa) and his wife. My other brothers are going to. We are attending the family reunion on Saturday. The boys are sitting up a memorial table like they did at my brother’s memorial service. This is for the family from TN that were not able to attend his memorial. My cousin will speak. Afterwards we are going to spread my brother’s ashes where he wanted. It is strange that my brother did not want a funeral but he is having two memorials. His memorial was so moving. So much better than a funeral. I am seriously thinking of being cremated and only having a small memorial service for the family. They can bury my ashes next to my DS. I have to look into that.

Won I am glad you are getting something done for your mouth. I was afraid that the bone would be too damaged for implants. I know they drill into your bone to place the anchor for the teeth. I know this because I was going to have it done to replace my missing bottom teeth because of an injury. Unfortunately they couldn’t do it and put a partial instead. Not as good as having your real teeth but a whole lot better than nothing.

My DS is home after his ukulele camp break and we have been looking at all the photos he took. He suddenly realised how much the children in the group have grown over the seven years this event has been going.

Except for the warm temperatures, this could be April, with all the showers of rain we are experiencing! I find it interesting that our most common butterflies, the white ones, seem to be much hardier than the fancy coloured ones which are nowhere to be seen if it isn’t warm and sunny.

Thanks! I’m feeling better about the Facebook situation now.

Good evening!

I must admit, although I try and post most days, sometimes I just type a big, long ranty post to vent my feelings, then press delete and watch it all disappear. That way I get it out of my system without dropping it all on you. Though I know you would listen if I did send it.

Anyway…..

Graymayne, so far we have avoided most of the rain. Big clouds gather, but we’ve had nothing heavy. I have been looking for butterflies after reading your posts about them. We have quite a lot around, and I am pleased that the catties do not see them as prey, and just ignore them.
I am hoping for the hot weather to return. I have next week off, and am taking daughter to our usual holiday place. I intend to live on the beach!
Were either of your men in my area of the South?

CoolG, it is good to see you, but I am sorry for your news. I hope the family reunion gives you some peace, and some fun too.

Lady Hawke, I am SO pleased the school supply situation has got easier. It was quite ridiculous at the old school! It looks like I might get off reasonably cheaply this year…… If my son gets into The Sixth Form, he no longer has to wear uniform, and my daugher says she just needs skirts, blouses and socks, none of which have to have the school logo on them, so can be picked up cheaply. The only big expense will be new school shoes. And she’ll need a new winter coat. Oh, and a new school bag. Ok, maybe not that cheaply! Never mind!
We had a weekend in a posh hotel several years ago, and were tempted by a very good deal to upgrade to a suite. The suite was lovely, (I’ve lived in smaller places,) but both the bedrooms overlooked a flat roof above the kitchens, with all the associated noise and extractors, and it was a pretty horrid experience.

Korey, wow, you’re starting year 4!? Time flies. I hope it all continues to go well.

Graymayne, one bit of Facebook news for you…..remember Ginny Weasley? She is now expecting her third child.

CoolG It is good to see you but I’m sorry to hear about your cousin and the memories that were stirred up.

My DS has spent nearly all evening sorting out nice photos of people at the camp. There is a tradition of swopping pics to hold on to the fun.

Asti BigG would have been the nearest, he was at Glastonbury somewhere, involved in ancient weapons. They had twelve hours of rain but he boasted that he was dry and comfortable in his hammock under a tarp. He is so cool! He takes after his Dad and, to some extent, my Dad, in being skilled at practical things but he has a good brain as well. All I can claim in this is teaching him some knots when he was about eight and planting the idea that cooking was really chemistry which you could end up eating. I certainly have no camping experience, motor caravanning doesn’t really qualify. My DS was in Suffolk and only had some overnight rain and enough sun to give him a pink glow.

Gosh! Three children already. Doesn’t time fly?

Korey You are very brave. I am really not into pain.

I really should be in bed.

COOLG, I’m sorry to hear you have lost a cousin. As you know that is what my spring and summer has all been about and I do feel for you. I have first hand experience of how all that gets in your head.

In addition to school supply shopping we also made the purchase of shoes. My daughter has a hard to fit foot and is very picky about her shoes. She doesn’t believe in tolerating a bit of discomfort. So, we take her to a shop where they still measure her foot and have a wide variety of sizes from very narrow and tiny to very large and wide in stock. She has been wearing the same shoe since she was eight years old and now she is thirteen. She has gone through at least two pair a year every year during that time. Each pair costs about $140. They come in a wide width and have soft leather and multiple Velcro straps that can each be adjusted separately. I never had a pair of shoes that costly until I was grown but I also had fairly easy to fit feet, except for being comparatively long. I wore a 9 M until my daughter was born and pretty much any 9M would do. I could put up with a little discomfort in dress shoes if they suited me. She will wear these day in and day out until they fall off her feet.

At last!!!

I have been without a computer for 4 days!! My netbook would not connect to the hotels wi-fi or through my phones hot-spot connection.

We got back home about an hour and a half ago and I came here as soon as I could. ;)

Graymayne I still do not have a Facebook account and I really doubt that I will get one in the near future. So, I am completely out of the loop with what goes on there. ;)

Anyway, I think it may be time to retire my netbook. We shall see if it can be used anyplace other than at home. I really don’t need another “home only” computer. ;)
