Good evening!

Ironsos, oooooooh, I WANT ONE! They’re gorgeous. But while the cat we saw had similar sharp features, the coat appeared to be without spots. Thank you for looking though.

Yesterday and today, in the seclusion of my own garden, I was faced with the unpleasant side of nature. Hornets (large wasps) predate butterflies, MY butterflies feeding on MY Buddleia trees. It was a nasty shock! I am very fond of my butterflies, they have brought joy and pleasure to me and my neighbour and to my DS who has taken many photos of them. I have been aware of the presence of the hornet for a week or two and until yesterday all it had done was pester the butterflies as they fed, making them take off in alarm, only to settle on another blossom nearby. I checked hornets out on the web but no mention was made of butterflies being one of the insects they prey upon. I feel so angry, and so useless.

Graymayne, I’ve looked them up, and find they will use the masticated butterflies, and other insects, to feed to their larvae.

Asti I had a nasty feeling that might be their fate. I’ve just found a site called something like “A Bug’s Life” and found them referring to the hornet as “the gentle giant”! I sent them a short, sharp comment to tell them of the views of a butterfly enthusiast.

GRAYMAYNE, I would have a very difficult time watching the attack of the hornets as well.

The daughter went back to school today, still coughing and sneezing, but generally feeling better. I’m sure she will be quite worn out by the time she gets out of school.

I am off to do the parental shopping and doctor office visit.

Decided I do not like my new mechanical treadmill so I sold it for a reasonable price and ordered an electric
one. Only took a $40 hit on the old one. Still a walking type. Top speed 5mph.

Good evening!

I am LOVING finishing work at 4. Usually, as soon as I get home, I am straight into cooking tea, busy busy busy. Now, I can have a nice leisurely sit down and relax, and even have time for a bath!

I made a Waldorf salad tonight with the last of Sunday’s chicken. It’s a bit of a favourite of mine, really tasty and fresh. We also need to go blackberrying again……I’ve found a fab sounding blackberry curd tart recipe.

Ironsos, I hope you like the new machine. 5mph is practically jogging!

The daughter called at midday from school with a blazing headache. Since I also had a headache in process I did not argue with her. I think I am having a less impressive case of whatever my daughter and DS are having, either that, or I don’t have the luxury of giving in. When I arrived at the school to pick my daughter up the school nurse was in the front office and said the illness is running amuck in the school. I just sent my daughter back too soon.

Tomorrow I have to take my nother forher final follow up visit to the cataract doctor. Otherwise, I would go nowhere. I need a quiet day for my head and nose too.

I need your thoughts and good wishes please, for two different reasons.

My DS went for two job interviews last week, both of which will pay at least £8000 a year more than he is on this standby job, plus provide a car plus bonuses.
He is quite enjoying his current job, and there is potential for a LOT of further development for him, and I am more than happy to be very short of money for a few years if it means he is happy.
He has been offered the first job, and they are putting together a package to offer him, including a car.
He hopes to hear from the second job tomorrow. The second job pays less, but that is the one he wants. It also come with a car.
I want, with all my heart, for him to be happy in his work. I know the car is a big thing. I have just paid out £3000 to get us out of the old one. What I WILL NOT COPE WITH is him taking a job he hates for the sake of a car.
And he doesn’t understand, these last few months have taken everything I have, both financially and especially emotionally.

The second reason is that my son is playing in a golf club Finals Comp tomorrow. He plays the semi in the morning, so, if they win that, he’ll be playing 36 holes of golf, and walking about 10 miles. This is a big, countywide comp, involving golf clubs that are a LOT more posh and exclusive than the one my DS and son play for! Wish him luck!

ASTI, is your DS definitely going to be miserable in either or both of these potential new jobs? I understand your not wanting him to be miserable. A miserable man brings misery home with him. I wish he could find a happy job that still gives him some benefits. Frankly, I have been worried he was in misery in the current job and was only sticking with it for the money. So, I’m pleased that is not the issue.

CONGRATULATIONS to the son!!!! When is this ten mile march going to occur? If someone told me I had to play 36 holes of golf I would cry my eyes out. So glad he is pleased. I know you all are proud. Have you heard anything from the job your DS prefers? Does he prefer it because he feels he could be happy there?

My mother has her prescription for new glasses. So, we have been released by the cataract surgeon for two years. Yesterday my father was released by the tooth implant surgeon for one year. So, I guess they have to make those appointments.

My daughter is very upset. There is a legal challenge to fanfiction, an attempt to make it a felony to write fanfiction, even fanfiction for which the author makes to money from posting on free websites.

Please go to this website, sign up and sign the petition to stop the attempt to make writing fanfiction illegal.

https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/petition/stop-sopa-2013/LMzMVrQF

I understand authors don’t want anyone else to make money off their characters. Even now fanfiction cannot be sold. It is just a means of fans paying tribute to their favorite authors. It is ridiculous to make it a felony. Fanfiction has given many authors the means of learning their craft before beginning to write their own characters and stories. Many authors have been spawned from the Harry Potter fanfiction websites. They learned to write Harry and then went out and wrote their own books.

Hello again!

I’m feeling slightly more coherant now. There is a pic on FB and at CC. Son is delighted. DS is glowing. The team had huge support from their home club, and are now through to the National Finals in three weeks time! He’ll be representing his County!

Lady Hawke, the 36 holes and ten mile hike was today. It’s just as well he’s on a high from winning! AND he’s playing in a different competion tomorrow.
No news from the second job yet. We know they were interviewing other candidates today, so hopefully he’ll hear tomorrow. I think this job would really suit my DS. Not so sure about the first one.
I’ll certainly look at that petition. It all sounds very silly. People have always written fanfiction. And, as you say, learn their craft and be inspired by it.

Thank you to those of you who wished me a happy birthday Friday! :)
I started my classes on the 26th.
Mondays I have newspaper at noon until I go to a history of photography class fro 3-4:30. If the news room is still open then, I head back over.
No tuesday classes. Wednesdays I have the same afternoon schedule, but I have color photography from 8 a.m. until noon when i get to the newsroom.
Thursdays I have a “careers in photography” class from 10:30-2:30 (more on this soon). Every other Friday I have an editing and production journalism class. I also have an online management class, as well as an online portion to the class that meets once every other week.

My careers in photography class sounds like it will be really interesting. It’s really open ended and we’re left to study what we want to get into, as well as build ourselves websites, portfolios, business cards, etc. We only meet on campus half of the Thursdays we meet. The other half we’ll be meeting at photo studios and newspapers downtown to learn from professionals. One week we’ll actually be headed out to San Francisco for a day to see a studio and do some shooting.
The only assignments in that class are a group presentation on a field in photography, and to shadow someone who has a job we’d like to do.
Awesome right?

I’d catch up but I’m headed out for two of my friends’ birthdays soon, so I need to do homework. I feel terrible never catching up but I hope everyone is well! And I feel safe in telling Ironsos that he needs to behave himself while I am away :P

ASTI, I don’t think you can sign the petition. It is on the White House website. It is an American law. Unfortunately, that means it sort of unevenly affects only US citizens.

I played nine holes of golf one time. It was nine holes more than I ever wanted to play. It was like a forced march across the desert. It was hot and sunny and it felt as if those nine holes were never going to end. It took forever. My friend and I had to play the nine holes as our final exam for the class. We basically putted the entire nine holes, not being able to get the balls airborne. It was awful. As I said I would be a weeping puddle if I had to walk ten miles and play 36 holes. If I had to play again the next day I would die. This is the main reason why I am not a successful amateur social golfer.

PB, glad to hear the new year is going well. YOU CAN SIGN THE PETITION.

PB That sounds like a very practical course which will prepare you well for a career in journalism. I suppose the only thing to add to those skills is to be able to turn out work very quickly on demand. Anyway, I wish you a happy and successful year and a belated Happy Birthday:/

Lots of going on this weekend in Atl, Dragon-con, Black pride, Baseball, College Football, and NASCAR. I think this will be a good weekend to curl up with a good book or some wood working, anything to stay off of the streets.

Graymayne not me. My DS. ;)

Atlanta has a very thriving convention business, pretty much all year round. And they are trying to attract more conventions and sports related actiities. ;)

Ironsos isn’t #10 one you use? Or is that “fluffy”? ;)

Aloha, y’all! I am still alive and kicking. 367 days and a wake-up until I will be retired!! ;)

If anyone tells you that getting a CPAP machine leads to instant improvement in your sleep quality or your awake performance, they are not always accurate! I am sure some people notice a marked difference, but not me. I may be sleeping more quietly, but I am not getting better quality sleep and my awake time shows no marked improvement. I still need my naps and I do not wake up feeling “bright-eyed and bushy-tailed”. ever!! ;)

PotterBoy Are you planning a career as a papperazi? I enjoyed my one class in photography. It was 30-something years ago and concentrated mostly on film development (black & white). I suppose you do not have darkroom time with all the digital photography and digital editing available now. Enjoy!! ;)

My mother has her new prescription for new glasses. I can’t imagine they are very strong. I have it but the numbers mean nothing to me. It is marked she is still going to have bifocals. She has had really large “mod” size frames since the 1970s. From what I have seen when I have taken my daughter and MIL in for glasses she is not going to find many large frames now. I have a feeling she is going to have a difficult time finding frames she likes. She has said she wants the ones that turn into sunglasses in bright light. I hope she can get those in bifocals. MR DEANIE, I guess I’m directing a lot of this at you.
