26 F (-3 C) with a couple inches on the ground and snowing steadily.

Got everything done shopping wise and cards mailed. Now I can hibernate for a couple days if need be.

Good evening!

I really must get my Christmas cards written. I have no idea when the last posting date for the US is, but it can only be 10 days or so. I bought a load of cards yesterday, most of which have been commandeered by daughter for her school friends, lol.

CoolG, I hope….no, I am SURE, you will love your Kindle Fire!

MM, thanks for letting us know about your first day back. Do take it easy, xx

Hello everyone… I’ve had a positively lovely weekend. I spent it @ Georgetown University Hospital. Why you ask? Because I had /have Pancreatitis! Lucky me… Oh, and I need my gall bladder out. Merry Christmas & Happy New Year Won_Two

It has been another tiring day, sort of a constant coming to terms with the new reality.

My daughter did sing in her choir concert tonight. Unfortunately, several dresses did not arrive in time, hers being one of the missing ones. The choir director scoured the cupboards for likely temporary replacements. She sent her home with one a bit too large and much, much too long, a fact I only realized when my daughter struggled into it five minutes before leaving the house. I had to do a quick and sloppy job hemming it with safety pins. It looked a fright. The daughter did well. Although all the songs were chorus pieces with no solos the choir director complimented her that she could hear her all the way from the top row.

MM, I’m glad you made it through your day, I absolutely understand the need to sleep overwhelming the need to eat. You just can’t do that frequently or long term. I find it is hard to eat these days.

I don’t know if I’m going to manage Christmas cards. We’ll see.

Hi Mr Deanie!!! waving

I thought it was just me. Getting paranoid about Leaky not letting me in. >.<

Hi everyone! Busy busy busy getting the house cleared and cleaned so we can start decorating this weekend. We will finally hit the above freezing mark. Yay us (that’s you too ironsos )!!!

I’ll resume baking after most of the decorations are up.

I buy gifts but most are practical ones like warm weather clothing, shoes/boots, or bags. New clothes and new undergarments are all wrapped up as gifts. More to open even if those are items that normally get bought regardless of any occasion. I do acquire them ahead of time (as early as September) and wrap them up quickly so no one is tempted to use them right away.
That way, the expense is staggered and I don’t feel panic in the few weeks leading to Christmas.

We get so excited receiving new underwear for Christmas. LOL!!!

Off to get the rugs cleaned. See y’all later.

Won-Two take care of yourself. I am glad (if that’s the right term) that you were not travelling when this happened. Try not to bite the doctor’s head off, it really isn’t their fault. And don’t scare the nurses, not even the trainees. After all, you are our tall, gracious Nordic supermodel and should be nice to the masses. ;)

As the DS noted above, the cards and woodwork are all on their way. ;)

The first card we got was from Rihannon, too ;)

Josephine I will be thinking of the warm smells that will be emanating from your kitchen soon. ;)

Back to work for me. The elected official who is my boss is throwing us a Christmas luncheon, not to be confused with an office party, today. It will be pork barbeque sandwiches with chips and baked beans. The desserts should be pretty good though. I do not know if I will attend. We have to go in ones or twos because the phones must still be covered. ;)

Won, I hope you are now feeling better since a week has passed since you posted your news. I admit, my first thought was, “thank goodness you didn’t go with Sally.” At least you know you made the right choice.
Now Leaky’s up and running again, can we have an update please?

Josephine, me too! It’s the only time people truly appreciate receiving new underwear! Lots of practical presents here this year, Christmas needs to be as inexpensive as possible.

Hugs for everyone. xx

LEAKY IS BACK!!!

How I have missed thee! YAYAYAYAYAYAY!

Won – I have had pancreatitis three times. Not fun since they don’t feed you until the infection goes away. It’s part of the treatment….No food or water. :(. My gall bladder went out too. That one was not too bad but I was out of work for over two weeks. :(
Please take care.

I bought my Christmas cards but I have been in the hospital with my mother-in-law. I should have brought them here it would have been easy and fast to do it here in the hospital. My mother in law had a mild heart attack. She had one artery blocked 90%. She has some of my same health problems. She has been here since Saturday at midnight. I so glad to be on the other side of the bed this time. :) I spent the entire day here Sunday and today. Yesterday my sister in law sat here and I went to babysit my grandson.

My grandson is so adorably cute. I can’t get enough of him. :D

Yippee! We’re back on Leaky:)

My first Christmas card was from Rhiannon and one arrived from Ironsos yesterday, thank you. It took just a week from the date of postmark which I thought was pretty good.

Won_Two I get the feeling that you will not be sorry to see the back of 2013. It has not treated you well:( Coincidentally, when I was in hospital, before my operation for gallstones, an emergency case of panacreatitis was admitted. I can vouch for it being very painful based on what I observed.

This afternoon I went to see Catching Fire and thought it was brilliant! Totally absorbing from start to finish. There was a noticeable change of mood because these characters are all people who are survivors, scarred by their experiences in, and subsequent to, the arena. I’m not surprised that this second film made critics sit up and take notice that this was not YA mush.

Morning

It is -8 degrees here at this moment. I figured it must be cold when it said 60 degrees in the bathroom. I have to have a heater on before I take my shower but it usually is not that cold. I am surprised my dogs are still out. They keep me exercised by going up and down the stairs to let them in and out. Now they wanted back in. It is so cold that my storm door is warped. It does not fit the door frame any more. It does at the bottom but is about 1 1/2 inches open around the top. I wonder if Harley has helped this by jumping on the bottom of the door to let me know he wants in.

Won I hope you are better. It seems when something happens to your body it is not long before something else comes along to make you ill. I wonder why that is. You and my youngest brother are the same age. A little over a year ago my brother started to run to get healthy. He just had to look at his older brothers and myself to see what health conditions were in his future. I pray that this will help him avoid some of our health problems. I know from experience that you are tired of all these medical problems.

MM I am sorry for your mother-in-law and hope she recovers quickly. I am glad it was not you this time too.

I have not seen Catching Fire yet. The weather is not cooperating for me to go to Columbus to the theater. I should have gone when it first came out but I don’t like crowds. My daughter has been busy so I would have gone by myself. I hope it will still be playing when I am able to get out and about.

I have no idea why that post posted. I saw an article on how to use your numerical keypad to
make symbols and I was testing it out.

Anyhow, The wifi is back on at the hotel.

Good evening!

I am very much looking forward to NOT working overtime tomorrow. I will miss the money a lot come payday, but we are getting so busy, and everyone, customers and staff, are getting so stressy and we are under so much pressure, I am SO happy to have three days off before the insanity of the next 10 days!

I am planning to spend tomorrow morning wrapping gifts. I won’t have time to do it all………I fully intend to have a lie in, and son finishes classes at lunchtime, so he will be home. But if I can make a start, then I can get the rest done on Sunday, when they have a golf fun day thingy, and they are taking daughter too.

AND I will get try and get my Christmas cards written! It sounds like a lot of us will be late this year, or for various reasons, unable to get them done. It’s been a difficult year for a lot of us.

I received a package from DEANIE and MR DEANIE today but I won’t say what was in it but it was beautiful. Thank you.

I honestly don’t think I’m going to be doing any Christmas Cards. My mother is working herself to bring my father back to the apartment again and she wants a dryer. At some point in the next few days we have to go out and arrange for a dryer to be delivered to the apartment.

Then, she is more than ready to move forward to the purchase of the house across the street. If she could get her hands on it now she would. She wants my father home so he isn’t at the nursing facility along and so she doesn’t have to go to him and sit for hours. She doesn’t want me to have to drive her back and forth and sit for hours. She wants them in that house across the street so if I have to do something for them we are close. If they are across the street they won’t be living alone all the time anyway. They already have a bedroom suit for my daughter and she is anxious to get it into a bedroom at the house. She can imagine wandering back and forth between the houses and sleeping alternatively in one or the other, having two bedrooms.

The house must have hardwood floors put down after they purchase it, if they get it. There will be a $5000 flooring allowance.

We are going to try to put our tree up. We are going to have to have somewhere to go for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day and we need a tree. My tree is easier to put up than my parent’s tree and we will get more use out of it. If my mother has her way I’ll be over at the apartment packing in January. I started packing in February this year so it will be just a few weeks short of a year since I was packing before.

My daughter has all next week in school before Christmas break. They will be testing most of the week.

Adella It is always good to hear from you!! I hope your studies are going as you would wish. I know you will be a great success. You already are! Hugs! ;)

Lady Hawke is the house across the street already wheelchair accessable? Or does it at least have ground level access (no stairs to get into at least 1 door)? If not, I do hope it is low enough that the ramp does not need to be excessively long.

Working where I do, I know that a proper wheelchair ramp should have no more than one inch of rise for 1 foot of run and a minimum of 36 inches wide. So a single 6 inch tall step requires a minimum ramp length of 6 feet. Two or three steps can make the ramp very long very quickly. Adding corners can make it a bit more manageable, but the turn area must be at least 3 feet square and level, so that does not count as part of the actual ramp, but as a landing.

I looked into adding a ramp to our back deck, but the ramp would need to be at least 50 feet long and we just don’t want too sacrifice the yard space to do that. Not to mention the expense involved.

I am sure the strain of running back and forth all the time is taking a toll on your mother and she really needs relief from that. Yes, it is a strain on you, but given her age and the fact that she is essentially away from home comforts and among strangers, it really adds to her stress. Hugs to her. ;)

The house proper is all on one floor. There is a finished attic bedroom but the other three bedrooms are down. There are minimal single steps into the house, both at the garage and at the front door. They may be 3 or 4 inches tall. It would all be straight in.

There is a bathroom door which will need to be widened. All my doors are the wide doors but the bathroom my father would be using has a smaller bathroom size door. Fortunately, there is plenty of wall space around the door to reframe the door to make a wider entrance.

When I called to inquire about the house the man apologized that he was going to be showing the house with no carpet. He had pulled the carpet up and was not planning on putting any back down. He was offering a $5000 flooring allowance so people could put in what they wished, thinking some might prefer hardwood.

My father had sent out a decree that he did not want a carpeted house as that is one of the issues he finds difficult at the apartment, negotiating the carpeted floor. He said he wanted a hardwood floor or some other hard surface. So, the man having pulled out the carpet seems ideal to us.

They will need to put in some bars in the restroom, maybe pull out a cabinet around the sink and put in a sink on a pillar to make room for some bars. It wouldn’t be a huge job, no more than anyone who decides they want a sink on a stand instead of in a cabinet.

Lady Hawke We built a new bathroom when my brother moved in with us. We put in the bars in the large shower so he could sit down if he needed to. When we moved here in the smaller house, we moved the shower with the bars and put it in place of the tub. I needed it now and since it was no longer needed in the big house, my DS moved all the safety things to the little house for me to use. If I ever need a wheelchair, I could no longer live here without some modifications.

We are expecting 3 inches of snow again today. The roads are just getting clear enough that I would drive so now I have to wait at least 3 or 4 more days. My legs are getting sore from going up and down the stairs so much. The dogs want outside but it is so cold they don’t stay out long. After they are back inside for a little while, they want to go back outside. Hmm is this Friday?

Adella So nice to see you back here. I have some stamps so I will hunt to see if I have any Xmas cards to mail out. I know I have somewhere. I always bought cards but would forget to mail them out in time. I would hand deliver them during Christmas so I would have some left over. Maybe I can figure out CC to find the addresses. Every time I go there lately, I feel like a stranger to the site.

I decided I needed to go outside and put my trash can back in it’s place. Where it was at might make it hard for the postman to deliver the mail. I also went to the mailbox while I was out. After I was back inside I thought I had dropped part of my mail. So back went on the boots and I followed my steps to the mailbox. Did not find any dropped mail. When I came back inside and was taking off my boots , I saw the missing mail. It was on my desk just in a different place than I usually place it.

I had a package and was trying to figure out who it could be from. After opening it, I knew. I put it beside my previous gift from several years ago. I keep it out on my bookshelf all year round. Thank you Mr. Deanie and Deanie.

When I was hunting for my 4 foot tree the other day, I found several shirts that I had saved of my DS. These were checked that I could use as an overshirt during the winter. I washed them and now have one of them on . It is so soft even if it is a winter shirt.. This was one he did not get to wear very long because it got too little. After wearing the same size shirt for years, he gain about 20 lbs so all those shirts were too little across the shoulders.
