Lovely LEW, I’m so pleased that everything is on track and you are not stressing about it. I am sure you will a bit nearer the time, but do try not to! Enjoy the excitement of planning, make sure you oversee your DF’s organisation, lol, and look forward to your wedding day! xx And it’s really good to see that you’ve had some opportunity to read for pleasure.

Graymayne, we just watched The Thirteenth Tale.

*Dr. Lew Hi, and season’s greetings to you too! I’m glad that you are currently de-stressed and fully organised re all the wedding arrangements.

Asti Er, I can’t remember enough of the story of The Thirteenth Tale to have realised that something was amiss in the telling. The plot is quite complex and I was surprised that they had squashed the story into one episode. There was not much focus on the character who was to undertake the writing of the thirteenth tale.

We have just watched the first two-part episode of Silent Witness and found the second half thoroughly confusing and we couldn’t sort out the plot between us:(

I haven’t got very far in the matter of understanding my phone: I’ve tried reading through the official pdf instructions but I don’t seem to be any wiser. Perhaps I just need to go to bed earlier, I see I am late already:(

I hope that you are surviving this current bout of stormy weather. My DS nearly had an accident yesterday morning caused by the low sun making driving tricky. He was waiting, as he thought, to pull out into a main road, halted at what he thought was the correct spot, only to discover that a lorry was hurtling towards him but it managed to swerve around him. Only then did he realise that he was halted at the white line down the centre of the main road!! He was suitably shaken and mortified by his mistake. He is usually an excellent driver because, being an ex-motorcyclist, he is trained to pay close attention to everything to do with road safety, and anticipate trouble.

Dr. Lew – to be so prepared. You must be so proud. :)

I am so glad you are reading the Divergent series. I started Allegiant just this past few days. I read Divergent and Insurgent on my IPad. My daughter gave me Allegiant in hard cover for Christmas. It is a good series. I must confess that I read Insurgent such a long time ago that when I started reading Allegiant I was getting slightly confused with Wolfie’s book. I had to go back and read a few chapters of Insurgent to remind myself of the plot. LOL!

By the way – I loved Wolfie’s book. :)

Morning all! I woke this morning at 9.58am! I think perhaps I might have caught up a little on my backlog of sleep. I forgot to mention last night that I received CoolG’s card yesterday.

Talking of Wolfie, does anyone have any news of her?

Graymayne I am glad you got your card. I know I put too much postage on it but I knew I was not going to make it to the post office. I figured too much postage was better than not enought. I sent out all the cards that I had stamps for. The rest just got lost and I forgot to get additional postage. So none of my family got a card from me this year. I got yours early but Asti’s came last week or during the snow when I did not go to the mailbox every day. When I did, I had 4 cards plus a lot of mail.

I got my truck backed out of the drive way this morning. I parked it by the fence where I could get out. My grandson came by and took me to the stores so I was able to get dog food. He said he could not believe how bad the roads still were in CSL. I told him they had not plowed the road. The main roads were clear. So it was nice to see him and do my shopping. Especially since he helped carry in the groceries. I usually leave the dog food in the truck and only bring in a couple of bags at a time. He carried all 6 bags in for me. He wanted to get a larger bag but I told him I could not carry that big a bag. I get the 15 lb bags and he wanted to get the 30 lb bags. Lol.

Our snow has not started yet. In fact it is warm outside. Not only that today is the first time I have taken my shower without warming the bathroom first. I also have a load of clothes in the wash. Later on tonight I won’t be able to say the same. We are suppose to get 12 inches of snow, then the temperature drop to -40 degrees. It has not gotten that cold since the year we moved here from Mooresville. It was really cold because we had not gotten prepared for the cold weather yet after our move.

The dogs are wanting back in.

Oh it has started with the rain. Then it is suppose to turn to snow and get cold afterward. I hope the rain does not freeze on the power lines before it snows. I will probably freeze if l Lose power in these temperatures.

I decided to pay my bills to see how much money I would have left over. Of course my electric bill was $100 more than last months. This makes me leary of how much it will be with the sub zero weather. I deducted my cable and internet bill but failed to print the receipt. When I checked the bank statement, it was not pending so I will have to wait 2 or 3 days and check again to see if I paid it. It is too much for me to pay twice. Good thing it is not due until the end of the month.

I think I will just cook a roast without potatoes and carrots. I was going to get hamburger but it cost more than the roast.

Okay our bad weather has started. Many schools districts in the area are closing down. Not my distrct, We received a text from the superintendent saying school is open tomorrow morning. (are you kidding me??) aaaarrrgghh. There was a small promise that things could change early tomorrow morning. Yeah right. :(

They are expecting the most frigid air tomorrow in years. -20 below actual temperature. Wind chills at -40 / -60 below.

We are hunkered down and not going out. I’m making soup and baking some bread. comfort food. :)

Good evening!

Our weather continues to be unpleasant, and I will be very happy when it stops raining, and the flooding recedes, but it’s not a patch on what you’re getting.
Stay safe. xx

I surprised myself by volunteering to break from tradition, and take our tree down today. I didn’t like thought of doing it after work tomorrow. So, my sitting room is back to normal, looks bigger, and is, temporarily at least, TIDY! But this means Christmas is officially over.

I have finished Longbourn, and really enjoyed it. I would highly recommend. It treats P and P with almost total respect, and stands as a good read in it’s own right. Lady Hawke, have you finished it? I’d love to know what you thought.

I heard from Wolfie a few weeks ago. She was due to finish her punishing job at the end of December, and has work lined up for the next few months. Her second book is going well, due to be published in the autumn, and she was looking forward to a Christmas with her family and friends.

It is still raining. Now I wonder how much snow we will get since it has been raining all day? We were lucky and only got about 4 inches while MM got a lot from the last storm. My relatives who live close to MM posted pictures of them trying to clear their drivways with no place to put the snow. Maybe I should watch the weather today.

I’m afraid I haven’t finished LONGBOURN yet. The last few months have not been conducive to reading so I’m going incredibly slow. I’m in the biograhy of the character that gives new perspectives on some of the characters and their actions.

HUFFLEBUG, I’m waiting impatiently for the next hour and twenty minutes to pass so Downton Abbey will begin.

We are still waiting to hear from our schools about tomorrow.

Cool G – I am hibernating in my house. No work for us here. The DS has been cleaning the driveway every few hours to keep it clear. Thank God for the snow blower. The bitter cold and constant snow has been brutal.

I sent the DS to the grocery store with a list and he said there were lots of men in the store with either a list or on the phone talking to their significant others. He felt he was in good company while lost in the aisles. LOLOL!!

I was getting a little upset when my school district was refusing to close the schools yet the DS job had called to stay home safe and warm. The DS had already told me he wanted me to stay home and not work. With all my heart problems he said it just wasn’t safe to expose my lungs to even a little bit of the bitter cold. Now I am so glad I don’t need to have to take a sick day.

I have been very fortunate to have been so frugal with my sick days when I was young. I was able to take the entire month of November off with my heart problems. I still have a good month left but it’s not a great stockpile like before. :(
If they had not done a snow day I would have been split on my decisions on to go in or not. I hate missing work but the DS would have been very upset if I went to work. :/. Thank God no need to make a decision.

Morning all! You can all rest assured that Downton Abbey will continue to give full satisfaction:)

MM I was relieved to hear that you didn’t have to go into school in that awful weather. The UK is being battered by stormy seas and very high tides on the coast and the ground everywhere is soaked by the rainfall. Many thousands of people were without electricity on Christmas Day, and many others have been flooded due to rivers overflowing.

Morning

All is well here at the moment. The temperature is only -2 but it is suppose to get colder as the day goes on. I have forgotten what the wind chill is. I think it is -14 but not sure. The rain did stop yesterday and it started snowing but we have no where near the 12 inches we were suppose to get. So far it is only about 2 inches or more. It is suppose to snow more today. Further north of us it is —36 so it is good I live in the southern part of the state.

Anyway I stayed at the door when I let the dogs out this morning. I let them back in as soon as they came back. No letting them stay out to play or investigate. It is not too bad downstairs even though I don’t heat it. My storm door will not stay close. It seems to be warped. Not only does the latch not fit, the top does not fit in the opening. Strange because I use to use this for the door. The main door I would keep open.

MM So glad you can stay home today.

Good morning, Leaky!

I hope everyone is staying safe and warm!

Hi, HUFF!! Glad to see you stop by and are having time to enjoy Downton Abbey. I don’t want to give any spoilers, but I must say I’m a bit disappointed. After the 2 hour premier I really feel like Julian Fellowes is just giving us more of the same. There was lots of potential for change, but so far in the premier, it’s just recycling old plot lines and not adding too much of anything new. I really hope DA doesn’t turn into the typical American TV show that goes on several seasons longer than it should.

ASTI, I finished LONGBOURN. I was home today without a job but my daughter did have to go to school. Fortunately, I was able to drive her to the school. She, her father and grandmother have a dermatology appointment this afternoon so he is picking her up. She won’t have any standing and waiting outside. I didn’t take a job today because my DS had to be at work early and was not able to stay home long enough to take our daughter to school. Since he couldn’t it was left to me which meant I couldn’t work unless I worked at her school. I wasn’t going to take her somewhere early and put her out to wait until the doors opened

SPOILER for LONGBOURN

I thought the whole idea was clever, telling the story from downstairs. Of course, you miss a lot of details about the intrigues going on upstairs but you see the ramifications of upstairs behavior on downstairs. You also see a lot of details and back stories of the people downstairs and how they are tied to the people upstairs in unexpected ways. Some of the members of the household were intimately acquainted with the lives of those downstairs, in uncomfortable ways, and others who you would have liked to have shown interest in the people who served them paid almost no attention to them at all. I was a bit sad to see it was not all perfectly happily ever after for Elizabeth and Darcy. I know it never really is as there are always struggles even between people who love each other and who are well matched. I was sorry to see she lived on the edge of anxiety of possibly not being up to snuff and that while being well taken care of and spoiled beyond belief she was still facing the lot of all aristocratic women of the time. She had become a well dressed and pampered breeding machine. There was really no other outcome for her but from the perspective of modern eyes it took some of the glamor from her fairy tale ending.

I would like to hear your views on it as well.

LONGBOURN SPOILER OVER

On DOWNTON ABBEY although I enjoyed it there was certainly an enormous amount of conniving, long threads linking it to previous conniving. I think the most interesting story line to me is going to be Lord Grantham’s struggle with Lady Mary over the control of Downton. I know we already saw a similar struggle with him against modernization last season and in many ways this is simply a continuation.

We woke to no cable or internet. It was out for hours. I assume it had something to do with the extreme cold. When I called to report the problem it turned out to be a wide spread outage.

Aloha y’all!! ;)

So far I will have to go in to work tomorrow. Since almost all ao the public schools will be closed, I fully expecta very small crew. We have a lot of single parents who work for the State. They will not necessarily be able to arrange child care, so they won’t be in. ;)

We did lose power for almost 2 hours Thursday night/Friday morning. It went out at about 2 minutes to midnight and came on at 1:46 am. I sat up and read. The DS was getting ready for bed when it went out, so he went on to sleep. He woke up when the fuurnace kicked on. I hope we don’t lose power tonight. ;)

My roses are georgous!! 39 this year. If I can get my phone to send them to one of my email accounts, I will post a picture at CC. If it still works the same way as it used to, that is. ;)

I broke my glases the other day and I have an eye appointment on Wednesday at 1:40. I hope the weather is not so cold then. ;)

If I do have to go to work tomorrow, I plan to park on the top level of the deck, in the sun. That way the car will be a bit warmer than if I park inside, in the shade. The top still has the wind and the cold, but with the sun shining, the inside of the car might be bearable. ;)

Off in search of food. ;)

Gaaakkk! Tomorrow’s temps are not encouraging. As I leave for work it should be 10 F (-12.22 C). With the wind it is supposed to feel like -3 F (-19.44 C). I guess I’ll need to actually wear my coat and a scarf. Possibly even gloves.

I can’t stand to drive in a coat! Since the inside of our garage should be in the 40’s, I really don’t have to put on the coat until I am at work. Coming home is when I hope the car will be warm enough to peel off the coat once I’m inside with the door closed. ;)

Can’t decide what I want to eat. Off to make another round of the pantry, fridge & freezer. ;)
