Asti:

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0840322/

This movie is based loosely on the Highland High School rugby program. which until recently was a world class team.
The school is from Salt Lake City.

Cool G They are forecasting a lot of snow and ice in your area, about 3 storms worth, be careful and don"t answer the door. There is an escape murderer in Indiana, from Michigan, so be careful. Did you see some of the new rules and regs that NASCAR is imposing on Sprint Cup?

Speaking of escaped murderers, a guy who slashed some people to death in the NYC subway escaped prison in NY and they caught him in the bus station in Memphis a couple of days ago.

It is hovering around freezing here and is very damp. It rained and rained yesterday and last night. We woke up to cars covered in ice but with the streets dry. Counties to the north of us are expecting more bad weather tonight. We are missing the worst of it again.

I already know I have a job tomorrow as a music teacher substitute in the high school in the next town south of us. The teacher appears to have her planning session in the first block and has thoughtfully offered the job reflecting that. I don’t have to be there until 9:45. I can take my daughter to school and come home to get ready before having to leave. Finding a job tonight means I don’t have to get up at 5 AM to look for one.

We are planning to celebrate my DS’s 76th birthday tomorrow by going for lunch to the crown Country Inn. We didn’t officially celebrate Imbolc so we can afford to let our choices be a little more extravagant if necessary.

We watched the SuperBowl last night at my SIL house. It was her birthday party too. We had a great time. I was not emotionally invested in any of the teams so I quite enjoyed watching the beating the Bronco’s received. I had fun.

They are predicting more snow for our area. O.O
I am so tired of winter. I want to be in a beach somewhere warm. :)

The Super Bowl was considered a tragedy around here, not that I cared one way or another. Peyton Manning is a Mississippi boy so people around here pull for the team on which the Mannings play.

Made some of my infamous Italian beef stew in the crockpot over the weekend. It uses red gravy
instead of beef gravy. Add grated parmesan and it is very good.

Morning

I waited until it got daylight and went outside to take the trash. I carried in 4 bags of dogfood in case I could not open my truck door. I would leave it unlocked but it is close to the road. I still have 2 more bags of dogfood left in the truck. I just can not leave it unlocked for the kids that steal to come by. I am sure the kids who broke into my house are now out of jail.

Shoot I forgot to move the trash can close to the road in case they come by to pick it up. Trash day is not until tomorrow but I never know what time they will be by. They probably won’t be by tomorrow because of the snow. Speaking of snow, it is almost melted from my yard. Too bad it is suppose to snow about 6 inches today.

The dogs are snoring again. Have I ever said that their snoring makes it feel like the DS is still here? Since I can not see on the sides, I can not see that it is the dogs. I no longer have all the mirrors I use to have so I could see everything in the room. It makes it easy to think he is still in his chair sleeping.

Mr. Deanie No I don’t know all of the new rules. Since Speed Channel has turned into Fox 1, I don’t keep up with it every night. Even the Nascar on the internet no longer gives as much info as it use to. I guess I could check to see if they have started up with a nightly program again.

Ironsos If you were from the South, you would not forget what red eye gravy is. :)

Graymayne Tell Mr. Graymayne Happy Birthday.

Cool G. I get a sport section on my Yahoo home page and in that section they have the NASCAR news and some interviews of the drivers. We are misty and just plain nasty today, no freezing like last week, just wet and chilly and cloudy. Come Spring with all the beautiful colors and warmth.

I am unexpectedly sitting in the school pickup line an hour early. The winter weather tjat was meant to go morth of us is veering south. Fortunately, the teacher I was subbing for was a coach taking the team to an out of town gane. They were told to turn around after they were on their way. So, I was relieved of duty in tim$e to get groceries in for my parents and to get in the pickup line at my daughter’s school in good time.

I’m going home to make acorn squash soup. I hope they are wrong about the weather. I don’t want schools to be closed tomorrow. We will lose our three day President’s Day weekend if we miss a day.

It is very peculiar. There is lightning, flooding, rain coming down in a deluge with sleet in it. The water looks thick and it appears the trees are building up some ice. Mostly we appear to be drowning. My dogs will be so glad to see us so they can come inside.

Graymayne: I wish red gravy was red wine. It is really just pasta sauce.

Cool g: I have never had red eye gravy. Sound good though as I like the salty picnic style ham.

Speaking of salty picnic style ham, I got some slices to fry to have biscuit and ham sandwich. Red eye gravy is from the dripping from baking a county style ham.

Jennifer came and picked me up to go to Columbus Hospital to visit her daughter and my new great granddaughter. It had just started to snow as we left. Before we got home it was almost 2 inches and still falling. We will probably get the 6 to 12 inches they are now predicting. I just hope we don’t get freezing rain.

CoolG Congratulations on your great grandchild, that is quite something!

We had a delicious, if pricey, lunch in a newly re-furbished and re-named Georgian house, with extensions at the rear that can’t be seen from the road. The place has been a restaurant for some years but finally closed. The new owners are a pub chain that take over places with potential and last year worked their magic on an old favourite of ours.

I have just watched Quantum of Solace, for the second time I finally realised. I really don’t understand the appeal of violent films, I very nearly gave up after the first fifteen minutes. What a sad world we live in.

I am happy to report seeing my first snowdrops of the year today. The cycle of nature never fails to bring a smile to my face.

Morning

Graymayne Getting to visit my Great Grandchild while she was still in hospital was quite unexpected. My granddaughter has been mad at her mother since Jennifer posted on facebook that she was going to be a grandmother. Really rediculous since the granddaughter has posted so many pictures of herself showing how big her belly got. Jennifer did not say which daughter was pregnant but the daughter was mad anyway. So much so that she baned her mother from seeing her post on FB. You have to have a password to get into the room in the hospital. I kept telling Jen that maybe things would change when she actually had her baby. It did. The granddaughter called and wanted us to come see her and gave the password. That is why we went out knowing that a bad storm was coming.

I have another great Grandchild coming next month. My grandson is coming in from Germany for the birth. He already posted that his general signed off on his leave papers. This granddaughter is mad at her Father=in-law becasue he would not give her the shotgun that was my DS. For some reason she wanted to give it to her mother to sell. That is the reason I gave the shotguns to their Dad to keep until the grandkids got older and were more selttled. The do use it for hunting but have to bring it back. This was the condition for all the grandkids. I gave each one one of his guns to our grandchildren under the condition that the parent keeps it until they have a home of their own. Looks like that condition paid off.

Thankfully we must have not got the ice because I still have electric. It does not seem cold yet either. My driveway and yard was free from snow for one day. Thank goodness I was able to get out and got groceries.

After all the fuss yesterday all we ever had was a deluge of rain. It poured. Water started creeping over the roads. The ditches and stream beds were flooding. There was some sleet mixed in with the rain.

I know north of us almost all the school systems are closed. We were on the edge of the bed weather and dodged the bullet.

I had a Dr. appointment at 8:30. I left my house at 7:15 by 8:15 I was only about a mile from my home. I cancelled me appointment and headed back home. It took me another hour to get home. It was only 1 mile from home. We in the north should never laugh at The South and their snow woes again. :(

I had to call off work for the entire day. :(

The reason could be that we have had 22 snow falls. Many communities are out of salt. They are only plowing.

Good evening!

More wind and more rain, and more to come. This is getting boring. The news pictures of huge waves are spectacular, though the damage to homes and land is very worrying. We’ve had power cuts both today and yesterday; fortunately of not long enough duration for me to worry about the contents of the fridge or the freezer, but long enough for both offspring to hope they might be sent home from school!

No overtime this week, and I am officially panicking. I am on leave for the next two weeks, so that will be three weeks with no overtime worked. Eeep.
One of my weeks off is half term, also daughter’s birthday. I have to take her and a friend iceskating. Wish me luck! The first week, I was thinking I could be of use in helping the parents pack for their move. It seems I was overly optimistic as to how organised they would be…….after all my years, I should know better……….still, I have Wolfie’s second book to beta read, so I will be kept busy, yay!

MM, What an horrendous journey. Was this just a check up? You’re not actually in need of a Doctor??

CoolG, great grandchildren everywhere!! I am so glad the new Mum changed her mind, and you and your daughter got to see the newborn. Does the baby have a name yet?

MM The authorities were caught out in the UK a couple of years ago by the arrival of snow at the end of October, a rare event. The salt stores had not been made ready and many places ran out of supplies. Lessons were learned.

I don’t remember a winter as damaging as this before because so many people are suffering from flooding due to constant rainfall inland while those on the coast are experiencing damage from high winds and high seas. My county sensibly invested in flood barriers in the most vulnerable areas after the floods in 2000, and this has proved to be a wise move. Now our coastal sea defences have to be repaired and improved and our land drainage strategies need to be overhauled. Too much money has been frittered away on ego-boosting projects and not enough on basic maintenance and land management. A fine new millenium this is turning out to be:-/
