GREETINGS FROM MIAMI FLORIDA – we have traveled from St. Petersburg, through the Everglades down to the keys and now we are in Miami. It is a gorgeous city. We are in a hotel with 15 floors, valet parking and beautiful scenery out my 11th v
Floor window.

We had so much fun in the Everglades. We saw an alligator walking across the road to start our trip. We were horrified to see signs warning us about Panther crossings. We carefully joined in the alligator watching along the road and enjoyed the scenery. We drove down to the Keys but we were very disappointed to find it was raining and thundering. We had a steak dinner and headed back to Miami.

I’m not sure what tomorrow will bring but we are having a great time!!

Lady Hawke Er, why does your husband’s absence mean that you have to re-arrange the move?

I was wondering the same thing, Graymayne.

And MM, I’m so glad to hear of the fun you’re having. The Everglades are one of my favorite places! Sea kayaking through the mangrove swamps is amazing!

Because I have to move my parents over to the new house, my mother by car, my father by ambulance before the moving proplr go in. So, I’ll be at the new house and I need someone who can drive overseeing the loading at the apartment. It may well all overlap. I have to assume it might.

Good evening!

The piano tuner came today, and I have been in ecstasies ever since. It sounds wonderful.

If I could be absolutely certain I could get my parents transported to the new house and settled comfortably to wait for me and the furniture to arrive and I could get back to the apartment ahead of the moving people I could do it alone. I can’t be transporting my mother and getting them settled at the house and be waiting for the moving van at the apartment all at the same time.

Since the moving van and the ambulance may be there simultaneously I have to have an adult to leave behind to supervise the loading at the apartment while I go ahead to settle my parents and then wait for the arrival of furniture.

In a perfect world I could do this. Both the ambulance and the movers are giving me “windows” of time when they may be there. If I don’t have backup then they will certainly be there at the same time. I can’t abandon the apartment to itself while I move my parents.

The medical equipment company is bringing a bed and the oxygen generator to the house sometime this week. So there will be a bed for daddy at the house. I will have to provide a chair for my mother to sit in until the furniture arrives. She will have to have a survival kit with the things she needs to take care of my father at the house since the lag between their arrival at the house and the furniture’s arrival at the house could be minutes or hours.

Last year the move was extremely complicated with many stops and a round circle trip back to the house but my parents were able to stay at the house until the furniture was loaded. They sat in the car. Then, I drove with them as the van headed to the apartment. I had already stationed patio chairs on their porch so they were out of the way of the moving people unloading furniture.

This time daddy’s move is a separate production and is complicating matters.

Today we spent the morning and part of the afternoon in Miami Beach. It was so relaxing just sitting under the sun. There were some people swimming but the DS and I just chose to walk along the sand and water. The weather was a perfect 80 degrees. I couldn’t ask for a better day. After a very late lunch or early dinner we drove off and we are now resting in our hotel one hour from St. Augustine. It is our destination for tomorrow.

The weather has dropped and we are in the 60’s. :(
I don’t want to go back home. :(

MM, if you eat early in St. Augustine you can take advantage of wonderful seafood dinners which are marketed to Senior Citizen Snow Birds. When I was pregnant I went to St. Augustine with my friend who came to LeakyCon in Chicago with me. She was building a house there and wanted company to go check on the progress. We would eat early to take advantage of the good deals. I think I had lobster almost every night. My friend’s husband’s mother has a house there where we stayed.

There are catfish in the ocean at St. Augustine. They will stab you with their whiskers. Old town St. Augustine is interesting.

We are having a slow start to a day that is probably going to be very tiring.

This is my DS’s birthday and we’ve decided to make lemon poppy seed muffins for breakfast to serve with ham and eggs. He has gone to the store to bring home the necessary ingredients I did not have.

After we eat we must start transferring boxes from my parent’s apartment to the house.

We do intend to stop at Target to get a DVD of Catching Fire to watch tonight.

My father and mother had a bad night. His blood pressure hovered at about 200/97 all night. She was taking his blood pressure every hour and giving him medication every two all night long. It finally broke back down to normal at 7 AM and she was going to try to sleep a bit. She never sleeps longer than two hours so she will be expecting us soon.

Morning

I have practically guarenteed that I will not have company this weekend. Not only is my house relatively straighten but I have dress like I was going out. This means no one will come by or I won’t be invited to go anywhere. I wanted to be ready at a moments notice if my Grandson was around. His wife is scheduled to have her baby any time. For all I know she might already have it but I have received no phone call, text, or seen anything on FB.

OH I just saw the date. This is my anniversary. We were planning on having a party for this one. We did not want to wait for our 50th since I did not think we would make it. Strange I thought I would be the one gone.

Lady Hawke Please wish your DS a Happy Birthday. I’m sorry to hear the medical news from your parents:(

CoolG I had to smile at your lack-of-company forecast. It often seems to be the case that visitors arrive when we are least ready for them:-/ We celebrated our 30th Wedding Anniversary feeling that our 40th might find some members missing. It turned out to be a good decision, my sister died just six years later.

Good evening!

I have managed to decant the contents of my boxes into various cupboards. The diaries are under my bed, lol. I got to half way through 1986, and need a break! All sorts of emotions and memories are flooding back, not all of them welcome.

My Mum has had a letter from the hospital. Her fairly radical treatment for her back pain/mobility has been brought forward to the middle of next week. This is NOT good news for the removal process. Especially since my Dad is worried sick about this procedure, shows his worry for her by getting uptight and snarly, and is dealing with this whole moving business by pretending it is not happening. My sister and I are heading back next weekend. I have no idea if they have even booked a removal company……..head/wall/bang/takewine.

Lady Hawke, please wish your DS a very happy birthday from me. I hope you can take some time out, and have a bit of fun.

CoolG and Graymayne, it is sad, but prudent. My Mum made a huge effort to get everyone together for my grandparents 50th; my Grandad died a few months later. CoolG, I hope you are having lots of happy memories today, and not too much sadness. xx

GRAYMAYNE, what does your DS have to do to get his license renewed?

We made three loads of boxes in my DS’s van to the house yesterday. Today we need to go take the drawers out of the dressers and chests of drawers. We decided several moves ago that taking the drawers, filled as they are, is the best way to go. You don’t have to pack and unpack the contents and removing the drawers reduces the weight of the furniture.

My mother needs a chair moved to the house so she will have a comfortable chair she can get into and out of easily while waiting for everyone else and the furniture to arrive.

Lady Hawke No problem. He simply had to fill out the forms they had forwarded together with a current passport-style photograph. He had to take the bus into our nearest town to obtain the photo last week, then fill out the forms and post them. The car is at the garage awaiting a new part and luckily the cost will be covered by the two-year warranty issued when we bought the car.

I have been watching the third series of Call the Midwife which ended this evening. I was always amazed by the amount of storylines they managed to fit into one hour. Excellent TV. I am also enjoying The Musketeers, stories inspired by Alexandre Dumas, the content is full of the spirit of the original.

I parked my truck back into the driveway yesterday. Now I hear there may be snow again this week. Figures.

Jennifer came yesterday. We went shopping before going to Red Lobster for the last day of Lobsterfest. Of course I had no money for shopping but enjoyed looking for things for Jennifer. When we had gone shopping previously I was always trying to find a jacket like Queen Latiffa was wearing on her show. I never found one that was long enough to cover my butt. Of course today we found one and it was on sale. A really good sale. I tried it on and it fit except the sleeves a little long but since I wear mine pushed up anyway ,it would not have been a problem. When we were back at the car, Jennifer had bought the jacket for me. Wasn’t that so sweet? Of course I will have to give her back her money. She works too hard to spend it on me.

We got two different meals at Red Lobster. So we each ate from both plates. It was so good. We had enough left over that it will make two meals for Jennifer. We stopped by at her daughter’s to visit with the new Grandbaby. So I had a very big day.

Today I just checked my bank statement and the rest of my check had been deposited. Of course I am afraid to spend any of it until it has been there for a few days.

Ironsos I think I am right in saying that I have only eaten lobster twice in my life, once in Wales and once in Scotland. I enjoyed it but I have learned since that eating shellfish is not good for my blood type, so there is no point in acquiring a taste for it.

I have just finished reading Final Witness by Simon Tolkien, grandson of J.R.R. Tolkien. It is his first book and he didn’t start writing until he was in his forties. It is a murder/court drama mystery, and I had difficulty putting it down. It isn’t perfect and it is definitely isn’t YA, but he writes about what he knows, he worked as a barrister in England. His fourth novel will be published in April this year.

This has been a long day. Daddy had another bad night with his blood pressure. Mother called me at midnight, worried about his blood pressure and wanting to confirm what she should be giving him and how often. she called me back at 5 AM and again at 5:30 AM. It was a long night before a long day.

I spent the morning at the house, installing the shelf paper and sweeping down the wood floor. I realized I needed a wood flooring cleaning product to remove some of the smudges from the work boots on the floor. So, we headed to Target for that.

Then, we went and picked my mother up to go choose and purchase a refrigerator freezer. We had arranged for a sitter from hospice to stay with daddy. Mother did not want a very large refrigerator/freezer but I steered her away from the tiniest one available. This one will have an ice maker. Then, she wanted to go to the used book store to take back some books and get new ones. We stopped on the way back to the apartment to pick up some food because it was mid afternoon by then.

After we ate I left my daughter with her grandparents and went to pick up new prescriptions of blood pressure medications. I also had to go to their bank to sign some more papers. That was in the next town to the east.

I delivered the prescriptions, explained how they were to be used and picked my daughter up and headed home.

When I walked through the door of our house my phone rang and it was my mother. The batteries were dead in the blood pressure cuff. She couldn’t tell me what kind of batteries were in it so I went back out the door and headed to their apartment. I had to find out the type of battery and go purchase them. I installed the new batteries and took my father’s blood pressure and it was very high. So, we started the new medication immediately.

I came home and kept going on the laundry I started before I left home this morning.

I am tired.

You can tell it has been warm the last few days. I have had to sweep and dust again because of the dog hair. I think they are shedding. They have spent a lot of time outdoors so you would think it would not be so bad.

I stayed up so late last night or I should say this morning. I could not stop reading my book and right now I can not remember what it was about. I hate that. The upside is I can re read a book several times and it still reads as new. I have to read a book at least 3 or 4 times before I can remember the whole book. That is why I read Deadly Hallows 7 times in a row so I could remember it.

Lady Hawke I think after the move you need to take a mini vacation.

I went to the house this morning and cleaned the new floor. It was covered in dust and smudges from the installer’s boots. I also vacuumed and mopped the kitchen floor. I cleaned the bathroom my parents will be using.

While I was there the termite contractor came and installed termite pots. Lowes called and asked if they could bring the refrigerator early.

I wiped down the kitchen as well. I need to install the last set of shelf paper. One set was cut wrong so I had to do them again last night but I forgot to take them with me today.

My daughter and I are going to the paint shop for a little while, to give her a little break. On the way home maybe we’ll stop and put the shelf paper in. I’m also going to put a carton of drinks in the refrigerator so we will have cold drinks there on Friday and the weekend while we are working.
