Graymayne – being proud mammas is what we live for. :)
You go lady! :)

I have the day off today. Usually I would spend it with my sisters going to breakfast or lunch then shopping. Today I sit with my mother in law. She has a 1:30 appointment. :(

I know I’m whining and being selfish. :(
I guess I should do my housework and laundry. Yuck! :(

Good evening.

The kids are on Easter holiday now for a fortnight. No time off for me :(

Graymayne, wow! I think I got about one word in three, but how lovely to see it, photo and all. It’s great that he’s doing so well, no wonder you are proud.

Lady Hawke, how was today? Thinking of you still, xx

Ironsos, there is a fab new Simon’s Cat film. The title escapes me at the moment, but it’s about the cat having a funny five minutes. You might enjoy!

Thank you Asti. That was a good one. I remember being on a date once when the girls cat
went all berserker on us and I commented on it’s very strange behavior. It was our last date.

I’ll have to watch both BigG’s and the Simon’s Cat videos when they aren’t in conflict with what my family has on TV.

After working today I had to have a document which had been emailed to me from the attorney notarized. It was a document which must be presented to the court to name me as my father’s executrix. The language was quite interesting and antiquated. It was written as if I had written a letter to the court, requesting to be made executrix. Instead of requesting that status I was “praying” for that status. The word was used repeatedly.

Then, I had to take it to FedEx and send it overnight to be there on Monday morning. I spoke to the lawyer’s office to tell them the check was coming back under separate post as I had already mailed it yesterday. I was afraid of the document and the check becoming unlinked from one another. The paralegal told me when the attorney comes to appear before the court he will also need the original copy of the will and they don’t want me to mail it to them for fear of it being lost. So, the day he comes to appear before the court I will have to take off work and hand carry it to him and pick it up when he is finished.

Tomorrow, if my MIL agrees, I am going to make homemade fried chicken, a pasta salad, a tomato, mozzarella and basil salad, and some roasted root vegetables and go to my mother’s house and have dinner and play games. My DS is having to go to his mother’s apartment to talk to her. He has been trying to call her this afternoon and has not had an answer. She would not characteristically be out on a Friday evening when after work weekend traffic has picked up. She does her limited driving about during the morning or early afternoon when there is less traffic. So, since she is not answering the phone he is having to go check on her.

She did not attend my father’s funeral. She called that morning and reported she had not slept well the night before and had a bit of a sore throat. That is, unfortunately, the standard manner in which she excuses herself from many family functions. We believe she doesn’t feel well but we also feel she may work herself up into such a state when she is expected to go somewhere or do something she doesn’t want to do. So, now we are concerned as to why she is not answering the phone. Is she really not there? Is there something wrong? Is she just not answering the phone? Each is a possibility. If I’m cooking dinner for tomorrow I need to know if she is coming.

It is unlikely my mother will have dinner with us, especially during the week. My DS has never been consistent as to his arrival at home for dinner. I have never been able to plan when to serve dinner. Many times he does not arrive until the TV hour has already begun.

I can imagine a lot of weekend dinners, including both grandmothers, if we can just get people to participate.

My daughter and I did stop and visit after I picked my daughter up from school. I needed to shop for dinner tomorrow night and I called my mother to see if she needed anything. At first she said she did need something but had forgotten what it was. I told her from now on she should write down anything she needs because I will call her before I go to the grocery if I need to run in for something. After all she is on my way home so it is not a problem. It would be much worse to go to the grocery only to find I needed to go back because I didn’t call her and get her small needs when I go in for mine.

Okay, so it is an hour and a half later and I have not heard from my DS. I did the time test to see how much Leaky Time was differing from my time.

My MIL lives about 20 minutes away so even though my DS was going to stop at the store for a bag of chips the time he has been gone is worrying. At this point it is still possible he walked in on his mother and she was fine and he has just been sucked into the Friday night grocery store crowd but any longer and I will start becoming concerned.

Lady Hawke BigG’s link is to a blog, with photographs, on the BBC News/internet section, not a video.

This week the UK has been experiencing some more freak weather conditions which has caused very poor visibility due to three sources of air pollution, our own, some from Europe, plus sand from the Sahara. People with asthma, lung problems or heart conditions were advised against engaging in strenuous activity outdoors. Today I can see blue sky again.

Hello everyone… Hope you are all doing well. LH ha, I remember asking my RE attorney what all that ‘praying" stuff was all about, as I read over papers we were going to submit to the court. She laughed and said that was a ’legalese’ term for when one approaches the court with a request that basically amounts to asking the court to grant you a favor. Something that the court has the power to grant or dismiss, but the decision is entirely up to the courts discretion and is not specifically governed, or regulated by a rule, statute, or mandate of law.

GRAYMAYNE, I understood the part where they do project in stages so if they aren’t doing what the user wants they don’t get too far off track before repairing the problem. As far as the rest, more power to him for understanding that. I suspect my DS would understand exactly what he is saying. It seemed to be quite a scholarly article.

MM, I assume she was okay but there must have been an “issue”. He was gone for close to two hours and when he came back he had not been to the grocery. That makes me assume he had to stage an “intervention” over some issue she had that was causing her not to answer the phone. She gets her feelings hurt and gets ideas in her head. He did not explain what kept him or what they talked about. So, I assume it was something that would have made my face melt. This used to go on within my own walls (for 2 years, 7 months and 8 days).

I understand about someone wearing thin on you. Many times relationships with people are kept at their best when the two people in question don’t live in each others space. Does your DS see any of the stress his mother’s presence it putting you under? I realize sometimes what is an irritant to us is something they don’t even notice.I hope he does see and will help suggest she might be better off where she has more daughters to visit her and keep an eye on her. Mine ended up telling his mother to “Get happy about being here or go find somewhere else.” She went. She wanted the control of her environment and she couldn’t be in control unless I rolled over and played dead. So, she couldn’t “get happy”.

At any rate she came for dinner and games this afternoon. I fried a LOT of chicken, 16 thighs and 10 legs. I made a pasta salad, a mozzarella and tomato salad, roasted veggies and guacamole. We have a lot left and I sent some home with my MIL and left some for my mother. I will not have to cook tomorrow.

My mother said she did turn the TV on last night for two hours but said she wasn’t really paying attention to it. I told her I thought it would take time. She also made a breakfast for herself for dinner last night. So, she is trying to keep living.

When my MIL arrived my mother immediately asked her to come and stay at Christmas since she has so many extra beds and it would make the holidays more convenient. So, now I know my mother means to celebrate Christmas.

She has decided to leave her recliner in the great room because the TV is there and when she finishes watching she can just turn it off and go to sleep where she is sitting.

I am so relieved she is making an effort. I had feared both she and I would dissolve into choking sobs and never stop and never get past it. I’m not saying I think she will ever be past it but she already seems to be making the effort to go on.

She is talking on the phone to a lot of old friends from our old church she has not spoken to regularly for a long time. They are inaccessible in real life but she has been going through her phone book.

My daughter brought her cat with her today and the grandmothers enjoyed having a furry person wandering about.

Lady Hawke I found that I followed his chain of thought better on second reading. It is very confusing when confronted with specialised terminology but it will, I trust, mean more to the younger technology-based people. I’m just pleased that men have discovered that cooperation is more productive than competition, and that perfecting smaller sections at a time on a complicated project is the efficient way to a successful outcome.

LadyHawke – maybe a furry friend might be a good idea for your mom. It would motivate her to get up in the morning and keep her company. A cat is the easiest because they don’t need walking. But a small dog is good too if she has a yard. Something to think about. The shelter, as you know, are always looking for humans. :)

I know it is spring. When I went to my kitchen sink to fill my coffee cup there was the proof. Little ants running all around the back of the sink. I had to get my spray with bleech and give the sink a good spraying. I use to know why they came in during the spring. I think it is because of all the rain and wet ground. I guess I should give the dogs their flea medicine since bugs are around now.

MM Now you know why I live by myself. Even though my daughter did not want me to move back home, I knew I needed to so that her family life would not change because of me. She will have long enough to put up with me when I get too old to live by myself. It is good to know that I have some place to go instead if a nursing home when I get too old to do for myself. It is easier for the mother to live with her daughter than a daughter-in-law no matter how good you get along. My DS was so good about letting my family move in with us when they needed. I also knew when it was time for my brothers to find their own place. Funny he never got aggravated with my mother living with us but would after a time when it was one of my brothers. The only time he got aggravated at my mother was when she dented his new truck. It was not long after that she quit driving. Lol

I talk about my dogs all the time. They cause a lot of irritation at times but they also keep me from getting lonely. When Harley is snoring, it makes me thing the DS is still here. I use to have mirrors everywhere so I could just look up and see the DS sitting next to me. I did not put them back up when I moved back home.

Good evening!

I worked overtime today. I don’t like working Sundays, but I DO like being paid time and a half.

Graymane, yes, the Easter Holidays are usually like that. It’s just that Easter is so late this year. It effects the length of the school terms, which is why they’ve done it this way.

MM, I hope you had a lovely breakfast! My sympathies about the MIL.

Lady Hawke, MM’s suggestion of a furry companion is a good idea. Might your Mother go for it, if not now, in a few months maybe?

We have already started a campaign for a cat. My mother is resistant. She doesn’t want the mess of cat litter to deal with and she doesn’t have confidence my daughter would remember to come change it every day for her.

We technically have seven weeks of school left. My daughter said the teachers have said there are 30 days left which would be six weeks. The daughter says they finished the math text book last week. I hope they don’t just sit and watch movies for the rest of the year.

I received a summons to report for jury duty next week. I do not want to do jury duty. I am only paid if I go to a school and work. It would be the week of Holy Week so that would mean I would miss having Good Friday off with my daughter. I hope they reject me for some reason, that the attorneys don’t like me and they send me away.

Lady Hawke My DS received a summons for Jury Duty after he had been gone a few years. I got one during the time I could not remember anything for 5 minutes. I was excused and have never gotten one again.

Jennifer came over today. We went shopping. I bought some flats and she got some running shoes. I also got a new shirt and I think she got a new dress. We were just shopping for nothing in particular which is fun. Later we went to Golden Corral for dinner.

Gee had to spray my sink again. The ants haven’t learned to find somewhere else to go yet. And yes the grass is a deep green and my easter lilies are in bloom.

Good evening!

After months of having nothing to interest me on the television, I now have two programmes on the go. Masterchef is one, and I am curious, do you have a US version? I know the format has exported to many countries, but I am not sure about America.
The other is Game of Thrones, which we have recorded to watch another night. I really don’t know why I like it, it’s not me all, lol! But the characterisation is so good, there are funny bits, it is so malevolently, deliciously fantastical, and I have read the books!

Graymayne, they go back on the Tuesday. The schools still honour the Bank Holiday. Though I will be working……. For time and a half, and a day off in lieu!

Asti I am happy now that I know they still get their Easter Monday holiday. The whole business of Bank Holidays is surprisingly complicated at times according to the Wikipedia article.

I’m getting very tired of these gloomy days. I want Spring sunshine and warmth!

I have been really caught up in The Great British Sewing Bee. I am in awe of their speed and competence and their creativity when challenged to remodel a garment in any way they choose. They each have their strengths and weaknesses, and they seem such a nice bunch of people.

ASTI, we have a version of Masterchef starring Gordon Ramsey. I have not seen it. I’ll have to take a look. We have two networks devoted to nothing but cooking shows and several cooking shows that have ventured out into non-cooking networks. I am addicted to them but it is difficult to impossible to catch them all.

Today was a hard day for my mother. I believe the adrenaline of the last week has worn off and now she is left depressed and weepy. I’m still too busy to give in much but going by to see her and finding her so depressed took its toll on me. I came home deeply sad.

We are watching Love Actually.

I have washed my dishes. I did not do them for a couple of days because of the ants in the sink. I have cleaned the sink so I could do the dishes. I hope the ants are gone but I think they stay around for the whole month of April. I left the bodies of the ants in the sink to try to keep the ants away. Now that it is cleaned I hope I am not over run with them again.

Asti I don’t watch the Master Chief shows but several master chiefs are on as guest on the cooking shows I do watch. I use to watch the food network every day until they stopped showing ………Paula Dean’s shows because of a racial slur she used years ago. Years ago a lot of people used that same slur. I never have but since I am from the south, I have heard other people use it.

Good evening!

Had a minor catastrophe whilst making tea…….I put all the cut carrots and green beans into the colander prior to rinsing, put the colander down on the working surface…….and missed. Spent ten minutes sweeping vegetables up from all four corners of the room, sighed heavily, swore a bit, cut more carrots, and went without green beans!
On the up side, this is the cleanest my kitchen floor has been for a long time!

Our next door neighbours had their shed broken into last night, and some tools stolen. If we had opportunistic thieves in the area, it is unlikely that they did not visit our garden too. Our shed, and it’s lock, are fine, but I HATEHATEHATE the thought of strangers prowling round our garden while we are all asleep and unaware.

Lady Hawke, I always think that the hardest time begins once the funeral is over. As you said, it gave you something to focus on, and the adrenalin to get through it. Now, life is supposed to carry on as “normal………” You all need time to grieve. I am glad your Mother is so close to you now, and your Father must have found that such a comfort.
