I’m finishing our taxes and my mother’s taxes. Her state taxes can’t be efiled because of my father’s death. I have to print them on paper and have her sign them. So, I have them on a thumb drive to go get them printed. Our printer isn’t working. So, it is just a complication slowing things down.

Ours are waiting one more piece of information. Mississippi is now making you pay taxes on online and catalog purchases for which no tax was charged to any state. As soon as my DS gives me the figures and I plug them in I can click on Send.

I tried to do the taxes during my parent’s move and my father’s illness, death and funeral but I just didn’t have the time to get everything done for theirs or ours. So, now I am filing in the last few days.

I hate doing taxes. I always feel as if I’m doing something wrong even when I am trying my best to do the right thing. It makes me so nervous.

My mother has kindly offered to help with my endless laundry. She is doing my sheets today. I’m going to allow her to help me and not feel guilty. It gives her something to do and makes her feel helpful and productive.

Good evening!

DS and son were in the final of a big golf comp today…….they won! Son especially is exhausted. He played the round of his life; 18 holes in just 3 over par.

Daughter and I made a big batch of bolognaise. A portion for tonight, and two for the freezer. It was very yummy!

Lady Hawke, that is good news about your daughter. Is she enjoying school more at all? And absolutely about your Mother. It will surely help her to know she is doing something positive for you. Good luck with those taxes!

Won, I am delighted. My very best wishes to you both. I’m sending happy hugs! xx

ASTI, congratulations on the golf game to your son and DS. It is so nice your son and DS have something to do together at which they excel. It makes for good memories.

I had to look up bolognaise. I’ve heard the term but didn’t really know what it meant. Over here we use the much less artful term, meat sauce. Even most Italian restaurants simply call it meat sauce. When you see one of us speaking of having spaghetti for dinner it usually means we are having spaghetti in meat sauce. Otherwise, we would probably designate something else like spaghetti and meatballs or marinara sauce.

Asti You have to admit that your men are very consistent winners at golf. Well done!

Lady Hawke I had never realised that the ingredients in Spaghetti Bolognese could be so varied around the world. I’ve never seen carrot included or celery. I prefer to use lamb mince because I can buy NZ mince from the freezer section and only use half a pound. Fresh packed mince in the supermarket rarely comes in less than a pound. I add a small tin of chopped tomatoes, an onion, two cloves of garlic and a pinch each of dried basil and oregano plus a very small glass of red wine if there is a bottle open. I only cook enough for one meal of course because we don’t have a freezer.

Time for bed.

Meat sauce here usually includes ground beef/chuck, minced onions, minced garlic, diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, various Italian spices. Sometimes I will add ground pork sausage as well. I saw pepperoni in addition to the ground beef in a spaghetti sauce made by the parents at my senior class dinner when I was in high school. I went to a Catholic high school and many of our students came from recent Italian ancestry. I can easily imagine people putting minced celery in the mix but not so much with the carrots.

We brought our books home today and brought most of them back inside. For the first time in 18 months I have my Harry Potter books back on a book shelf and accessible. I still have three boxes in the back of my DS’s van. I know those boxes contain my Diana Gabaldon books as well as many, many paperbacks. I am so happy to see all the books I own that I have not yet read. I feel as if a bookstore has been delivered to my bedroom.

ASTI, I’m afraid my daughter is not really any happier at school. She only has about six weeks left. I hope next year she will end up in classes with some of her friends. The sad thing about next year is her best girlfriend is moving on to the high school.

The choir teacher is one of the administrators of a week long summer “sleep away from home” choir camp. My daughter has expressed an interest in attending. We happened to arrive at the grocery at the same time as the choir teacher Friday afternoon. The choir teacher said she had the privilege of inviting two parents to attend choir camp as a chaperone free of charge. She asked me if I would be interested in being one of the two she can invite. I would have my own private room. So, at this point my plans are to go to choir camp for a week this summer. I would not consider this if my mother was not across the street and if my DS could not easily check on her.

I am missing my copy of DH. I wanted to re read it and it’s not on the shelf. The last time I had it was on the vacation trip. I did not read it but I was traveling with it. I was reading Alligiant from the Divergent trilogy on the trip. I am freaking out. It is a first edition hard cover. I can’t lose it!! I am hoping its in the garage. :/ it’s too late to go look right now but I’m sending the DS tomorrow!! Our garage is detached and a little dark. :(

Lady Hawke Choir camp sounds good, I hope the plan comes together. I am pleased that your new bookcases are giving you a happy reunion with your books. It just isn’t the same when they are safe but out of sight. I am sad to hear that your daughter’s second year at her new school was not as positive as her first.

Won I can not tell you how happy this news makes me. I have been hoping and praying things would get better for you two ever since Sally had her health problems. I know that your own health will greatlty improve if you are happy.

Our trip yesterday to see the WWll D day reenactment went slightly unexpected. When we got there, the gate was closed and locked. Jennifer got on her email to check if any of them told her what was going on. It turns out that of the many she received, the one she did not open told the tail. It was a reenactment all right but we were not going to watch it. We were expected to participate. It even told us to bring our own rations for the weekend. Needless to say we were both disappointed. We have watched several reinactments over the years. We were not sure what we were going to see but since it was history we were both excited about it. Good thing our tickets were free. Lol

We decided to go on to Indianapolis since we were close to go shopping. She had a coupon from Victoria Secrets she needed to use. I use to shop there but haven’t for the last several years. I packed them away but maybe it is time to unpack my sexy undergarments just for myself. After shopping, we went to the Saturday service of her Church. On the way home, we stopped at Crackel Barrel for supper. So our day turned out to be nothing like we were expecting but we had fun anyway.

Lady Hawke Letting your mother help you will make her feel better no matter what it is. I am glad you have your books back. I lost so many of mine when the roof got a hole in it and we did not know. I was lucky that my hardbacks were upstairs so they did not get damaged but I had to pitch all my paperbacks. I had already gone thru my books and only kept the ones that I would re read so I hated losing them. I later got a few of them on my Kindel so that helps a little. At least I can still look at my bookshelf and still see real books.

MM Enjoy your free time.

I saw on the news we might get snow tomorrow. Hard to believe when it has been in the 70’s and 60’s today. So I shut the windows I had opened and decided I needed to bring the dog food inside out of the truck. Before I could open the gate, I had to clean up dog poop. All winter they have not done their business in front of the gate but today, there it was. They were probably mad because I was gone all day on Saturday. I then discovered that the gate had come loose at the bottom. I knew that the ice had done a number on the gate this winter but did not realize that the ties were gone and the bottom of the gate was up enough that the dogs could be trying to get out. Anyway I had to get some wire and tie the bottom back down. While I was at it, I put some more wire around the gate latch. The bolt had been broken on the latch this winter too. Already made a temporary repair with wire. I decided I needed to put some more reinforcement on it. Jennifer will screw a new bolt hole in the gate and put a new bolt in it later. It takes two of us to do it. One to hold the gate and latch while the other screws a new hole for a new bolt to hold the latch to the gate. It was just too cold to get it done when we first made a temporary repair.

Good evening!

Gosh, work was frantic today. They had a BAD weekend. I am tired, and it’s only Monday. The good news…….I have overtime for Friday, which, being a Bank Holiday, means I get paid time and a half, yay.

I made a risotto tonight, with left over roast chicken. Yummily oozing with parmesan and uber calories.

Lady Hawke, to a standard bolognaise recipe I will add worcester sauce, a little marmite and some tomato puree…..all added and improvised to get depth of flavour. You know I am a fanatic when it comes to following recipes. This is one of the few where I will happily wing it, and judge by taste.
And yay for having your books home!

MM, have you found it yet???!

It was 80 F (26.667 C) over the weekend. While my mother and I were out running errands today we had ice hitting the windshield of the car. Now we are having a Frost Warning for tonight. Our dogwood trees are glorious. We went to the cemetery to check the grave and the dogwoods were spectacular there and all through town. I wonder how spectacular they will be one they have frost on them. This is the peak of flowering ornamental tree season, the most visually fabulous season in the south. What we don’t get in color in the fall we make up for in the spring with the flowering trees. Fortunately, the fruit trees have already flowered.

My mother went shopping and purchased some clothing that had not been to five funerals. She gave me everything she purchased and ended up wearing to the four funerals last summer and to my father’s funeral two weeks ago. She wanted some clothes unassociated with funerals. She also purchased a new pair of sandals.

I mailed my mother’s taxes so I am finished. Next year I am going to have to let a professional do my mother’s taxes. My father’s pension came as an annuity and not all of it was taxable. The taxable amount was calculated over twenty years and reused every year. Now, my mother will have a different taxable amount since the amount of her portion of his pension is different and I have no idea how to calculate the taxable amount. Once it is done I will be able to carry on in the future.

ASTI, I am glad to hear you can succumb to the need to fiddle with a recipe.

I culled five cardboard packing boxes of books. I had many books that had been passed on to me from my mother and father that were never going to be read. I had kept so many that I had read but really had no chance of reading again. It was silly to let them eat up valuable shelf space which could be used by books I love or books I have yet to read. I still have a
6 ft (1.82 m) shelf double deep in books.

Woke up to snow. It is just covering my picnic table, the fence, my truck, and some of the grass. Thought it was cool until I let the dogs out. It is cold downstairs and now feels warm upstairs. I think I need to put back on long pants, socks, additional shirt. Good thing my furnance is running.

Good evening!

Crazy crazy at work. It must be Easter soon. I shared my sandwich with my friend the robin in the churchyard at lunchtime.

Lady Hawke, I am so pleased that you have your books back. Even though I have LOTS on my Kindle, I’d be climbing the walls if I had to pack away all my books. The house would feel empty, and I would have nothing to look at!
I am sorry you had to have a cull. I have brought back several boxes of books back from my parents removal, treasured from my childhood and my mothers, that I cannot get rid of, but have nowhere to store. They are piled up in my wardrobe, to the detriment of my clothes. My Mother has culled so many, I have to save these, for a while at least.

Graymayne, have you heard from your DS? Is he having a good time? I hope he’s said “hello” to Wales for me!

ASTI. He was back home by 6:30pm. He was photographing the unsuspected remains of an ancient forest which had been buried beneath the sand of the beach. It was revealed after violent storms during the winter. Strangely the photos he took earlier in the year when it was rather overcast were more atmospheric than today’s collection. He brought me three pebbles as a souvenir, all different but all beautifully smoothed and shaped by the sea.

Every time I have made myself a sandwich I kept thinking I needed to cook. Looked in the fridge and there was corn on the cob. So now I have the corn on, white beans, buttered potatoes and corn meal muffins cooking. Everything just got done. Looks and smells good.

I have my hardback books on my book shelves. Instead of paperback books, I have my DVD’s on the book shelf too. They look like books so it still looks like my shelves are full of books. I have so many books on my Kindel Fire that I need to take a few off. I know there is a place to do this but I don’t know what to push. I have done it by accident so I do know it is there. I just can’t find it. That is the bad thing about electronics now. They don’t have a paper instructions. I have looked online but have not found it yet.

CoolG Re putting books back in the cloud on your Kindle Fire – Access your Books section and next to the title Books there are two words, Cloud and Device. Whichever of those words is shown in Orange is showing you which section you are currently being shown. Make sure that Device is shown in Orange and all those books will be those which are currently stored on your Kindle. All you have to do to tuck any book back in the Cloud is to maintain a slight pressure on the book cover until a label appears which offers you two choices, Add to Favourites and Remove from Device. Tap the Remove label and your currently unwanted book will disappear.

I had to look up the instructions to write the above. A Help section can be found by tapping the middle icon at the bottom of your Books page (the one that looks like a mini Venetian blind).

Enjoy your meal, it sounds scrumtious:-)

@ Cool G, On my Kindle Fire when I want to remove a book: First, I just choose it… BUT, don’t just tap the screen… HOLD your finger on it for a bit & a menu will pop up that allows you to remove it from the carousel or delete completely… Hope this helps.

Thanks so much Graymayne and Won. I have copied and printed both directions. I will see which one works.

Just finished washing my dishes. Since I cooked yesterday, I had several pots and pans including lids. I also had several little bowls from empty my fridge. Thank goodness I always make sure every dish or pan is completely free of food when I don’t wash them immediately. You would think I would just wash them with soap and water at the time instead of waiting. I always rinse the food from everything from years of using a dishwasher. Now I am usually too tired to stand and wash the dishes after cooking. I don’t really need a dish washer now anyway since I don’t cook every day.

I love books that can be read as a stand alone but are a contionuation of the story and characters with each book. I usually get the first book free but love it so much that I buy the others. I have been re reading a lot of stories I got from more than a year ago. I remember some of the books but not every thing about it. That is why I need to take books that I won’t want to reread off my Kindel.

Lady Hawke At first I did not know what you were talking about. After spending some time thinking about it, I remembered. This tells me that my memory is getting better it just takes me a little while of concentration for it to come back to me.

IRONSOS, I knew Cherry Jones. She is a local actress who “made good”. In the theatre world is is quite top drawer, quite famous, just not as well known on the screen. I have another local actor who I have seen in and out of theatres here. He has gone on to work in a lot of Tom Hanks movies. You see him all over but no one would ever know his name.

I did not get work today. So, I have been home doing laundry, folding and putting things away. As soon as I eat lunch I’m taking more laundry over to my mother’s house with more laundry.

I’m going to start unpacking some of the glass items into the glass cabinets. Mother had said in a moment of despair that she didn’t care if I ever unpacked them. Then, this morning she asked me to come start unpacking them if I didn’t go to work. She said she has finally noticed it looks sad without the objects in the cabinets. She wants it to look nice when people come in.

I am beyond tired. Work is bonkers.

My parents have been in touch!!! Their phone has finally been connected, though they are still without internet. They are finally finally all moved in. The old house is gone for good. My DS and I are hopefully going over with a toolcase next weekend. I think they will be VERY relieved to see us. They have been a long time now with no contact and no support, despite all my sister and I did.
