Aloha! ;)

Much better today. ;)

It will be warm and sunny and it’s friday and my DS gets paid today. Of course that means I will be depressed later as I pay bills, so I had better enjoy what I can until then. ;)

Okay…I guess I can’t stay away either. :(

This is our home and it just doesn’t feel right not coming here. :(

I find myself coming here each time. :(

This is home, it looks lonely but it is still home. :(

Morning all!

I’m at work right now but thought I would stop in to say hello. Last night I got together with some people from my HP meet-up group to go bowling. I hadn’t been in years; it was so much fun. It’s nice to have friends who also enjoy embracing their geekiness! :)

I’m technically on Spring Break this coming week, but I have so much due the week after that I’m not even thinking of it as a break. I’ll pick up some extra hours at work, and maybe try to squeeze in a couple of extra “fun” things, but mostly I’ll still be plugging away at my assignments. In good news, I got a letter this week letting me know I’ve been awarded another scholarship! It was based on “academic merit” so it gives me an extra boost of motivation to keep working hard.

Okay, back to work; talk to you all soon!

What is up with this weather??

Afternoon all! Just got back from a productive meeting with my partner for an assignment, and I’m going to celebrate by taking a nap. ;) We’re having beautiful weather right now, but I’m just too tired to go do anything outdoorsy at the moment. (My goodness, MM, I sure hope we’re not in for snow after our 70 degree days! Here I’ve been rejoicing that spring has arrived; I think I’d cry if it snowed now!)

Oooh, is it your first time reading HaH, Josie? Enjoy! I cry every time I read it because it brings back so many wonderful memories (and also, at some parts, makes me sad I joined the fandom so late – just after HBP came out – because I feel like I missed out on so many other great memories).

helloooooooooo Leaky!

MM yeah, that is wacky weather!!!!!! I hope it’ll melt soon since I imagine the ground has warmed up…!!

Jen I wouldn’t mind returning here either. I haven’t had a big problem with the smilies loading, but it’s easier to type here. I usually don’t use the “Postreply” option on the other site but then I only have a few of the codes memorized, and I get the codes for bold right less than half the time… but I like bolding the names, so then I choose Postreply and then I wait. :S Tho the smilies are cute… well at least most of them ;)

Yay for bowling! I like it a lot, but for some reason I haven’t been in a while. I did try wii bowling and it took me a while to get used to it, but it was fun. Nothing like real bowling tho. ;) The HP group sounds fun…

I hope you do get to take a bit of a spring break, but that makes sense to keep working here and there. ;) And yay for a good meeting today!

Josie you’ve inspired me… sorry Jen I still haven’t read HaH. I really should though… hmmmmmm…

I’ll be lurking… :)

Congratulations on the scholarship, Jen. That is great. They give you that extra needed boost to keep yourself on track. Not only do you want the good grades for themselves, you want to keep the money.

Thanks, Huff and LH! I’m especially excited about this scholarship because it now means I am 100% definite for LeakyCon2011! I’ve been figuring I would probably be able to swing it, but this scholarship gave me the cushion I needed to comfortably set aside the LeakyCon money. If I get the GA position, I’ll be in even better shape, so I’ve got my fingers crossed!

Huff, wii bowling had been the extent of my experience in quite a while…and although it’s not the same as real bowling, I do think it helped me last night – it helped remind me to keep my wrist straight when releasing the ball. :)

I didn’t end up taking a nap this afternoon, though I did lounge around. I can’t even believe it, but I think I’m getting sick again. I thought I was at the tail-end of the cold I had last weekend. I seemed to be at that lingering, annoying cough stage, and now all of a sudden, today I feel like I’m back at the beginning, with a runny nose and tickley, itchy, sore throat. I’m hoping it’s just that I’m run down from being out late last night and that a good night’s sleep with take care of it. I’m going to be very annoyed if I’m actually starting a new cold! :|

I’m going to go try to pop in at the other site before I head to bed. Talk to you soon…

Jen, congratulations on getting the scholarship, especially for getting it on academic merit! That must be a huge confidence boost. It sounds like you are still really enjoying school, though I’m sorry you’re not able to get much of a break. How’s it going with the cooking at home? I am worried that your tendancy to catch colds may be from not eating properly? Do you get lots of Vitamin C? Sorry if I’m interfering!

We went bowling a couple of weeks ago. It’s only the second time I’ve ever been, and I astonished my son by winning! Both the kids love playing bowling on the Wii. We’ve got the one with 100 pin bowling. It’s funny to watch!!

The new site doesn’t seem slow for me at all…… or not usually. But I am going to make more of an effort to come here regularly too.

Thanks, MM, Adella, Deanie, and asti!

asti, you’re not interfering; thanks for being concerned! :) I still don’t cook at home, and I am sure I don’t eat as well as I should…but I’m not eating any worse than I have done in the past, and this year has definitely been the worst for colds. I’m thinking part of it is probably my nephews – now that two of them are in preschool, they’re constantly catching stuff, and so, it seems, I am! My sisters have been catching stuff fairly often too, so that’s why I’m thinking this is playing a big part; we just seem to keep passing it through the family! And as much as I love whining when I’m sick, I’ll take a cold over the stomach bugs any day, so I really shouldn’t complain too much! ;)

Jen, we had a cold that did that towards the end of last year………..we passed it around and around for months! Try and make sure you snack on lots of fruit. Do you still babysit a lot?

Posted by asti on March 21, 2010, 03:21 PM report to moderator

I don’t babysit as much as I used to, because my youngest sister was finally able to switch her hours to mostly days, while my nephew’s in school. But she’s also taking classes on Tues & Thurs nights. My dad works every other day, so one week he’s off Tues/Thurs, and the next week he works them, so we take turns by week on the babysitting. And if she gets scheduled on a weekend when my nephew’s not with his father, I sometimes cover that. With my other sister, it’s usually just every other week or so, when she and her husband just need to get out of the house for a few hours. :)

Jen That’s a pretty good schedule. You still get time with your nephews and your father gets time with his grandchildren, but neither of you are expected to be there full time. ;)

The good news is that we are getting a new roof, courtesy of the insurance company. The bad news is that they will probably either drop us or increase our premiums outrageously. ;)

Jen, you seem so close to your Dad and sisters. That sounds like a good balance; you still get to spend time with your nephews, but have enough time to study. I imagine that is not easy while watching toddlers! And they’re so much fun at that age, arn’t they! Your sisters are lucky to have you. I know how difficult it is to be a Mum with a job outside the home. I know I couldn’t manage without my MIL, as much as she drives me up the wall!

Deanie, I’m sorry to hear you have roof problems too. Our insurance company wouldn’t pay out for ours :(

accio.adventure, I’ve got my fingers crossed for you! Have a good trip.

Hi, Won, how are you getting on?

Hi Asti… I am getting stronger every day… The exhausting Physiotherapy has kicked my tail over the past week, and is the main reason I have not been visiting & posting online… The good news is that in another 2 weeks I will be totally weaned off the pain meds, and will be able to start flying again! I have missed flying terribly. I am glad to read that your son has been given a ‘good bill’ by his doctors, and is doing so well in school.

Mistic Willow I will hope that it is a warm, gentle rain. That would be better than cold, driving rain with the possibility of “wintry mix”. ;)

Aloha! ;)

I’m hanging in here and I do have some things that need doing. ;)

Bbl. ;)

Asti, we have gotten closer over the last few years – it’s mostly been since my sisters started having kids; we didn’t get along at all growing up! And while I always got along pretty well with my dad, it was after my parents got divorced and my mom moved up to Maine that we really got closer; we do a lot of stuff, like movies, restaurants, etc. together, rather than having to go alone all the time. :)

Hi Won! Good to hear you’re steadily improving. Two weeks should go by quickly; it’ll be great when you can get back up in the air. :)

Your rain must have headed up to me, Mistic – it’s pretty miserable out right now. But the temp isn’t too bad, so as Deanie said, it’s better than a cold, wintry mix!

I’m stuck at home for the rest of the day anyway, because I just found out that I have pink eye. :(

Je Be sure to wipe down your keyboard and all surfaces of electronics with alcohol or a mix of half and half water and alcohol. Use a dilute chlorine bleach mixture for all hard surfaces. Pinkeye is usually a staph infection and you do not want to reinfect yourself or infect others.

Sprays like Lysol only work on hard surfaces and only if you allow it to dry there and do not wipe it dry.

Be sure to launder all fabrics you come into contact with, including kitchen towels and sheets and pilowcases. Wash your sponges and try to put them in direct sun outside to dry so the UV rays can help sterilize them. If you wipe your eye area with tissues, be sure to take them out of the house every day. The bacteria can live on them for up to a week, more in a closed container. ;)

Pink eye is very contageous, try not to come into contact with your dad or any children until it clears up, not just until it feels better.

I know, all of that sounds alarmist, but some strains of staph are resistant to antibacterial agents like soaps and kitchen wipes.

My mother had to get 2 IVs of a very strong antibiotic every day for almost a year because she got one of the resistant strains of staph. She was stuck living with my sister and her family because of it. Each IV treatment took a couple of hours and all she could do during them was lie on the bed or try to sleep. ;)

Take care of yourself. ;)

Good evening!

Won, wow, that is a swift recovery, after all the time you’ve had to wait. I can imagine how much you’re looking forward to it being all over. Where will you go on your celebratory first flight? And thankyou about my son!

Mistic, do you have any news on your house?

Jen, that sounds very like my sister and I. We wern’t close at all while we were growing up, but get on really well now. There is an age difference of 5 1/2 years between us, so I don’t think that helped. But, having said that, there are 6 1/2 years between my two children, and they get on very well. My son is so good with his little sister.

Pinkeye is conjunctivitis, yes?? Isn’t it odd….. you seem to treat it far more seriously in the US than we do here. Unless it was a very bad case, we would just carry on as usual, just being a bit more aware of washing hands etc. I hope it doen’t last long for you, Jen.

Deanie, that’s a horrendous story. Your poor Mother. That must have been an awful infection. Did she recover fully after all the treatment?

hellooooooooo Leaky!

accio.adventure I hope they open in time and that you will have a great trip, whether or not HPpark is open!!

Jen bummer about the pinkeye… I hope it gets better soon! And that the cold didn’t develop into something bigger…

asti yeah, pinkeye is big news here… I think if a child gets it, some (most?) school districts require a certain # of days away from school with proof that the eye (I mean, child) is being treated for it.

Hope the weather is improving for you, Jen and Mistic and Won! It’s a bit chilly but with blueeeeeeee skies here, yeah! :) :)

Won here’s hoping that your recovery will be smoooooooooth flying! :) No turbulence! :)

Wow, Deanie, that’s awful! Thanks for the warnings; they’re definitely more serious than what the doctor told me…perhaps she could tell mine is not a resistant strain? She just told me to wash my hands often, and to avoid contact with people until I’ve been on the eye drops for 24 hours (I’m pretty sure 24 hrs on medication is the standard for schools, too). It sounds like she’s taking the UK approach! ;) I have been cautious about wiping down surface I come in contact with, but I was doing that anyway because of the cold. So hopefully I’ll be okay.

Enjoy the blue skies, Huff! It’s supposed to clear up here by tomorrow, so I’m hopeful. :)

I’m off to take a homework break to watch American Idol. I have my DVR taping it, so I wait until about a half hour in, and then I can start watching from the beginning, even as it’s taping – that way, I can fast forward through commercials, and still finish around the normal end time. ;)
