PotterCast episode 235 brings you a new segment this week – we are calling it ‘Harry Potter Today’ – which focuses on fan contributions, creations, and the things that matter to a Harry Potter fan today. This week we talked about the fan parody of popular Ke$ha song ‘We R who we R’ by The Remus Lupin’s Alex Carpenter with his ‘We R Lightning Scars’, as well as Youtube viral videos for ‘Pureblood Dating’ featuring ‘Voldemort.’

This week also includes more of your Canon Conclumdrums from prompts we’ve received from emails to Staff@PotterCast.com and tweets @PotterCast.

Enjoy!

22 Bits of Feedback for “PotterCast 235: Harry Potter Today”

  1. ladrilho Says:

    Hi,

I’m using this link to subscribe to the podcast:

    http://www.the-leaky-cauldron.org/podcasts/pottercast.rss

But I don’t get the image in my podcast application.

Can you please check if there’s a problem with the image file: http://www.the-leaky-cauldron.org/podcasts/pottercastart300.jpg

    Thank you.

    Love the podcast.

  2. Niamh Says:

This is a Canon Conundrum; do you think Elphias Doge was Dumbledore’s gay partner because they were planning to travel the world together and everything?

  3. Carolyn Says:

I LOVE Pottercast! I’ve read the series 7 times and I’ve finially found people who understand how good the books are. I look forward to new episodes every week and I will continue to listen :)

  4. John Says:

    Thanks, ladrilho! We fixed it!

  5. Lauren Says:

Some thoughts about Hagrid’s wand: I think Dumbledore repaired it with the Elder Wand because he probably needed Hagrid to perform all manner of magical tasks in his job. We already know the Elder Wand is capable of repairing a completely snapped wand because Harry was able to repair his wand with the Elder Wand. This also helps to explain Hagrid’s devotion to Dumbledore (other than Dumbledore’s obvious greatness, of course), because Dumbledore literally gave him back his ability to do magic.

Just my 2 cents. Love the podcast, keep up the great work guys!

  6. ladrilho Says:

Thank you for your quick answer.

Keep up the great work. :)

  7. Kirsty Says:

About “Harry Potter Today” — a lot of 14-15 year olds joined in the fandom a little late (in my case, just before book 7 came out) and want to have the experiences they missed out on. I’m a new listener and I’m so glad to have a new podcast to look forward to!

  8. Skye Says:

    I’m a new listener! :)

  9. Eszti Says:

Nah,none buys the “soon we’ll stop podcasting” thing anymore. So you what that means, you’ll never be able to actually stop the show, people would never believe it :P

  10. Tucker Conley Says:

I believe that they will stop podcasting this summer.. cause after the seventh movie comes out, there really will be nothing to talk about. I mean maybe the podcast will be shorter where they just give us quick updates on whats going on in Harry Potter, they could always do that..

  11. Spenser Says:

In the case of Hagrid’s wand I agree with Lauren, if Dumbledore had the Elder wand at the time of Hagrid’s expulsion then the Elder wand could have repaired Hagrid’s wand halfs. But since Hagrid can’t walk around with a wand, they hid it in the umbrella.
But my Canon Conundrumn is this, Do you think that a longer wand chooses some one tall and vice versa with a shorter person getting a shorter wand?
If not what is the factor of wand length?

  12. Natalie Says:

This is a question for Frak. I was just wondering if you ever post you Harry Potter fan art on leaky. I really wanna see you work:]

  13. Paula Says:

My thoughts on the “wand” conclumdrums -
Hagrid’s wand was broken by a Ministry Witch/Wizard I assume, basically just snapped in half…. Harry’s was broken by the spell Hermione cast…perhaps that’s why Hagrid’s could be “fixed”…..the damage to Hagrid’s wand was just the physical act of breaking it in two, and Harry’s damaged by the spell??? Love you guys!

  14. Rachel Says:

I’d like to contribute info for the Harry Potter Today segment. I can’t find an email address where to send it to you guys. Are we just supposed to leave everything here in comments?

  15. Paula Says:

    This is for Rachel,
You can send info to staff@pottercast.com

  16. Jeff Says:

Here is a possible Canon Conclumdrum. I know the Room of Requirement was an important part of the overall story, but wouldn’t it have been possible for the DA to have met in the Chamber of Secrets? They definitely would not have been caught there since only Harry could open it.

  17. Elizabeth Says:

@Jeff: That would have been awesome! That would have been a good gathering place for the Order of the Phoenix to regroup during the Final Battle.
Well, hopefully Voldemort doesn’t find out because he could get in their easily, too.

  18. Sarah Says:

@Niamh, I don’t think Dumbledore ever had a partner – if I’m remembering correctly, Grindelwald was the only one Dumbledore was ever in love with, and after that (and before, I guess) he didn’t love anyone. I think that’s what JKR said.

By the way, I know the episodes don’t come out weekly anymore, but is there a set schedule for releases? Like every month, or something? or is it just when Melissa, John, and Frak have time to record?

  19. Ali Says:

Here is a possible Canon Conclumdrum. I have always wondered, why Narcissa knew that Harry was alive in the Forest! Recentky this has been confusing me and I was wondering your thoughts on just how she could know that Harry would answer her question. Keep podcasting!

  20. Jess Says:

I am a new listener (although I’m not sure why I haven’t discovered PotterCast until now. I’ve been a huge fan since 1998). I plan to catch up on your podcast backlog over the next couple of months and then I will probably re-listen in the Potter-less days following July 15th (sob).

  21. Amy Says:

Hey guys, new listener. Great podcast! As to the naming of Albus Severus…the oldest son is named after his grandfather James and maybe has the middle name Arthur (unless one of the other Weasley kids named a son Arthur). As much as he respected both Dumbledore and Snape, Harry was bound to want to honor his family first!

  22. Sussan Says:

Im a new listener.. but since i’ve started i’ve listened to a bunch of them. LOVE THEM!
