Owl Post: Bringing you the best in Harry Potter
The Official Newsletter of LeakyNews.com! |
The Telegraph is reporting that author J. K. Rowling described the completion of the final chapter of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows as "the most remarkable feeling" in the upcoming interview on BBC1's Jonathan Ross program. During the taping, which took place on this Thursday, Jo went on to say this when asked about writing that momentous final chapter after almost 20 years with the series:
"Finishing the book is a relief. I can't think of anyone who could know how I felt. Actually finishing it was the most remarkable feeling I've ever had... [I felt] euphoria, devastated, when I finished one chapter near the end I absolutely howled, it had been planned for so long.
"I was in a hotel room on my own, sobbing my heart out. I downed half a bottle of champagne in one and went home with mascara all over my face. It was really tough."
A BBC article features two more quotes from the author, the first, when discussing the fact that the filmmakers adapting Harry Potter for the screen have kept the cast entirely British, called it a "hell of an achievement." Jo also gave another tidbit of information regarding the last word written in the final Harry Potter book. The common thought among fans for the past number of years was the series' text end with the word 'scar.' Jo reveals it has, in fact, that been changed:
"Scar? It was so for ages, and now it's not. Scar is quite near the end, but it's not the last word."
During the interview Jo discusses the past seventeen years she has spent with the boy wizard, ten of which as a published author, whether any characters were based on people she knew in real life, her first reaction to her series being turned into a film and the recently announced Harry Potter theme park coming to Florida in 2010. She also speaks a little about her Comic Relief charity books as well as, very cautiously, about Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.
We now have the complete interview available to view in our Video Galleries.
Readers should note, the interview does contain moments of adult language and themes that may not be suitable for younger readers.
The first of many images and reports from the Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix film premiere in London today are beginning to come online. TLC was in attendance at the premiere and will have our full report and pictures from the event online shortly. In the meantime, Reuters has one of the first articles online from the red carpet which includes reactions from a few of the thousands of fans who attended the premiere and features a number of quotes from the actors. Fans were "super excited" to see the actors arrivals, Emma Watson (Hermione Granger) said of the fans reaction:
"Every time I come to a premier. I see more and more fans. It gets bigger and bigger," she said, while adding of her character: "She's kind of changing, becoming more of a rebel. but it's kind of fun to play."
Dan Radcliffe (Harry Potter) also discussed the film saying, in part:
"Toward the end of the film... there's not many laughs to be had," he admitted, while insisting that there were some lighter moments. "While there's not actually direct comedy, there's some really heartfelt emotion. "There's goodness in it," he said.
Many actors from the film attended the event. They included: Dan Radcliffe, Emma Watson, Rupert Grint, Katie Leung, Helena Bonham Carter, Robbie Coltrane, Bonnie Wright, Evanna Lynch, Matthew Lewis, Imelda Staunton, Harry Melling and J. K. Rowling. Pictures can be seen via Getty and WireImage. We have now created a OotP London Premiere Photo Album in our Image Galleries which will be continually updated as new pictures come in. Getty Images also has pictures of the after party which can be seen here.
In addition, the BBC has a gallery of pictures online from the event that showcases the actors, fans and Death Eaters! BBC News has published a further article on the premiere that includes a few new quotes from J. K. Rowling as well as a short video interview with Dan Radcliffe on the red carpet. The Daily Mail also has a write up of the arrivals along with a few photos of Dan Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint arriving (in the rain) at the premiere.
Channel Five in the UK also has the a video report from the event, which shows the fans along the red carpet and even features a brief appearance by our own Melissa Anelli and Sue Upton. You can view the short video report here in our video galleries.
A third BBC report is in our video galleries thanks to roonwit. A reporter for the Entertainment 24 program spoke with author J. K. Rowling, Emma Watson (Hermione Granger), Robbie Coltrane (Hagrid), Richard Griffiths (Uncle Vernon) and Dan Radcliffe (Harry Potter) on the red (green) carpet.
Be sure to check back to Leaky for our own reports and photos live from the event!

What's HOT in the Leaky Lounge
This past Saturday, our own Leaky Lounge hosted the trial of the century. Severus Snape as put on trial for the murder of Albus Dumbledore and Loungers were able to observe as the prosecution made their case, the defense questioned, witnesses were called, Rita Skeeter reported and ended when the observers got to vote on it all. The final outcome was that Snape did indeed murder the Headmaster of Hogwarts with the Avada Kedavra curse. He was sentenced to a life sentence in Azkaban prison, with the possibility of parole. To experience this entire trial for yourself and read the Corner Booth transcript of the event, visit the Special Event Archive on the Lounge.

Jonathan Ross Interviews J. K. Rowling
Reader E-mails
Dear Leaky Cauldron,
In the first movie Hagrid defines "Muggles" as non-magic folk, and refers to Harry's mum as a witch, yet in the fourth movie, Voldemort calls Harry's mother a Muggle. What gives?
A Devoted Reader
Dear Devoted Reader,
Voldemort is a bigot; Hagrid is not.
Lily was born to non-magical parents. As far as Hagrid is concerned, this doesn't matter - she was a witch. Voldemort believes, however, that unless you're "pure of blood" ( i.e. have wizarding parents, with ancestry that can be traced back in the wizarding world), you're a Muggle, regardless of your abilities.
It also might be noted that Voldemort is a complete Jackass.
