Owl Post: Bringing you the best in Harry Potter
The Official Newsletter of LeakyNews.com! |
News came early this week that in addition to J. K. Rowling's scheduled Open Book Tour Stateside this October, fans now have another chance to see our favorite author as Jo will be appearing in Toronto, Canada on October 23. The Globe and Mail reports that Jo will be appearing "at the Wintergarden Theatre in downtown Toronto. It’s an all-ages event hosted by Toronto’s International Festival of Authors and Rowling’s Canadian publisher, Vancouver-based Raincoast Books. Ms. Rowling will read from Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, entertain questions from fans and autograph complimentary copies of "Deathly Hallows." This venue has 950 seats, and pairs of tickets will be awarded each day to fans on-line. To enter the contest, which was launched September 17th, fans are asked to go to www.raincoast.com/harrypotter/ where an entry form and rules are posted. From these submissions, 10 pairs of tickets will be chosen at random daily. You may enter this contest by clicking here.
In addition to this news, Raincoast let us know they have now updated their blog with more on this event, including this following quote:
"J.K. Rowling has always given priority to her fans," said Allan MacDougall, CEO of Raincoast Books, "and we and the IFOA have tried to plan an event that reflects her values. The Winter Garden event will be intimate, interactive and something that her Canadian fans will never forget. We are thrilled to have her in Canada again."
In an exclusive interview with our friend Garth Franklin of Dark Horizons, actor Jim Broadbent confirms that he has been cast in the role of new Potions Master Horace Slughorn for the upcoming “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” film.
The actor, who says he has read the Harry Potter books, confirms he will play the pivotal character in the sixth Harry Potter film which is in rehearsals this week and is set to begin filming shortly. Jim Broadbent, best known for his roles in "Moulin Rouge," the "Bridget Jones" films, and for his Academy Award winning role in "Iris" says the following:
Question: Who are you?
Broadbent: Who am I? He’s called Horace Slughorn. He’s a retired teacher of magic who’s drawn back out of retirement because he’s got some secrets they need in the battle against the Deatheaters and he’s quite star struck as a teacher and he’s drawn back into the fold because he likes to notch up celebrity students, and he’s drawn back by Harry.
Question: Is he a comic character?
Broadbent: He is quite a comic character, yes. I haven’t started yet. I’ve had endless costume fittings and makeup and...
Question: What kind of costumes?
Broadbent: Tweedy sort of things with a bit of padding. He’s an older man, I’m aging up again.
You can see some additional photos of the actor here in our galleries. "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" is due for release November 21, 2008.

Dear Leaky Cauldron,
Which cover art do you like the best - the British or the American editions?
A Devoted Reader
Dear Devoted Reader,
I'm a particular fan of Mary Grand Pre, who illustrates the American editions, but were you aware there are many other covers world-wide? Have a look at our Leaky Galleries to see them - the German editions are particularly interesting!
