Thanks to everyone who emailed today regarding the news of a clever real world Muggle marketing and advertising campaign that will echo the moving photos seen in the Daily Prophet. The BBC reports that on September 18, readers in LA and New York who purchase a copy of Entertainment Weekly will see their issue contain special video -in-print ads. These will be "slim-line screens - around the size of a mobile phone display," and have a "chip technology used to store the video - described as similar to that
used in singing greeting cards - [which] is activated when the page is turned." The Telegraph also reports that these 90 second video ads will "show clips from future CBS programmes and an advert for a
diet cola."
Lmao!! This is hilarious! I can’t believe HP is having this kind of affect on modern technology. I wonder what scientists are going to try to do next…portkeys? I love it!
I wish I could get this issue, but I don’t live in NYC or LA. :(
so many stuff from the Wizarding World are becoming a possibility in the Muggle World. There’s the invisibility cloak, Weasley’s clock, and this one.. I hope we’ll be able to make Quidditch possible soon—like in my lifetime!!
Apparently the screens are 2.7mm thick… that could make for some large Entertainment Weeklys! My favorite part though is that they have rechargeable batteries, so you can watch your pepsi ads again and again! XD
I wonder how much per unit this thing will actually cost. I see huge markets right now in Greeting Cards. I could also imagine books with moving images, using a small replaceable battery. Such books would be more than entertainment. Think of the educational possibilities of a text that SHOWS a process, whether the process is a video or a moving drawing or the steps for solving an equation . . .
Wow … this is so cool. HP is gradually influencing everything. Who knows, maybe ten years from now all newspapers and magazines will have moving pictures. Like, right now the pic is going to be kind of thick so it would not be practical to fill a newspaper or it would be huge. But, when you think how big cellphones were even a few years ago and how small they are now, it’s plenty possible that moving pics can be slimmed down, too.
